Worlds Apart

Jack

Loki smiled as he wrapped the creature up in Jack's cloak. Whatever it was, it was tearing violently against the fabric.

"I got 'em!" Loki shouted. "Nice try, you little toad!" The creature tried to chew his way out of the side of the trap, but found itself at the end of Sorian's broad sword. It let out a squeal at teh site of the sharp blade. Jack walked over, his hand wrapped up in ripped-off strips of his vest. He walked over by Sorian

"Let's get this thing down." Jack said. Sorian nodded and the two of them got the creature out of the cloak and to the ground. Jack held the creature down while Sorian held his sword to it's throat and Loki hovered his hammer over it's head.

"Can you talk?" Jack asked. He felt a little silly asking a creature this, but nothing was as it seemed here.

"Yessssssss." It said, squirming in pain.

"Stop moving!" Sorian commanded. It complied with the man's wishes.

"Alright." Jack said to the slimy being. "I'm only going to ask this once or these two will return the pain you gave my hand ten-fold." The boy's cold voice inflicted fear in the creature's eyes. "How do we get off this island?"

The wrap about his face and body began to shift. Before it had fully revealed the light of day hands and wepons were holding Gorleb down to the ground. His yellowed eyes glanced from pointed sword to heavy hammer as he struggled against his captors.

"Stop moving!" commanded a voice.

The archer held the minion fast. "Can you talk?"

"yessssssss" hissed Gorleb.

This innocent threw a threat of pain and asked his question. Gorleb knew he would be crushed and diced if he did not speak. His words came slow and thoughtful, almost kind, leaving a bitter taste in his hellish mouth as he answered.

"Gorleb knowsssssss not the way to leave, only the way to enter." He licked his nonexistent lips. The hands about his throat tightened and shook the creature violently.

He saw the hammer raise readied for use.

"Wait! wait, pleasessssssssss" he begged. " Gorleb knowssssss, he knowssss. There is one." His head tilted to the side almost like a small child being cute for a purpose. "One who can help." His tongue flicked outward, nostrils inhaling the scent of the weaker one. His eyes darted in her direction. He felt his body being lifted from the ground, the ooze being shaken from his skin.

Eyes narrowed as he hissed forth the words in a mere whisper. "If you kill me, you sssssshalll never know. Thissss place will sssssoon be a pit you have never known."

"i say we tie his hands and feet and let him speak untill then this slimey toad may be very unpredictable"i said as i searched thru the pockets of the robe.FInding only scrolls,,, Scrolls,, i thought as i kept searching 'i didnt know i had those' i thought while i searched keeping the blade steady ont this creature.

Kelly spun about upon hearing a thrashing in the bushes behind them. She was torn between a thieve's instinct to run and hide and her own to go help whoever was in trouble. She also wondered where the hell she was getting the instincts that seemed to be slowly seeping through her body.

Making a decision, she gestured to the others to follow and ran back the way they had come. Screetching to a halt a sight ment her eyes. Three men were standing over a bundle of rags that was thrashing and yelling, and smelling very badly at that, and a woman was leaning against a tree looking very weak.

Seeing that the men had everything in hand, she moved over to the woman. Kneeling down by her, she examined her and noted that she was not breathing as well as she should.

"Poison" something inside her said and she automatically reached into the pockets of her costume and realized just how many there were. Her hands grasped some vials and she took them out to see what they were. The writing on them was in her handwriting but this was the first time she had ever seen them. But she didn't have time to think about that now. Peering at them she realized that they were names of poisons. No good...but where there were poisons there were...BINGO!

Reaching another of the many pockets she came out with more vials and these were labled with antidotes. It was a very foolish thief indeed who did not carry the cure for their own vials.

Holding the vials in one hand, the other hovered over them and, as if she knew what the symptoms the girl were having, reached for a blue corked vial and held it out to her.

"Look," She said,"I don't know how I know but this will make you feel better. I don't know how I can ask you to trust me when I can't explain any of this but I don't think we really have a choice in the matter at this point."

