'Leaks, lies and no answers': Family still demanding justice 6 years after Eric Garner's death

NEW YORK — There have been “leaks, lies and no answers” for six years about the death of Eric Garner at the hands of NYPD officers, lawyers for the Staten Island man’s family argued Monday.

Like this oft-repeated detail: Garner was selling untaxed cigarettes before his caught-on-video bust.

“One officer from a football field away said he saw Eric Garner selling smokes,” lawyer Alvin Bragg said at a virtual court hearing. “Another said he saw Eric Garner trying to break up a fight. Allow us to explore the underlying facts that have not yet been determined.”

The suit brought by Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, his sister Ellisha Flagg-Garner and six other allies and police reform advocates demands an inquiry be held to investigate, once and for all, the circumstances surrounding the stop, arrest, and death of Garner on July 17, 2014.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, former police Commissioner James O’Neill and FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro are all named as respondents in the suit, court papers show.

Ex-cop Daniel Pantaleo’s May 2019 departmental trial culminated in his firing, yet yielded few answers to outstanding factors in the case, Carr said Monday.

California sheriff’s deputy caught on video stealing from deceased resident’s home

A California sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for burglary after being caught on surveillance video taking items out of the house of a deceased resident, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The 12-year Orange County deputy, identified as Steve Hortz, broke into the home three times. On August 10 and 16, Hortz “removed items including weapon safes, ceiling fans and cases containing unknown items” from the home. He also entered the property while in uniform on July 27. It’s not known if any items were taken on that day.

Now as far as the police go. Let's tell them to obey the Communist and not respond to any calls about burning and robbing the rich fat castles of the Democrats and take all the security forces away for any Democrat, past or present as they don't need them. If they get robbed, raped, or killed send a social worker to discuss it with the criminals and split the loot. (Just think how much drugs and money there is in their mansions.) Attorney general who killed man with his car while reporting hitting a deer now says ‘I discovered the body’

South Dakota Republican Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg now says he is the one who discovered the body of 55-year old Joseph Boever, who had been walking along the highway Saturday night when Ravnsborg struck and killed him.

Ravnsborg now says in a statement released Tuesday, “I discovered the body.”

Ravnsborg was on his way home from a Republican fundraising dinner when he hit and killed Boever. The fundraiser included a raffle for a MAGA “.45 Trump handgun,” the GOP group announced.

The Rapid City Journal reports Ravnsborg “said in a statement Monday night that he and the local sheriff searched a crash scene after he thought he hit a deer Saturday night but they both missed spotting the pedestrian he had hit and killed.”

Ravnsborg, who been cited for speeding six times in four years, “said he used Hyde County Sheriff Mike Volek’s personal vehicle to drive home to Pierre and then returned it to Highmore the next day.”

There are some seemingly curious actions.

“Instead of calling 911 Ravnsborg drove to Volek’s house ‘to report the discovery,’ leaving Boever on the side of the highway where he had been since 10:30 p.m. the night before.”

GREENVILLE, Texas (CN) — A white police officer in a small town in East Texas was arrested Monday evening and charged with murder for shooting and killing Jonathan Price, a Black man who was reportedly breaking up a fight and nonviolently resisting arrest.

Texas Rangers arrested officer Shaun Lucas, 22, and booked him into the Hunt County Jail. His bail was set at $1 million.

The Rangers say Lucas responded to reports of a fight in Wolfe City on the evening of Oct. 3 and made contact with Price, 31.

Why are jail phone calls so expensive?

When you ask Shawn Barrera-Leaf how long her 27-year-old son, Gabe, has been incarcerated, she responds with precise accuracy. "Nine-hundred and seventy-five days," she told CBS News last month.

Barrera-Leaf, 57, has been tracking another number that's also steadily increasing. After combing through credit card and bank account statements, Barrera-Leaf said she and her husband have spent $14,268 over the past two years so Gabe can make calls from behind bars.

