Winter Holiday 2010 Contest Support Thread

About 14 more swept for me. Still no change in score *laugh*

I'm probably going to go lazy for the next few days and not update the views/comments/favorites in the track. They're not relevant to the rank, and all of them are slowing down a lot anyway. I'll go back to updating them near the end of the voting period.

I had one swept...but no real change...I might have gone up one little point but not sure.

Poor scouries, nobody cares about his fake contest.

If I've had a sweep it was a small one. not much change in votes at all.

Small sweep? I got hit for another 80 votes - down about .02 in score. Not sure why this story is getting hit so hard. Only up for about 4-5 days and I've crossed the 1000 vote mark twice, just to get knocked back. Weird.

Still a very low number of reads compared to most of my stories. It's pretty easy to see what my normal readers like - and it doesn't appear to be romance ;)

All three of my stories got swept again. Keep losing count on how many swept votes. Really doesn't make much different. All three scores are stay about the same.

Getting some good comments on my old stories. I received eight, just today. That's one of the things I like about contests. My older stories get more reads.

Eeeh.. First one is hanging tough at 4.51...
Second one got spanked. It's now down to 4.47...

The hoover didn't tickle, it just sucked. :p lol.

eta: p.s. 'Through..' now has 10,080 views. whoop! lmao..

Up to a total of 492 swept votes observed.

Assuming that I'm seeing the first sweep and not the one that went through last night/today, what I see on Tx's is off by about 21 (10.5%) from what he reported, and mine's off by 4 (22.2%)

Average that out to about 15% swept votes not showing up in the toplists, and we're probably in the neighborhood of 560 actual swept votes total across all contest entries.

I'm sure somebody will come along with a complex mathmatical formula telling me how I'm wrong *laugh*

So long as no new stories post to the contest tomorrow ( it does happen sometimes ) I'm going to change the way I allocate rank on the track tomorrow.

Stories that don't have enough votes to qualify will be moved to the bottom of the list, sorted by score. Stories that are ineligible ( only Tx's from what I can determine, barring unknown alts ) will also be moved to the bottom of the list and sorted by score.

I'm also going to override the default spreadsheet sort to have stories of the same score ranked according to vote totals.

That should put the ranks in line with what will determine the actual winners.

The average and median scores are up by .01, but that could be just as much the new stories going into the calculation as any result of the sweeps. Once all entries have data and no new ones arrive, the change in median and average will have more meaning.

As to me, the contest story is doing far better than expected, and I'm getting lots of reads/votes on older stories. That's all I hope for when I put a story in the contest ( besides getting enough votes to qualify ) so I'm well above goal :D

Mine isn't getting any worse, I really just need to find a way to make my stories taboo and controversial, but the only taboo I can play with is age and thats not allowed...hmm I suppose I could find some kind of a way...legally...

There's plenty of taboo to play with. Power mechanics ( boss, teacher, cop ) Age is still available ( 18 yr old with a cougar ) Non-blood related relatives ( step-brothers, step-mothers, sister-in-law, father-in-law )

Plenty of legal options that are on the edge, and don't have the high-end squick factor of full-blown incest, thus attracting a larger potential response ( and probably easier to write without your skin crawling the whole time *laugh* )

There are examples of at least a couple of those in this contest, and the numbers show increased reads, votes, comments -- the works.

Score... not so much ;) Still, there are a few doing well, even if they're outside the winner's circle by quite a ways.

Hmm I suppose I'll work on it for next contest...hey would I get in trouble if I basically made a story about a guy who has been in love with a girl since she was a child and spends years like sending her gifts and stuff and then finally approaches her on her 18th birthday...I'm not sure what the overall story would be because it would have to be of her birthday and stuff....

I've gotten a few like that passed through without question. One was much able a couple of years of anticipation before all was unleashed on an 18th birthday.

So long as there's nothing remotely sexual in those build-up years, you're okay. Even something as simple as him noticing her developing and homing in on any one detail of that could be enough to get it bounced. The line there is very fine. Detail is the kicker. Generalities can often get by, but once you zero in on something undeniably sexual -- even a sexual thought for a single line -- you could be in the danger zone.

Ah, no, I've gotten away with pretty detailed physical descriptions (in the perspective of the characters) and pretty suggestive and meaningful looks and setting a date for action. No physical touching, though.

(It wasn't written in any sense of "where's the edge" and "getting away" with anything. It was the story. If Lit. had rejected, I would have simply submitted it elsewhere.)

You know how hit and miss that is, though. I was working with a first-timer who had one bounced for the 18+ rule on a single mention of the word "breasts" in the character thinking about when he was sixteen. Re-submitted as-is and it got bounced again. Only posted after that offending line was removed.

Yeah, but I'd just write the story and submit it and then work from there. Precisely because it's so hit and miss.

Have lost around 200 votes on the three stories combined. I don't believe it really6 changed the score ave. maybe .01 if any. I still have a lot of votes for them to take away. LOL

Only a few days left.
Good luck All

Eh i guess I'll just have to figure out what to do...anyone bored enough to read a very short half finished essay on sexuality and age? How society says sixteen is to young yet the body and mind are both developed to think sexually and the brain is hardwired to view younger females as more attractive? I have no idea why i wrote it and I know no one wants to read it...but i hate writing stuff for no reason LOL

I just realized my essay is confusing me...See writing about the male brain from a female perspective didn't sound right...so i wrote from a male perspective ...and now i can't include personal bits from the fact that I was once a young girl and i knew what my mind wanted. Maybe i should do a male perspective and female perspective...but yeah i'll shut up...i don't know why i'm rambling...

More important, I think, is where do you plan to publish it? It doesn't sound like something Literotica would accept. It's advocating something they don't permit here. In this case, I doubt whether it matters if there's explicit sex in it or not.

Congratulations Authors

Just wanted to congratulate all the writers in the Holiday contest, I've made a point of reading all the entries and I really enjoyed them, especially those by Luna, Mugsy, Wicked and Emerald. I wish everybody the best of luck this weekend with votes! I wish I had the courage to submit a story of my own to one of the contests but I don'[t think I could handle all the criticiscm you all put up with - I admire you all so much for being able to deal with the good and the bad, especially around the holidays when things are so hectic.

I did have a question that I was hoping the more experienced among you might be able to answer. Since I make a point of reading all the contest entries, I see the same names fairly regularly come up submitting to the contests. If you win are you able to continue entering? I'm just curious, because some of you have become "staples" to the contests (at least in my opinion!) and if you won and couldn't enter... Well, sometimes I wonder if some of the scores you receive are deliberately light just to keep you around...

Good luck again to everybody and a very Merry Holiday to all!!

I've lost another 10 over the course of the day. As best I can determine, I'm up to 44 votes swept ( could be more, because I'm still getting new votes -- albeit at a slow pace )

We'll see how the percentages of observed sweeps on the toplists and reported sweeps on the thread works out when I run the track tonight.

Nothing stops you from entering ( except a rejection slip, which has nothing to do with the contest )

If you've won a themed contest within the last six months, you're simply not eligible to win, no matter how high your score. For instance, TxTallTales is ineligible this time out ( good for the contestants, because his score is through the roof *laugh* ) because he placed during the Halloween contest. Back in Summer Lovin', I entered multiple stories, but none of them were eligible because I'd won the Earth Day contest.

This is the first one I've been eligible for since then, and I'm nowhere close. Not even in the top 10.

Pardon my ignorance but what does "getting swept" mean? I've noticed vote totals dropping too but don't know why.