Loki kept the hammer held over his head as Sorian looked through his cloak for some rope. Loki felt his patience wearing thin as the impromptu interrogation was not going the way they wanted. The little creature was just hissing in that odd way about how they couldn't kill him.

As Loki stood watch over the slimy thing, he noticed some motion out of the corner of his eye. He glanced over and saw awoman dressed in all black approaching Jasamine with a vial. He was going to call out when he noticed that Jasamine didn't immediately try to get away. He figured that it meant that there was no danger. "Maybe they can help us off this island," Loki thought to himself as Soria found a decent length of rope in his cloak.

tying the creature up i turned to my companion (loki) "maybe you can get some sence out of him i found some scrolls in my cloak that might help with our delema" i said as i kept my blad trained on the creature."it might even answer the question we ask of him." i said still watching the creature but handing my companion one of the scrolls.

ooc the scrolls would be in a language i had no idea i knew but you guys wont know.

Jack

Jack held the creature "Gorleb" down while Sorian fished some rope out of his pockets. He tied the toad up and created a leash around it's neck. Jack nodded and let go of it. He turned around to see a woman trying to make Jasamine swallow something.

"Whoa!" Jack yelled and, grasping his sword in his good hand, he ran over and placed the blade to the back of the woman's neck. "Put the vial down or I'll sever your head from your body." Jack hissed in a low, menacing voice. The woman froze. "Now!"

She slowly turned around to face him. "I-"

"Did I say you could turn around?" Jack yelled, but stopped when he saw her face. It was the girl he had seen earlier on the ship; the one leaning against the same rail he was. He kept the sword steady for a few seconds longer, then pulled it away and sheathed it. "Sorry." Jack sighed. "I didn't notice who you were."

"You have an interesting way of greeting people." She said.

"I've been jumpy all day. I've run into my fair share of trouble." He glanced at the blue vial of liquid. "What's that?"

"It's an antidote for the her." She pointed to Jasamine.

"An antidote? We don't even know what's wrong with her? How do you know that that's the antidote?"

"I'm not sure. I just do."

"Doesn't sound too sure to me." Jack said. The woman gave him a look and he sighed. "Oh fine. Don't mess up, though. She's in your hands now, doc."

Kelly sighed, letting herself shake a bit as a reaction to having a sword at her neck but she knew she had to try to help the woman before her. Sitting down beside her, she put her arm around her back and tilted the vial to her lips.

With a sigh she said,"I'm no doctor. I am apparently a thief that is pretty handy with poisons."

And it creeps me out as much as anyone that I know things I shouldn't She thought as she encouraged the woman to drink. She hoped just as much as he did she didn't screw this up. But, seeing as how the whole time on the island had been one screwup she didn't think she could do any worse.

"I came two others that should be arriving soon," She called out to the swordsman keeping her eye on the woman beside her,"A mage and a soldier. Try not to make them into shishkabobs if you don't mind."

With the toad-looking thing tied up nicely, Loki took one of the scrolls handed to him. He unrolled it and looked at the weird symbols on the paper.

"What the hell does this say?" Loki asked, showing it to Sorian. "I can't undersand a thing on it. Maybe you will have better luck than me."

sorian

Taking the scroll back from loki,i looked at it,Looking at the symbols i knew i couldnt read them,,, except that i could.'thru wind and rain, ice and cold i have jouneyed to the farthest reaches of this island and to no avail, it seems there is no way off this island.so i have written all my knowlege in these scrolls,Every spell i knew is within this robe and i hope that it stays with me' it read."Whats it say?" Loki asked. "its just a list of knowlege that someone wrote down but what gets me is its my handwriting"
deciding to wait till later to read the others i pocketed it and sheathed my sword.grabbing the creature i bring it closer to the group so we can talk but still positioning it where i was still between it and jasmine.waiting for the women to get done with jasmine so that she might introduce herself, i kept my hand on my broadsword just incase.

"Hey wait!," Dan shouted as Kelly ran off into the brush. She either didn't hear or chose to ignore him. Shaking his head he turned to his other companion, "Stay close." He set off at a jog after her.