Gabe has spent time in three different Michigan county facilities while serving a sentence for child pornography charges. That includes nearly three months in Isabella County Jail last year, where it cost Barrera-Leaf $18.97 to speak with him for 15 minutes — one of the highest rates nationwide, according to a 2018 report by the Prison Policy Initiative.

So, why are the rates so high? Experts say inmates are subject to monopolies and surcharges because they're unable to shop around for phone providers. Nationwide, the average cost of one 15-minute phone call from jail is $5.74, but that amount can range as high as $24.82, according to the Prison Policy Initiative.

Body cam catches Boston cop bragging about running over Black Lives Matter protestors

In a video that is quickly going viral, a sergeant with the Boston Police Department bragged to a fellow officer on body camera about "fucking hitting" Black Lives Matter protestors with his car. “Dude, dude, dude, I fucking, I drove down Tremont. There was an unmarked state police cruiser they were all fucking gathered around,” the sergeant begins. “So then I had a fucker keep coming, fucking running. I’m fucking hitting people with the car. Did you hear me? I was like, 'Get the fuck—'” At this point in the video, his recording officer briefly taps the sergeant on the head, turn his body camera away and then informs the sergeant that the camera is on. 'You’re Acting Like A Child,' Rochester Police Tell Nine-Year-Old Girl Before Pepper-Spraying Her

This summer, police in Rochester, New York, smothered Daniel Prude, a man in the middle of a mental health crisis. Seven days later, he died after life support was removed, and the county medical examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by the restraints the cops put on him. After that, after an entire summer of protests about that, after the city established a mobile Person in Crisis team consisting of specially trained mental health professionals, so that police officers were not answering mental health calls they have no business answering, how do you think things are going? If your guess was "not great," congratulations, you win the centerpiece.

On Friday — while the mobile mental health crisis team was busy with way too many other calls — Rochester Police responded to a 911 call from a mother saying her daughter was threatening suicide. This led to the police chasing and berating the child, who was clearly in severe distress, handcuffing her, pushing her in the back of a police vehicle, threatening to pepper-spray her and then, eventually, pepper-spraying her.

In the body cam footage, released on Sunday, you at first hear a cop yelling at a little girl walking down the street to come back, yelling that he's cold and does not want walk all the way down the street for her. From the beginning they treat her like a criminal and not like a child in crisis. He asks her why she's so upset and she says, of her mom, "she stabbed my dad." The girl and her mother, who has since shown up, have an argument about whatever happened with her father, and the girl gets increasingly upset. The cam then goes dark for about two minutes and we just hear the girl screaming that she wants her father. When the visual comes back, there are six cop cars on the street, the girl has had her arms twisted behind her and been handcuffed, and she's being pushed into the back of the police car, while the main officer says, "I wanna take mom to jail too."

Ex-policeman in Ohio charged in shooting of unarmed Black man

A former policeman has been charged with murder for the shooting death of an unarmed Black man in the US state of Ohio.

The killing of Andre Hill shortly before Christmas in the city of Columbus sparked a new wave of protests in the United States against police brutality towards African Americans.

Adam Coy, the white police officer who shot the 47-year-old Hill on December 22, was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday, officials said.

North Carolina Cops Host Small Party With White Guys Who Broke Into Black Woman’s Apartment

What Shanay Porter discovered when she came home to her apartment in Raleigh, North Carolina, last week would horrify most people, especially a woman who lives alone: Her door was open, and inside two strange men were chilling in her living room. They'd helped themselves to her food. They were wearing her ex-boyfriend's clothes. One of them had even used her shower.

Shocked, Porter simply said, “Who are you?" When one of the men came toward her, she quickly closed the door.

"I just looked at him and said, 'who are you?' And he started coming toward me and I hurried up and closed the door," Porter said. "I didn't know what to think or what to say. I was so speechless. I've never seen anything like this before."

Porter called 911, and the police soon arrived. Hooray! Unfortunately, the officers didn't respond with the urgency you might expect. This is when we reveal the less-than-shocking plot twist that Porter is Black and the men who broke into her home are white.
