Winter Holiday Contest - the support thread

Two up.

Both entries are now posted - see my sig line.

Both have received some encouraging public and private feedback for which my thanks.

Both are heading for last place on the ratings. No overt sex = low votes. What do they expect from 'Mature'? We're worth waiting for when we're old and experienced but we're not into fucking like rabbits (Not all night, anyway.)

I'm reading yours now Ogg, I just read Art's and I had to give him a 5. After all I got a pecker shaped mouse for Christmas. :D

5 bombs are acceptable. They don't have as much effect as a 1 bomb but I appreciate them.

The next story is the fourth in my Brigit series. 1071 words so far and I've barely started. Those words are counting towards NaNoWriMo so are not wasted. The provisional title is 'Brigit arranges Christmas'.

As Brigit is a pagan earth goddess I've had to make her explain her interest in Christmas before I can get to even the first sexual interlude.

;)

I cinco-bombed him, too -- since I got a BMW!

Hope ya don't mind the 5 bombs

"Waded" Was the shit that deep? (Nope - don't mind 5 bombs a bit. Hit some of my other stories with 'em too, why don't ya?)

Off to do a little readin' myself ...

"All alone is Rumple, his submission hasn't got a tumble (at least not yet). All alone, with no contest entry of his own. "
--I'm told there's some sub-clause proviso in the Geneva Convention that requires me to stop with the semi-lyrics or be hauled up on charges of crimes against humanity--

It's an odious omission that makes a fellow feel like a pair of brown shoes in a world of tuxedos. Worse than that, it means I've got to do some actual writing-related work instead of hanging around swapping BS about views and votes.

Woe is me.

DP79,

The different ways folks vote comes up ever so often. On account as how you're relatively new (or an old-hand hiding behind a new name) I'll share how I vote.

When I vote, there are no ones or two's. If a story is that bad, I'll have stopped reading long before the end.

For me, (and I've got a hunch for a lot of other voters) four is average, five above average, and three below average. I'd guess well over half the stories I've read by AH writers "earned" a five. There may be some unconscious favoritism because I know them. But most of the writers here are fairly serious about their work and it's reflected in their stories.

Of course, some of us are serious about our writing, but our work only reflects the reality that we need to be much more serious. :)

Hooray for me!

My contest entry, Seasonal Seduction, has been posted. And while I want everyone to rush right over and read it while going ooh and ah at its literary brilliance, not to mention erotic appeal, and then cast at least one FIVE vote, maybe it's just as well if they don't. With my luck, most of the votes would be one-bombs and the responses would resemble the following, the very first piece of feedback my epic received this evening.

Very nice tale - characters good and well paced story...you'll get better with each new one I think.
You gotta love anon feedback.

With that sort of unqualified, ringing endorsement, and opening figures of 43 votes, 714 views, and a score of 4.35, I've not only apparently qualified, but have the bottom of the barrel clearly in my sights.

Too true. My random splattering of Hs and some of my stories rated well below 4.00 (or whisper it softly even below 3.00) shows that I don't give enough attention to what the readers want. Sometimes I write for a very limited audience and deservedly get slated for it. What may be erotic for some can be a real turn-off for others.

Don't crow about heading for last place yet. Despite complimentary PCs my 'Dinner with Friends' is now rated 3.91 with 65 votes and 14,913 views. And I still have at least one more story to finish.

Og,

You need to check in with a Lit newcomer going by the handle, JohnMorrison. He started the "Running out of body parts" thread. According to old John, he has a "work-in-progress" story that's gone past 100,000 words (and still climbing) that he may submit to Lit someday. I told him you two must be soul mates.

Indeed I am new to this site. I'm not new to writing however. I used to make my living as a reasonably competent tech writer (who always relied on a spell checker) but this is much more fun when discussing inserting Part A into Part B. I've published alot, but probably more copies than readers of my past work.

I think you hit it right on the head about the voting. People are voting to abunch of different standards.

Some are voting based on literary merit regardless of the content of the story. Others are voting on the "wank factor" and the writing doesn't matter in the slightest.

In both groups the numbers mean different things, from you only get a 5 if it's the first perfect work ever to ya really gotta impress me to get a 2.

We ain't even talkin here about 1 bombs.

The scores essentually have no meaning. Only the comments matter.

Only two possibilities are possible.

A. The voting standard is defined for all voters and us.

B. We forget about the votes and live for the comments.

You can't controll the voters so I guess I'll learn to live and die on the comments.

woohooo the support thread...

Is that like a long pair of legs in stockings
with a strand hanging from them?
<grin>

hey Og~

Rotic didn't forget you~
I know I missed a lot of people but
I didn't forget those who supported
me through my first year here at Lit-ville

even those who were harsh with their
criticism got a gift...even if it was anal beads
or a white glove <chuckle>

hey cookie~
cloudy~
impressive~
R Richard got one too~ <grin>

okay I'm only submitting two this
contest...my serious story is on it's way
"A Carpenters Carol"

then Josh henderson will tie up all the
series of tales of him but It won't be in
the contest...it'll just be a story for christmas...

happy Holidays to all and good luck~

Well, my WINTER HOLIDAY CONTEST story is up.

I may not be my ONLY one, but perhaps it will.

I COULD NOT think of anything erotic for this season.

Then I got the bright idea of spoofing "The Night Before Christmas" (Now THAT'S Original!) and it has just been accepted.

Now that the pressure is off, maybe I can come up with a real story.

VB, my sincere apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Circumstances beyond my control..........but.....I just read the version you sent me....I'm still laughing !!!

I love it.

Brilliantly funny, love the off the wall rhyming, and can't wait to see which final verse you selected.

The images.......oh, the images.
Wonderful.

Og

Well my new one came out...

A Carpenter's Carol

I submitted it as BDSM with a note for them to
place it where LIT felt it fit best and it came out
as INCEST~..It has hints of incest, bongade
romance, non-human, romance and or sci-fi...

It got bombed, so it'll be a last place contestant
and it's one of my better writes....grrrrrr

maybe I should write and submitt another
JOSH HENDERSON tale...maybe that will stay up
top~

Seems no matter what is submitted the TROLL bombs
them...well it was a fun write and I did enjoy it
so I feel fulfilled...<grin>

I loved the Dinner with Friends tale~
left ya a comment too~

Happy Holidays~