It wasn't far a long chase. He soon entered the small clearing where a group of bizzare looking people, were tieing up an even more bizzare looking creature. His eyes scanned the travelers and assesed the threat each one posed. He didn't know why he did it, it just seemed natural.

No one seemed to notice his arrival. Two of the men were intent on the slimey little creature, the other one was with Kelly seeing to a rather sickly looking woman.

There was a crash of snapping branches and a startled gasp behind him as the other woman, what was her name?, entered the clearing.

Heads snapped around in unsion and hands went to weapons. Dan himself went into a defensive crouch infront of the mage and he found his own sword drawn and bared. "Stand down," he said in a commanding voice. "We mean no harm."

Ropes were fastened tightly about the minion's body. His natural ooze dampened the strands. He wiggled and turned causing the ropes to stretch slightly, but enough.

The travlers had become semi-ditracted for the time. The theif and her partners had entered the clearing. He quickly sized up the party. Yes this could work to his advantage. The innocent with the theif, in her hands a vial of blue concotion. He had forgotten how many swords could be drawn in such a gathering. Of course the strong scent of insecurity and distrust was more than evident, even to the most indelicate of senses.

He heard the crinkle of parchment and turned to face the two struggling to understand written scrolls. Ah, yessssss he thought. He knew one of the many would have the right words. Now his needed items were complete, the words and the essence. He leared again at the weak, innocent one against the tree. The liquid of the thief's vial tipping forward toward her parted lips. Slipping a thin arm from the ropes he licked his finger tips.

Looking to the blood sun he hacked and spat to the dirt.
"Time...fleeting time." He chewed on a mangled, discolored nail.
"The time passesssssss sssssoooooo quickly." With a stomach souring belch the creature flopped down into the dirt. Grit rose and stuck to his body.

Singing he teased the crowd. "Gorgglesssss and hagsssss, demonsssss and witchesssss, the ssssssetting ssssssun, your world it ssssswitchessssss." He quickly replaced his arm within the ropes, a wicked smile in his eyes.

Jack glared at the man protecting the mage; that was one of the guards from the dock...maybe he knew something about why they were all here. But logic took over and told him that the man was just as lost as they were. He sheathed his sword.

"They're still in one peice. Happy?" He mumbled to the thief. The woman seemed to ignore him and work on Jasamine. He grumbled and sat down. After thinking for a second, he took a long stick of wood and began to carve it with his blade. The mage and guard walked up to them.

"What are you doing?" The guard asked.

"I'm an archer." Jack said simply. "I just thought it may be fitting for me to make myself a bow and some arrows." He began to carve when he heard the toad-creature begin to chant odd lyrics. He was teasing them, but it also seemed like he was warning them not to wait around. Jack grumbled to himself and wished the thief would hurry up.

Jasamine

I eagerly took the vial to my lips rlom the woman's hand. I somehow trusted her implicitly, almost as if I had looked
into her eyes and had seen her soul. I drank hunglrily and immediately feltas though my sould were returning to me. I was spinning again, travelling back at tremendous speed past strage undersea creatures and winged serpents, through fire and cold. It reminded me of the dreams I had when I was a child.
I was back with such a start that I could have sworn I heard thunder or some explosion from deep in the earth.

The creatures eyes immediately met mine as he froze, snapping out of his sing song verse.
"N-nooooooooo" he moaned.
There were more people around me than I even knew were on the Island. I was sizing them up when I heard a voice, unhuman and deep, angry and smoothe.

" Diwkhtha nasha t:aya q:am min ! Golreb SREEKHA!!"

I saw the vile creature writhe in pain at the sound of the words. I hadn't had a chance to see if the others had ehard, but I saw something different in that creature. Golreb. He was frightened and tormented.

"Golreb, who are you? What is happening here? You know."

Loki has temporarily taken his mind off of the little creature to look at the scrolls with Sorian. When he heard the commotion in the bushes behind them, he immediately brought out his hammer. He relaxed some when he saw the guard from the banquet and the woman who had briefly sat next to him. he hadn't seen her since she hastily got up and left.

