Your Instant Turn-Offs

Here are a few of mine....most of which have already been mentioned.

1. Bad Manners/Being rude (one good example is when you are walking through a busy mall and people walking towards you do not even attempt to get out of your way *especially younger guys*......they expect YOU to move out of the way  )

2. People who can't spell simple words in chat or emails (also using abbreviated chat). Do they just not take the time to correct their mistakes, did they not learn to type properly, or do they really NOT KNOW how to spell??

3. When people in Lit can't use the QUOTE function correctly.

4. Using hip-hop slang

Women who think it is cute to fart in bed...

Nothing kills morning wood faster than a loud fart!

Very good original question.

hmmm....Let's see...

I'm a pretty laid-back person, and there aren't too many things that really bother me. But, as everyone was pitching in a few things, I'll have a go at it.

Some are things people have already mentioned:

Inability to communicate well.

Excessive use of slang (we all have slang we like, but...ALL the time?)

Excessive use of abbreviations in chat.
(very first thing mentioned, and I agree with it. I don't let it bother me, but I tend to shake my head at it. If I'm chatting with someone, they're going to type hundreds, if not thousands of characters. Are you really worried about saving 4 characters if you type "How R U?" rather than "How are you?")
Note: In an attempt to be completely fair, if you're a "hunt and peck" typist, and trying to say hello quickly, maybe "How R U?" is that much 'faster' that it seems more polite. I'd still go for slower using the 'real' words, but that's me.

And some new items, just to be different.

People not liking / wanting a decent vocabulary. One woman I went out with informed me one evening (I can't even remember what word I'd used now) that "regular people don't use words like that, they just say [insert more commonly used word here]". Needless to say, that was pretty much that.

Seemingly random usage of their / they're / there.
OK, this is a common objection to Internet and e-mail text, and I don't let it "bother" me, but (again) I shake my head.

Suddenly ceasing contact online after exchanging pictures.
OK, this could fall under getting a tougher skin, but how hard is it to send an e-mail / note saying "Hey, you're not what I'm looking for, thanks for the interest".

Say what you mean, mean what you say.
OK, it's a commonly quoted phrase, but, dammit, some people need a refresher course in it! (This one, if you couldn't tell, actually DOES bother me :) )
I understand that things come up, real life intervenes, and someone saying, "Yes, let's get together Wednesday" may have to be scrapped without notice. That's OK. Really. Honestly. I've done it. (Felt bad about it, but life kicks in)
BUT, these should be the exceptions. Happening 10% of the time, or 20%. Yet sometimes someone saying on the phone, "OK, I'll call you tomorrow night, probably after 8" apparently means, if something else doesn't come up, if no one else contacts me to do something, and everything runs smoothly, then I'll actually be home and actually call you. But don't count on it.
My view is something like, hey, I'm not holding a gun to your head 'making' you say you'll do something. If you're busy, if you're not sure about something, say that. I respect "Hey, I'd like to do something tomorrow night, but with everything going on I don't have a clue if I can or not. Should we plan it in case, or just scrub?" That's cool. You've given me as much information as you had, and let me make an informed decision. Be honest with me, and keep me in the loop.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. You've been a great audience. Thanks. :)

Alot of mine like bad breath and use of single letter words have already been said, so I'll see if I can add some new ones of mine:

1) People who talk for hours on end about themselves without seeming to take a breath long enough for you to say anything. As interesting as you might have been 4 hours ago, I'm actively wishing for some sort of armageddon to get you to shut up. A conversation involves 2 people, fucktwit.

2) Posers. Anything from emo-goths who are suicidal because their curfew is 10 pm to wiggers and chiggers and whatnot. You don't look cool dressed up like 50 cent when you're albino. You just look stupid. Here's a thought: Individuality! So you can be unique just like everyone else!

3) People who are wayyyy out of the normal and healthy weight ranges for their height. I like women who have curves and a good body. When they look either like walking sticks or lumps of dough, it just ain't appealing to me.

4) Smokers. I'm slowly watching my mother die from cigarettes. I dislike them so much its become an almost visceral reaction for me. I was so happy when they banned smoking from all clubs in my city. I also can honestly not see the appeal of a smoking fetish.

