World War II: Behind Enemy Lines - (IC)

Iska

Chuckling, Iska drew her knife and stepped forwards towards him.

"I'd have asked for cigarettes, whiskey and human rights. Probably in that order."

Heading around behind him, she quickly cut through his bindings and freed his hands. Then, with a quick flick of her wrist she ran the blade in behind his blindfold, and it fell loosely into his lap. Sheathing her blade, she prodded his shoulder.

"Let's go and see this General. If they don't kill you..."

Raphael Gurber

He slowly got to his feet, rubbing his wrists,

"If he doesn't kill me, I will probably get a chance to fire at some of those said types and if a countryman decides to kill me, I will retaliate and kill them as well."

He frowned,

"I do hope I do not have to struggle with the mass produced inferior American weapons. The Gewehr 43 would be great to hold of course."

Salima Mimoun

Salima looked closely at the german who had just arose, trying to guess if he could be trusted. Of course it was impossible to tell from his face, sho she just decided he was not trustworthy to be on the safe side. She decided to follow Iska and the german. She would have to meet the americans. She renembered the well mannered american officials that had visited her father once. Had the world changed so much? But now she was a part of it, and there was nothing she could do about that. It was to late to leave, and she knew that she relly didn't want to go back to morroco and her family.

Iska

Exiting the side room, she rejoined the Americans, slipping her jacket on. One of her men brought forward a scoped rifle, and offered it to her. Slinging it over one shoulder, she lit up a cigarette quickly before motioning to Gurber.

"This German is willing to aid us, he'll accompany us. To keep the Resistance safe, we will not visit the leaders or places of importance. Any business we have with the Resistance will go through the runner they are sending. Keeping these people secret is more important now than any petty power play between nations, and officers.

If you are ready to leave, so am I."

Turning to Salima, she motioned her over. "Join us, and we'll find people who you can stay with not that your business is done."

Turning to Shanina, she stepped forward and offered her arm. Ready to shake her hand. "We'll talk as we walk, feel free to join me. Comrade."

Mike Adams

Mike nodded to Iska, "Nixon won't take kindly to a German officer walking with us, but I'll take care of it."

Mike motioned for them to follow and soon they headed off towards the camp. As the approached, the guards instantly grew warry when they saw non-American soldiers approaching but, seeing that they were Russian, they relaxed a little.

Looking up, he saw the command tent. He turned to the others, "Now, when we're meeting the General, speak only when spoken to, show respect, and don't do anything stupid."

Iska

"I'll show respect, as long as it is returned. But a General of any army is still a General, I'll act accordingly."

No matter the rank, Iska gave any soldier a certain level of respect, but those who were career men and women held another level of respect. Admiration. It took more than just physical success to reach the rank of General, no matter how you got there. Unless you happen to be one of the very few who luck was overly kind to.

((Crap post. I'll wait for the others now.))

Aleksandra Shanina

Aleksandra looked at Iska as she offered her hand to her. She said, "We'll talk as we walk, feel free to join me. Comrade."

Smiling, Aleksandra replied, "Thank you for your hospitality Iska. I am very happy to be able to finally group with a strong group like yours." She shook her warm hand.

Aleksandra was happy to know that she was joing a permenant group after her previous squad had been wiped out. She felt a sense of security even though the German had been freed from his bindings and given a firearm. She strapped her sniper rifle to her back and followed Iska out of the building and to the American camp.

Raphael Gurber

He followed the lead as they moved from the house to a FOB, it was interesting how fast the American army moved when it was needed. Nothing of course like the Luftwaffen Fallschirmjäger or Green Devils as they have also been called. He said nothing to anybody, just kept his hands in plain sight and if he had to move them he did so slowly. He noticed that most of the soldiers looked at him with disgust, but he walked tall and proud, he was what he was and he wasn't going to make any excuses for his actions, nor will he make excuses for the actions of others.

Salima Mimoun

"There is no place left to go for me. I am not a soldier, but not coward or stupid. I speak fluently arabian, english and french, and a few words of other languages. If anyone doesn't want me to come along, I will try to find another place."
Salima had handed the letter over meanwhile; the french would know what to do with it. They hadn't bothered to ask her for any more favours, nor did they asked if they could do anything for her. Not even a thank you. SO, she could as well stay with the russians and americans.

Mike Adams and General Conner

Mike nodded to Iska and led them to the tent where the General was waiting. Mike saluted to General Conner, "Sir, I've returned with the Russian soldiers as ordered and managed to get into contact with the French Resistance, but they weren't very happy to see us."

General Conner turned to face Mike, then he looked at the Russian soldiers. After a few moments of examining them he spoke, "When D-Day began, I wasn't expecting to meet any Soviets. I thought your all were in Russia, fighting off the Germans. I guess Stalin like to keep u in the dark, even though we're allies."

