I just tuned in for the last 15 minutes of Argentina-England. Holy cow. With the US and Mexico out, I don't have a favorite, but it's hard not to be impressed by Argentina's grit and ability to come from behind.
 
I'm not fan of Tuchel and he'll get roasted because they lost but it's hard to argue against bringing in burn and o reilly at 82 to lock down and hold the 1-0 lead, especially with Argentina dominating the second half and getting so many chances.

Taking off Gordon for a CB just let Messi take up camp and dictate play. 2 assists from Messi, 2 goals for Argentina.

I hope the boss says sorry to the players, cos they put in a hell of a shift, but he left them high and dry.

Having said that, I suspect if Argentina had played football from the first whistle, rather than spending 45 minutes trying to wind Bellingham up enough for him to do something silly and get sent off they’d have cruised that game,

Players win matches, and Messi and his teammates did that. Bad tactics lose matches and that’s on Tuchel
 
Lautaro who scored the final header should’ve had a second yellow for ripping off his shirt and jumping in the stands which would’ve disqualified him for this game.
 
England claimed third place after beating France 6-4 in an astonishing, topsy-turvy match.

Despite it being the last match under Didier Deschamps, the French looked disinterested in a one-way first half as England scored four goals without reply.

Declan Rice (standing in as captain in place of the rested Harry Kane) showed his Arsenal form as he opened the scoring inside three minutes, winning possession, surging forward and slotting home a superb shot.

Ezri Konsa headed home a Rice corner to make it 2-0 and Bukayo Saka added a third after being set up by Marcus Rashford. The fact that Rashford and Saka both had chances to score in the same move gave the game the air of a testimonial match.

Saka's fourth, in stoppage time, was a superb shot following an excellent pass from Arsenal team-mate Eberechi Eze.

Deschamps must have given his team a verbal rocket at half time and, with four substitutes adding much-needed energy, Killian Mbappe set about constructing an incredible fightback.

Mbappe, like Rice, scored within three minutes of the restart before Bradley Barcola slammed home the second. Mbappe finished off a flowing French move to make it 4-3 with his 10th goal of the tournament, putting him one ahead of Lionel Messi, who plays for Argentina in tonight's final against Spain.

That strike also made Mbappe the World Cup's all-time leading scorer with 22 goals.

France dominated the second half but were punished for squandering several chances, with Michael Olise guilty of wasting two massive opportunities. England goalkeeper Dean Henderson (starting in place of Jordon Pickford) also made several brilliant saves.

In a whirlwind finale, Saka made it 5-3 from the penalty spot after substitute Jude Bellingham, who was due to take the kick, gave the ball to his team-mate to allow him to complete his hat-trick (England's first since Geoff Hurst in 1966).

Ousmane Dembele replied for France in stoppage time before Bellingham dribbled through to score England's sixth with an outstanding solo goal in the 98th minute. It was his seventh goal of this tournament, the best tally from an English player at a single World Cup.

After surrendering a 1-0 lead to Argentina in the semi-final, England coach Thomas Tuchel came in for an avalanche of criticism, especially for what were seen as negative substitutions.

But, after this highly entertaining win, Rice told the media that "this is the best England team for a very long time".

Assistant manager Anthony Barry had tears in his eyes during an emotional interview when he said: "I can't find the words to describe how proud I am of these players. They're playing a game with broken hearts. I see 11 lads on the field with broken hearts.

"I've seen them in the hotel the last few days with broken hearts. And they can build a performance like that through pride of playing for England."
 
I hope I don't offend anyone, but I am so done with World Cup. It was fun for awhile, but it ran way too long and there were way too many controversies.
