World Trade Center-Plane Crash

20 years later, and the victims' families still can't have the records unsealed.
Disgraceful.

It might not be about conspiratorial stuff, but at least they can bring to light the govt. incompetence that led to both 9/11, and to Afghanistan 20 years later,

Because I was just reading these:

"On September 9, 2001,Putin called G.W.. Bush with an urgent message: Ahmad Shah Massoud, leader of the anti-Taliban and Moscow-supported Northern Alliance, had been assassinated in Afghanistan by two suicide bombers posing as journalists.
He warned Bush of “a foreboding that something was about to happen, something long in preparation.”
Two days later al-Qaida struck the United States."

"January-September 2001 - The FAA issues 15 information circulars containing generalized warnings about terrorist threats.
July 10, 2001 - FBI Agent Kenneth Williams writes a memo about Middle Eastern men training at Phoenix area flight schools, speculating that they could be connected to al Qaeda. CIA Director George Tenet briefs officials, including National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, about the al Qaeda threat.
August 6, 2001 - President George W. Bush receives a memo titled, "Bin Ladin determined to strike in US."

August 23, 2001 - The CIA sends an urgent cable to the FBI, State Department, Customs and INS, alerting them to the CIA's concerns about individuals linked to bin Laden.

September 4, 2001 - Bush's national security advisers approve a draft version of a plan to combat al Qaeda. It includes provisions for $200 million to arm the enemies of the Taliban. The advisers plan to present the draft to Bush on September 10, however the president is traveling and does not see it."

I was there yesterday. It seems a lot of people have forgotten the fear and anger that took root that day and now see it as another day to party on streets cordoned off to traffic. I suspect those people weren't here 20 years ago. It was much more solemn on-site.

It was my first time visiting, and I still wasn't prepared after 20 years.

Here's a pic I took:

*sigh* President Biden signed an EO on Sept.3rd to unseal all the documents, and for a full review of them whereupon they information must be released over the course of 6 months--except for any that would endanger american security. “9/11 Families United,” the group of some 1,800 survivors&family members of 9/11 victims, praised Biden’s recent executive order. Terry Strada, whose husband died in the incident, said that they are thrilled about Washington’s decision to release more evidence of Saudi connections to the 9/11 attack.

If you were "just reading these," then you obviously read the CNN "September 11 Warning Signs Fast Facts" article published on August 31 of late. If you opened the August 23, 2001 link entitled "CIA sends urgent cable" in that article you were taken to the rather extensive September 20, 2002 testimony of Eleanor Hill, Staff Director, Joint Inquiry Staff before the Joint House/Senate Intelligence Committee before and after the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001. The failings and incompetencies documented by director Hill speaks to a plethora of bungled opportunities to track and thwart three of the primary terrorists on 9/11 regardless of any assistance, incidental or otherwise, by the Saudi government.

Nor is there any indication of intelligence from either the Saudi desk of the CIA or the intelligence division of the State Department in Hill's testimony. If such state complicity existed, it should have shown up in other intelligence products within the American intelligence community.

Maybe the full, unredacted release of the"28 pages" will yet prove that treachery, but I would be very surprised. There is nothing about the global political objectives of Saudi Arabia in the year 2001 that would explain their motivation to literally and knowingly attack the United States.

“ In an interview aired Sept. 11 by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., Chretien said one of the lessons of the terrorist attacks was that Western countries, including the United States, should take care not to misuse their power and wealth.

"We're looked upon as being arrogant, self-satisfied, greedy and with no limits. And the 11th of September is an occasion for me to realize it even more," he said.”

Except nobody “fell” in the military sense.

And far more people died from Covid in NYC.

So what are you “remembering”?
"Covid" is in another thread. Not gonna comment on that. I am just remembering the lives of everyone lost on 9/11. The innocent, the first responders who tried helping and even the loved ones that lost from being attacked. That's what I am remembering.

i spent the last half hour or so reading right through this thread again, even as family members of those lost on 9/11 read the list of names of the lost and add their own, emotional, comments.

it's still heartbreaking and hard to believe it happened 21 years ago... still feels so fresh.

the extent and sudden nature of the devastation will always be a scar on Americans and non-Americans—so many nationalities were impacted that day, and the shockwave that went around the world was felt by even more. i remember watching it unfold on tv back in the UK... transfixed, shocked, crying and in fear of a huge retaliatory action about to happen. Thankful for cooler heads and the never give up attitude in hunting down those responsible even if not every driving force has been forced to pay the price.

let us not forget the additional 4,000+ people who have died since 9/11, succumbing to injuries and illnesses caused by that day... with many more still suffering.

The real lesson of 9/11.

Another year, back to September 11 again. The children of all those people who died on 9/11 have been adults for years at this point and many have kids of their own. So many missed graduations, weddings, births, even funerals. Maybe because I lost my 2nd parent this year and became an orphan myself, but I'm remembering the dead from 9/11 and their families this anniversary more than the politics of 2001. So many families were devastated on 9/11/01.

It's been a few years since I have reread this thread from start to finish. Maybe I'll do that later today. Remembering is important.

saw some of the remembrance footage this morning before heading out into the cool of the garden, where i spent time remembering and thinking in silence as i worked.
America had a rude awakening that these terrible events do not happen in a vacuum.

If you didn't see it, i recommend you check out this week's 60 Minutes, all about the FDNY

More than 60 children of fire fighters lost on 9-11 have joined the department.