Loki watched the brief exchange and then went back to looking at the scrolls with Sorian, hoping that at least one of them would provide some answers. That is when the creature started writhing on the ground and speaking some odd lyrics. Was the little bastard teasing them? He heard Jasamine ask the creature, (did she call him Gorleb?), a question. When he didn't immediately answer, Loki knelt over the creature, hammer in hand, with an angry look in his eyes. If being polite doesn't work , Loki thought to himself, then maybe another method will. Loki raised the hammer over the creature's head. "If you don't answer the lady, your skull get's crushed."

Mic

(sorry for delay I work long days on Tuesday and Thursday and am about to work a 24 hour shift, without internet access from 5pm Friday night to 5pm Saturday night)

I flung my hands up and the entire scene froze for a few brief moments and I found myself watching as time slowly resumed.
"Relax, I bet if we checked stories we would find out that we all know less than nothing. Secure the creature," the word came snarling from my lips and I said something in a language I only viscerally knew. "Shall we work together or shall we die at each others hands? I'm sure that would make that thing and whatever dark purpose he serves extremely happy." I felt my cloak billow out around me and wondered how imposing I looked as I faced threatening looks and finally as thoughts turned and reason came back the young woman, I think Jasmine was her name coughed and agreed with the idea.

(only used Jasmine as she seemed rationale and as Jack and Loki seem to trust her)

"Call me Mic," I said as I offered my hand to Jack as Loki was holding a warhammer to the creatures head. I stepped back as they interogated the creature, that they seemed to call Gorleb or some such name that sounded half snarl half curse.

Jack

"Jack." Jack introduced himself to Mic. He wasn't sure he liked this woman. She seemed to be quite arrogant and mysterious, an untrustworthy combonation. But she did have a point. Fighting would get them nowhere.

He looked over to Jasamine and once he confirmed that she was indeed okay, he walked over to the tied up Gorleb.

"Okay, toady. Who is this person who can help us?"

"Gorleb will take you."

"No, you will tell us!" Jack glared menacingly. Gorleb cringed.

"I don't think it will tell us. We may need to follow it." He heard one of the women say. Jack mumbled to himself before responding.

"Fine...we'll let it take us there." Jack stood up, then turned back to the creature. "But no funny business, got it?"

"Yessssssss!" It said in an almost pleading tone. "Gorleb underssssssstandssssss."

We may have to follow it What the hell had made her say that? She didnt want to follow it. In fact she didn't want to be on this island anymore. But to get off this island they would have to know exactly what was going on and the only way to do that would be to....

She sighed and said again. "Let it up and tie a rope to it tight enough to make sure it doesn't get away. Following it is our only option if we want to get off this island and back to the real world again.

She paused a moment looking at the thing which seemed to smile at her statement as if what she said was amusing. As if getting off this island was either not an option or wouldn't solve their problem.

A shiver ran down her spine and she swallowed hard. The more this went on the less she liked it. In fact she didn't see how she could like it any less but she had a feeling she was about to find out.

"Hold on, hold on, hold on," Loki said, a look of confusion on his face. "This little bastard attacked Jack, taunted u, and we are just supposed to follow it? Jasamine, you may have helped us before, but I think we should discuss this a little more. I've seen enough movies to know that he will only lead us into more trouble. I don't think we can trust him."

sorian

Continuing to look at the scrolls after the brief distractions i start to notice titles to them...'fire charm' 'burning hands' 'fire blast' dismissing them i only idely glance at the words.Putting the scrolls back in my pocket i sheath my sword and again lean on my staff. The words to the burning hands charm seemed to stay stuck in my head."welp no help there"i said more to myself than to anyone. Then one of them suggested following the creature, and then loki started to object.Putting a hand on his shoulder"think if we cant find a way off peacfully then whoever or whatever trouble he might bring us to might also be able to tell us how to leave." i said not making much sense as soon as i said it.