Wow I agree with all of these!
I'll add two

1)Women who think they have to 'compete' with men for manliness. I am not talking about getting equal pay for equal work, I support that... but this modern trend that women can be more 'manly' (if you understand what I am getting at). You have to X chromosomes for a reason, DEAL! Get a sex change if you have to just pick a gender and go with it!

2) Metrosexual males: See above. :D

People who constantly use a single letter or number in place of an entire word! Example: "How R U?" or "I already 8 dinner"

What? I'm not worth the energy of typing out the entire word? Not worth the "a" or the "e" or the "y" or the "u"?

Burns my ass EVERY time!

But I'm getting over it...can't you tell?

I agree ObsidianRose...and a man with a pity party complex...ewwwww

Just pitching to the lovely {{{{DLL}}}

I'll add another to my earlier list

In Women:
Misplaced 'attitude' My next door neighbour is a single mum who seems to have a grudge against all men now she's been dumped for the umpteenth time. Rude arrogant 'I don't need a man' attitude. No wonder she's single..

Drinking to excess
In the UK there's lots of binge drinking. It's massively disgusting. I don't mind a lass who likes a drink sometimes and has the propensity to get a bit 'tipsy' and giggly, but throwing up?? Bleaugh!

In men - Not that I'm gay, just find it unappealing :)

Alpha Male Syndrome - over-competitiveness. Rude, abrasive and still following the Gordon Gekko 'How to win friends and influence people' manual.

Drinking to excess
Like it's a race. When they do - not being able to handle it. have a few. Know your limits. Always leave enough in the tank to have sex afterwards ;)

Dishonesty(will kill any feelings I have or would ever have in a heartbeat)
Avoiding things,,(Fuck,if a question was answered for pity sakes answer,,)
Laziness('nuff said)
Selfish attitude
Rudeness in general(put 2 men side by side,,one very average looking and one very good looking,,if the average looking man is nice and the good looking one rude,,,,the plain guy wins hands down)

and fence sitters.

grow some balls so it will hurt straddling that picket fence, and have an opinion. i'm going to think less of you for being ignorant and apathetic than if we have a differering of opinion...at least then i could respect you. if you're worried about being judged for having strength in your convictions or that someone will not like you simply for a differing of opinion then you need to get your fucking priorities right...i didnt realise it was more important to get laid by someone who is with you for being someone you're not than it is to be ...and forgive me for using one of my most hated cliches "true to yourself".

ahem. AP had long day lol.

Is that head bob from a block away?.......

Oh, Mark of the Cute Ass....what am I to do with you?

Let's see....

People who can not talk proper english or do not try to even learn the language.

Bitchy attitude - If you got an attitude chances are I want to punch you in your face or push you in front of a car, whatever comes first.

Dishonesty

Lack of loyalty

People that try to act cool and come off as dumbasses

People that are sheep and have no thought on their own but instead follow the crowd.

People online that use U, Y and numbers as words/letters etc.

dishonesty
manipulation
JUDGEMENTAL(ggrrrr)
hypocrite
jealousy
being joyless about EVERYTHING
foul tempered

drunks are a big one. I don't mind of a guy drinks, but if you turn into an a$$hole, then don't do it.

Guys who hit. Been there, done that, not doing it again.

Short guys. Not to discriminate against the "vertically challenged", but I am tall and I don't want some guys head smacking into my chin when we are having sex.

Fat guys.I like "husky" men, but there is a big difference between husky, and just plain huge.

Guys with no personality.

The biggest turn off? Guys who think they are God's gift to women and think they are great in bed, but turn out to not know what in the hell they are doing.

The Biggest Turn Off

Missing a 1st date...no excuse..LOL we havn't even met yet..sorry no call backs from me..LOL bye bye

people who wear socks with sandals. Can't stand it, total turn off. Or, people who come over for a quick ummm lunch date and take off all their clothes, except their socks. That is another to get me out of the mood. Maybe it's a sock problem I have. :)
Cheers,
Dread.

Ooooh, I HATE socks and sandals! Good one. Also hate "man sandals".

Another......people who refer to themselves in the third person, i.e. "ObsidianRose don't play that."
