🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

Day 30: A song that was or should be used in a scary movie

I had a song all picked out, but realized I had used it when I was first posting here. I have a lot of rules that I hold for myself with the Challenge, and one is to try to never reuse a song. Bother...wait, what else is on this soundtrack?

Oh yeah, him....

Timmy Cappello is the original "sexy sax" man, the poster boy for excessive sax usage. This comes not only from his appearance, which is striking, but mostly from an SNL sketch. But Cappello has been a studio and touring keyboardist and saxist for both Peter Gabriel and Tina Turner, and you don't get that job if you can't play.

Originally a song by the amazing, criminally unsung Santa Cruz band The Call, "I Still Believe" as done by Timmy adds his growling saxaphone to a lead bassline and simple yet driving, drums. It is a very solid cover, and is used to great effect in The Lost Boys, at the beach concert where we finally have Michale meet his love intrest. That would be David, not Star...

It's doesn't have "creepy kids singing Old Testament verses," but it is still pretty great...

"I Still Believe," Timmy Cappello

"For people like us
In places like this
We need all the hope
That we can get..."

That wraps up another decades week!
If you got +7 for the week, you earned yourself a second song pass.

I’d like everyone to think about their favorite prompts that we’ve done this year and reply to this post letting me know which one(s) you loved and would like to see again.
I really liked the TV show theme song one and I had a really good idea for it that I have utterly forgotten.

I generally really like the prompts that make us think of specific events or people. Songs about our childhoods, crushes, weddings, children, etc. I like all the prompts, but those ones are a bit more meaningful.

Also, if anyone is having trouble remembering what prompts we've done, here's a list.

edit: (uploaded a new version oriented so that the dates didn't get cut off)

🎉🍾🥳🍻We made it a whole year!🍻🥳🍾🎉

I started this thread on November 1st of 2023 and we’ve completed 12 rounds of challenges. I’m going to post more of my thoughts tomorrow with my song for the day, but I just want to say thank you to everyone who posts here, regularly or spontaneously. You’re all (ok, most) wonderful.

Day 31: You can dedicate a song to someone on the thread, post a song that relates to this thread, or post a song that reminds you of the lit community (Would also love if you’d share a little about when and how you found this thread and what’s kept you here!)

I popped into the thread back in February, very quickly after migrating over from the Authors Hangout and into the Playground, and I don't think I've missed more than a handful days ever since!

My first post talked about my love for strange art and weird music, and gosh have I found some oddities in here. I love love love seeing things on here that counter the zeitgeist of the chosen theme or date, people have such diverse tastes and I. AM. HERE FOR IT!

My choice for today would have to reflect our mixed bag of people, of tastes, of issues and problems and joys and successes! We're all a little bit broken, but we fit together perfectly because of it. 💕
Here's to another year of ups and downs!

no christmas cards to send

I love you! ❤️ You're my favorite Swede here. (Sorry to all the other Swedes in this thread. I love you all too.)

Day 31

Happy thread-versary!

This wasn’t the first thread I posted to but it’s the first thread I posted to that had a community around it and the first thread I posted to that I still post to.

(So I mean really, everyone, in a way, you have @morelikeasong to blame for *gesticulates wildly* me)

Art of any sort is such a wonderful thing to commune and bond over. Music especially is so integrally woven into most of our lives, the power it has over memory and emotion is such a wonderful thing. I love how welcoming this thread is. How thought provoking it can be. How it’s a place to share one’s joy more than argue or defend it. How even when people post way too long an entry and I roll my eyes as I scroll past all the words (I’m not looking at you @vagrantx and @UnquietDreams….okay…maybe a little bit hear me out). I love how even though those posts ain’t MY JAM they’re plenty of others. And that’s wonderful.

I think more than any other thread I frequent this is the one where there really is something for everyone who wants to participate.

I recognize and appreciate all the hard work you put into this thread @morelikeasong and I’d be saying all of this even if I didn’t also happen to think you’re one of the hippest litsters out there.

Thanks for welcoming me. Thanks for being you. Thanks for this space.

I’m going back to sleep now. Morning morn.
