Day 6: A song from a boy band

Gah. Not a boy band guy. Never have been, even when I was a kid. Jackson 5 and Osmonds were so big, they had Saturday morning cartoons. I didn't even like those. Hated the resurgence in the 90s, and can't get into J-pop and K-pop. Just not my speed. And for this thread, I have a personal "Rule 2" that I have to know the song beforehand, and like it at least somewhat. Skip a day? I can't. Then I remembered these guys.

He was my daughter's first crush when she was about eight or so, and he was twelve. She was playing baseball, and he was in Little League as well, so he and a couple other neighbor boys were teaching her to hit. She called them her "silly boys," and she was just like Sally following Linus around. He was a good kid, a really sweet kid, and could sing with the best of them. Ended up on American Idol, and made it to the Top 10. Got hooked up with a boy band, and they had a couple of albums. They never hit huge, but they made a career out of it. And they had a sense of humor about their music. So here is to Daniel, who made my kid laugh and is part of the reason she loves baseball.

"Trust Fund Baby," Why Don't We

Day 6: A song from a boy band

This boy band formed in the late 90s. I didn’t know of them then. I was too busy kissing my computer screen to pictures of the Backstreet Boys (true story- you could put the Backstreets Back CD in the computer and get the lyrics and bonus photos of the band. My friends and I would take turns kissing screen when it was a photo of our favorite band member).
I stumbled across Westlife a few years ago on a random playlist. I didn’t know this was a boy band reunited type thing. I unironically love this song.
I even use a clip of the chorus-altered a bit- to sing to my daughter every time I get her up from a nap. I sing:
Hello, my love
I’ve been searching for a baby like you
For most my life
I’ve been searching for a baby like you

Westlife - Hello My Love

I had never heard of them but I enjoyed your story and the tune was fun (good for one listen anyway 😂). Thanks for sharing!

Okay, this is just incredibly sweet.

I would laugh at that, but I also remember being in elementary school and kissing a picture of Jody Foster in a Scholastic magazine. She grew up lovely, and I think she and I still might have a chance together! What?

Day 6 a song from a boy band

I almost posted this song with a rant about why I hate it’s lyrics but I went a different direction. Lucky for me, you posted it so I can rant in response! 😜

So the lyrics of this song are all about how the woman is insecure and somehow her insecurity is what makes her beautiful. I hate this concept. If it said that she’s insecure but despite that he still loves her and wants to show her how beautiful she is and wants her to love herself the way he does, great! But instead it says “that’s what makes you beautiful.” 😤
That’s all; short rant.

To be fair, though, the song is catchy as fuck and I can’t help but sing along.

Heh, that was part of why I chose the song I did:"Her daddy taught her how to fix cars/maybe she can fix me."

I like this one! Adding to playlist

Still don’t like this. Fix yourself, boy! Get a therapist. That independent woman doesn’t want to fix you. 😂

Soooo.... You're John Hinckley! Tsk tsk, doxing yourself like that. Rookie move!

I agree the rythm of the song is what gets to me ... Stays in my mind. As for the lyrics, I do find women that do not think of themselves as beautiful very attractive. 😉

April missing decades I have these on Vinyl - hope you enjoy

Day 6: A song from a boy band

The late 90s saw a veritable ocean of boy bands pop up. In Sweden, two of them were ahead of all others; Backstreet Boys and Five. If you were lame you listened to BSB, but, if you were cool like I was then you listened to Five.
That's because Five were the bad boys.
They wore dark clothes and rapped.
So cool 😍

Five - If ya getting Down

(holy shit this is so much worse than I remember 🤣)
But what if you were listening to both? Did the lameness and coolness balance each other out to neutral?