Conner smiled and shook his head, "I'm sorry, where are my manners. My name is General Conner Howard. I'm sorry for asking you all to come here but I needed to ask you a few questions. Nothing too difficult, I just want to know why Soviet soldiers are here in France, what is your mission, and who is your commanding officer who sent you here?"

Iska

Meeting the General, Iska got the feeling that he was a warm man when in a good mood but could have possibly have a very cold manner when angry or annoyed. Overall he seemed matter of fact, and calculating. Just as a General was needed to be to command men to their deaths, or to victory if lucky.

Stepping forward, Iska shook his hand. Finding the salute a little too formal for such orders considering her mission was not a large scale military operation. Stepping back to her place beside Captain Adams she smiled at his questioning.

"Sergeant Nadishka Volovik, General. My mission is simply to move around any Resistance strongholds of the countries combating the Germans to train their men and women. I've worked with Russian towns and was chosen for this duty as part of a 'less conventional' tactic of Marshal Semyon Timoshenko. Our aim is to create tougher opposition for Hitler among the towns people in this path, to use up his resources and keep him from standard army vs army warfare. It's one of our main battle strategies at this time to keep his mind in more places than he and his men can handle.

Up until now, this has been a 'silent' operation behind the scenes and shouldn't interfere dramatically with any Allied plans. If anything, hopefully you'll find the Germans you face distracted by any town along their path. Maybe not in France yet...but I plan to begin work immediately."

Salima Mimoun

Salima was standing some steps behind, feeling strange. She was the only well dressed person among the more or less uniformed soldiers - or partisans. But once again, she felt ignored by the military people. She had been actress in Hollywood, and now, the americans did not even look at her. None had even bothered to talk to her, although she stood out in the crowd. Had her decision been right?

Mike Adams and General Conners

Conners nodded to Nadishka then looked over at the civilain woman. Fnaaly, the glanced at the German, and his eyes widened in alarm to see that he was armed. His face twisted in anger as he waved over to Mike. Mike took a step forward, "Sir?"

"Captain Mike Adams, why is a civilian here? I said to only bring the Russians, and more importantly, why bring a German along, especially a armed one!"

Mike blinked in surprise. He hadn't noticed that the German was armed, how hadhe gotten a hold of a weapon. "Sir, I didn't know-" but th General cut him off, "You know the rules! What were you thinking?! He's the enemy!"

General Connor sigh in frustration and put his hand to his head, then he glared at Mike. "You'll be demoted for this foul-up. You've lucky I'm in a good mood. But don't disapoint me again."

Mike dippd his head in shame, then nodded and saluted to the General, "Yes, I understand sir. I won't disappoint you again."

Conner looked over at two of his troops, "You two" he pointed towards the German soldier, "Disarm that soldier." Then he looked back at the Russian troops and the civilian woman, "I sorry for that, anyways, we have food and supplies if you need them. We'll be happy to help you in any way possible."

Iska

Taking a liberty with the situation, Iska shook her head and objected to the General's orders. Stepping between the two soldiers and the German, she cleared her throat and spoke business. "General, this German has accepted a truce pact with me. As such, I believe he falls under my responsibility and my command. He is armed with a small caliber sidearm, with only one magazine. And even then, the bullets have no powder in them and are useless." Turning back to look at Gurber, she gave him an apologetic look.

"It was part of his test, sir. To stand in front of the American General. A key target in the Allied invasion. If I was in his position, and only accepting my terms long enough to meet someone orchestrating such an advance, then I would have taken the shot by now. He won't meet anyone of more importance than yourself. And I will not be showing him any of the Resistance leaders. They will meet for training elsewhere. If you want, you can hear why he's doing this."

Turning to Mike, she bowed her head slightly at him. "I am sorry that I did not tell you earlier, but there was no time. And he could not find out about this, because I still need to know he's going to do his part in our terms."

"I suggest we continue, and Gurber be removed from the tent and wait outside with the Captain's men if it is more comfortable for you."

Salima Mimoun

"I am not here to beg for anything. I have helped the resistance and her and her men-" she looked at Iska "to infiltrate the german building. I was asked to join them."

Mike Adams

Mike smiled and nodded at Iska when she spoke up for him. The General was about to speak again, whe the civilian woman spoke up. Mike winced a her comment, she had just shown disrespect to the General.

The General turned towards the woman with glared and spoke in a low voice, "You had better learn to keep a civil tongue woman. I didn't ask you to beg for help. I'm giving you free food and supplies to help you on your task."