"Okay, fine," Loki conceded. "But may I make a suggestion? I don't know about the rest of you, but I am kind of hungry and tired. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't think we should go charging into danger tired and hungry. We should make camp here and set out when we are all fully rested."

Jasamine

:D it's my birthday! :D

It appeared as though nobody but myself and that Gorleb thing had heard the cry from the Earth. I instinctively knew that it was intended only for the half-dead creature, but I understood in a way that it was somthing in an ancient language. Something about waking from a sleep, a human sacrifice.
Before I could figure it all out I was distracted by the "wizard" reading the scrolls, the guard from the castle, everyone that was trying to get the Gorleb to tell them something.
Kelly ( I had heard her tell Jack her name as she was giving me the vial ) said something about having to follow the creature. I was beginning to have some concept of what was to happen, but I didn't like it one damn bit.
"We do have to follow it. I am sure of that," I said to them all. Then to Gorleb, " But it's not to get to[/] someone who can help, is it, vile Gorleb?"
"Cursssssed innocccccentssss" he hissed, " Alwayssssssss thinkingg that which might, thinking Gorrrrrrrlebs thoughtsss aren't right."
"Your thoughts are what are telling me truth, Gorleb" (where did that come from?) " And we will follow you, but not for reasons you wish us to."
I was intently focused on the creatures eyes, trying to read his next move when I heard...

"What the hell does all that mean?" Kelly asked in a loud whisper.
I turned to see that everyone was silent and looking a little confused.
"What?"
"I didn't understand a word you said, Jasamine. You and that Gorleb thing. What's going on?"
" But... wait ~ you couldn't understand me? I was just speaking plain english"
"No English I've ever heard before" Loki piped in.

I looked into each of their faces, feeling the fear, the confusion each held. I knew then I was crossing over to something, somewhere I had to go. I was feeling stronger now, thanks to Kelly, and knew it was time to put it to use.

But I was still afraid.

Jack

ooc: Happy Birthday Creme!

ic: Jack sat against a large tree, hardly believing what he had just heard. Jasamine and Gorleb were talking in an odd language he had never heard before. He rose an eyebrow as she realized the language she was using was not the English we all knew. Once again, the fucked-up world takes another turn.

Jack decided to break the eerie silence. "I think Loki's right. We should probably get some rest. I don't know about you guys," he addressed the three new people. "but I've been walking and fighting all day. I've had the shit pounded out of me, I've been attacked by winged snakes, and I've been bitten in the hand by an odd toad-creature." He pointed to the sky. "Besides, the sun is setting. I'd rather not travel at night."

He put his arms behind his head and leaned back against the tree. "We should set up camp, plan what we will do tomorrow, and go to sleep. If day two on this god-forsaken island is anything like the first day, we are going to need all of our strength."

sorian

"i think we should post sentries aswell,,, and seeing how i cant sleep well at night i volunteer for the first shift."I said as i sat down

Dan

"I agree. Not only to look for threats from without, but to keep an eye on this little blighter as well." He threw a scowel at the creature. "I'll take second watch. Wake me when the moon reaches that point," he gestured to a spot above a large tree in the distance.

Dan removed his armour and sword and layed his bundled up cloak down as a pillow and immediatly dozed off.

Dreams came immediatly.

------------------------------------------

He looked over a blood drenched field, dead and dying men all around. Strangly dressed men in armour. He looked down and saw he was dressed the same.

It was the aftermath of a vicious battle. He lifted his sword and saw blood smeared all the way to the hilt and covering his hand. In the red-tinged reflection of the blade he could see his face, splattered in the blood of men. It wasn't the bored face of a park security guard, it was the grim face of a battle hardened soldier.

--------------------------------------

"Wake up," Dan was being shaken "Its your watch." Dan sat up and surved the area. It was as he remembered. He looked to his hands, no blood. "A dream then," he said in a suprisingly hard voice. The man, the one dressed as a wizard who's name Dan couldn't recolect, had a surpirsed expression at the hardness of tone and, Dan now realized, face.

He adopted a softer expression and asked "Any thing to report?"