Iska

"And I'll ask for you to do the same, General." Iska spoke softly, not wanting to add to the heated situation but she didn't enjoy his tone. "Right now we are pushed to a stressful point, but its no reason to disrespect this woman."

Nodding to Salima, Iska spoke up again. "Currently this woman has proven more worthy than your men, to me. And I offer her my respect for doing a soldiers duty, without being trained, paid or disciplined for it. Can we afford to treat her any different, when she has proven her fighting spirit and patriotism. If France and Europe had more of such men and women, we may not be needed to fight this war. And if anyone is to show stress, it should be her, who hasn't been trained for these situations."

Stepping down again, she looked around. "I do not doubt everyone present deserves the right and respect for what duty they have served. Let us move on. Salima, do you mind going with Ivan and Vasilli and Raphael. Refresh yourself, eat, drink and rest. I'll join you once I have finished speaking with the General and the Captain."

Mike Adams

Mike instantly looked at Iska with a worrd exprestion, "Shut up, don't make him-" but it was too late. The General glared in anger then took on an emotionless face and spoke in a deep calm tone. Definitally not what one wnted to hear from the General.

"And do tell what she has gone through to earn the right to back talk to someone. A someone who's providing help and assistance in any way possible. May I tell you what we've gone through?"

Iska

"Don't misunderstand why I speak for her, it is not out of disrespect towards you or your men. But rank and status does not excuse anyone for rudeness or demanding others obey, unless they signed up for that. She is the only reason your men stand before you. Her actions led to a proportion of German soldiers diverting from the building where Captain Adams was held, allowing for us to move."

Looking at Mike, Iska remembered the scene of the planes coming down, of the parachutes and of the obvious carnage and disarray the Americans had been in. And were still in. Sighing, she shook her head slowly. Was it any different to marching through blizzards, or charging machine gun fire, or sharing ammunition due to low supplies.

"I can assume you have been through hell. But were you and your men not trained for such an occurrence, for the possibility of the plan failing or going wrong? As I have been trained to accept that I will die someday for some reason. Just because the situation occurred, does not mean that you and your men have suffered a worse fate than any other military has. Even if the fate suffered is devastating. My own comrades die in far greater numbers, and have done so in this war to protect what we believe in. You are only starting in this war, and your casualty list will rise, I assure you of that. Every town you take, every hill you climb and every square inch of ground you control will be at the cost of hundred if not thousands of lives.

I merely do not want you to ignore those who are not of military training and background in this war. They have just as much right, if not more of one, to die and risk everything for their country. Your country is miles upon miles away, they fight for the soil we are standing on right now."

Clearing her throat, Iska spoke with a sincere voice. "And I hope my forwardness will not sully the relations between us, General. I am forward, it is a fault of mine. But I hate to bullshit, especially when more pressing matters are of concern."

((Anyone have a shovel...I think I need to dig up.))

Salima Mimoun

Salima thought about apologizing to the general, because she might have misunderstood him, but she canceled that as Iska spoke up. She decided she would certainly back up the russian woman if there would be a conflict. She was somehow surprised, because she had expected that Iska wouldn't have a high opinion of her because her civiilian background and her more expensive clothes and jewelery, but things mean to be more complicated in europe then she expected.

Raphael Gurber

He held up his hand to be noticed and then spoke,

"Excuse me General, I may be of help. There is caches buried all over the countryside, we have been preparing. I'm sure that the retreating forces doesn't have the time nor always the coordinates of these caches. It maye of help to your offensive? There is also one bit of information that you will find interesting, we know that you are working on nuclear weapons, but our scientists are already busy testing these weapons. Coupled with the V3 rocket these weapons might become one of the worst weapons ever seen in this war."

Salima Mimoun

Salima had no idea what these nuclear weapons were meant to be, nor was she really surprised that the officer spoke english. But she wondere dhow the general would take this. She was a civilan, and had angered him without purpose; but this was a prisoner. She looked between Gruber and the general, waiting what would come next.

Mike Adams

Mike sighed and watched as the others left then he approached the General. General Conner looked up at him with an emotionless expression, "You need to get some medical assistance and after that, I'll have something for you."

Mike saluted then headed out of the tent.

Salima Minoun

Salima went out with the others. She took care to keep Iska in view; so far she was the only person that was really on her side. She although through a glance to Mike. Maybe they should have a word together.

Lieutenant Nathan Thomas

Nathan stepped off the Willy's jeep that had taken him here he was new to the idea of taking orders from an american and he was new to europe. He wondered how many captains there were here. Turning to the first person he sees he yells out "hey private can you tell me where to find Captain Adams?"(random private)"uuh ya I saw him go into the tent right over there but I don't think your allowed to go in there.""Hey buddy what's that accent?""Its Canadian and I'm not your buddy."
