2008 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

According to the rules of Lit., "Group Sex" is three persons or more. They don't want to split things too finely and have "Threesomes" and "Foursomes" as separate categories. There are 35 categories now, and they don't want to add any more. Personally, I think they could break "Loving Wives" into two categories, one of them "Cuckholds" and the other "Husbands and Wives". That's just my opinion, but many have similar thoughts.

/rant on:
What is the point of e.g. "Illustrated, Audio, Novella" categories? Any of them could actually be other true categories in disguise. Instead of categories, I think they should be attributes we could check as a further description of the FORMAT of the story, NOT its content. /End Rant

Erin, I'd do a tongue sticky-outy thing if I knew how, at the "stop boasting" comment :) lol.

The categories are a little confusing. One of the series that I was working on involved a Latino male and a white female; I categorized it as Interracial. I was told it wasn't really Interracial because their races weren't part of the story. Not quite sure I understood what they meant, nor how to make it more "Interracial", but if I ever write any more of that series I'm still going to put it in that category, since the characters are two different races and the Lit powers-that-be went along with it being in that category.

I've seen stories in some categories that are longer than some of the ones in the "Novellas" category, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And I agree with LitEroCat that the Audio and Illustrated don't really seem to be separate categories, just different ways of doing the stories. Okay, that was clearer before I typed it...

I think "Fivesomes are the new threesomes" would be a good jumping-off point for a story; anyone want it?

Illustrated includes pictures; audio includes a sound recording and a novella is anunusually long story. You are right in saying that they could be any subject. Write a story about a Chinese and a white lesbian couple who use a strapon. That could fit in three different categories - IR, Lesbian or T/M. Just decide where it fits the best.

I will always try to put a story in the category where I think it belongs. I have a series about Angel Jones, a beautiful T-girl, and the parts are all in the TS/CD category. They are all about 10,000 words or more, and could fit in Novella, but I think they belong where I put them.

I was just thinking that the other day when pondering what my next illustrated poem should be.

I think the Interracial category requires that the difference in race be integral to the story - like how they get together despite people frowning on them, or how one has always wanted to be with a white/black/asian/indian/whatever.

I don't get Novels either - either all chapter stories should go in Novels or it should be abolished, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure about that. I have posted some IR stories where the difference was not of any consequence. The most recent was "Glorious Glory Hole" earlier this year. I only post to that category if the only alternative is E/C.

My most recent story was about a 20 yo woman using a strapon on her father's ass while some friends of hers were in the closet watching. I wanted to post it in E/V but it was posted to I/T. It could also have gone to T/M.

Erin, congratulations!

Starrkers, that's what I was told by others, that the difference in races had to be integral to the story. There is some (in my mind, anyway, though it may not have translated to the computer screen) cultural difference between the characters in my story. But apparently those who approve the stories felt that it fit the category. Or they didn't notice it enough to move it. lol.

hello all,

Yeah I find I'm struggling when I write a story to make sure that it goes into a specific category and isn't moved somewhere else. Now it doesn't matter if it's moved I just have a goal to write a certain number of stories in a certain number of categories.
I end up writing over the top stories just to make sure.

Oh my loving wives story is getting bashed with negative comments. I wonder when I should tell my readers that I agree it's a horrible story line and that I agree with their comments about wimp husbands, cheating wives, etc.

Erin

LW stories are always bashed. :( If you write about slut wives and wimp husbands, both will be denounced. If you write about cuckholded husbands, the wives will be denounced, as will their lovers. If you write about loving couples, a different group of people, those who like to read abot slut wives and wimp husbands, will complain. I like to write stories in the category because I enjoy rerading the PC they generate, and I am less concerned with the scores.

Besides that, I like to live dangerously. ;)
BTW, congratulations on filling all categories, especially since it was almost all done with stories rather than immunities. Only a few authors manage to do that in any given year. I probably won't manage it this year.

I don't agree with the editor's Carte Blanche power to arbitrarily move stories to another category without the writer's consent. I'd rather they reject it and give us the option to change it, dispute their points or accept the move.

That said, I still feel LIT is the best site with the best standards.

On your other point, I'm struggling with a similar problem with my Subway Slut story. That other site provides a big space for author comments and teasers, but here we have to include comments in our story. I suppose I could write a REVIEW of my own tale so I can elaborate on comments.

I've pretty certainly decided my comments should NOT be in a post script if only because that dilutes the punch of the ending. I want the reader to be left to consider the point I make, not my comments about the story.

I'm currently leaning toward a PRE script comment similar to this:
My muse insisted I write this story, even against my wishes. I can only presume it serves a purpose I can't yet detect. Perhaps it will help persuade someone to avoid either of the situations that led to the suffering portrayed. If it speaks to YOU or helps you in some way, please let me know. Lois, my muse, would love the chance to stick her tongue out and say 'I told you so!', AGAIN.

I came close, but avoided an outright apology. What do YOU think?

The editors are all volunteers, and have no authority to do anything. Even the changes they suggest in a story are just suggestions, and can be rejected by the author who wrote it. Laurel and Manu are the ones who accept or reject a story and decide what category it belongs in.

Never apologize for anything you write, except maybe for racial slurs or something in the dialogue. However, it might be a good idea to include a CAUTION in front of the story if it differs from what you usually write, or if some might find it offensive.

Most of what I write is stroke, and most who favor my stories expect that. If I write something dark, such as actual rape, as oppposed to role-playing, or other stories with unhappy endings, I want to warn readers of that fact.

Lit - That little blurb sounds fine. If you put it in non consent I might not even say anything since most people assume something extreme in that category anyways.

Box - Thanks. I have 68 more stories to write and I'm done for the year. Well then a novel in November too.

Yup- that's where they were going. If I have to combine Ch 1 & 2 to get them published, I'll probably put IT into 'Novella' since Ch 1 is over 5400 words alone.

Thanks, BOX, I guess that should be the MODS, not editors. :(

Good evening.

Lit - don't put it in Novels unless it's 7500 words - it won't count for the contest. If you're writing a story that long you might as well make it count.

My poor editor is sick and starting school and must watch football so I have a backlog of stories to be posted.

On an exciting note I am ranked #53 in terms of favourite authors.

And yes I'm ranting. It's Saturday night and I am tired but can't fall asleep.

Erin

Merci, Ch 2 is about 5000 words too. So the total is around 10,500 words, according to Wordperfect. I'm working on the 2nd and maybe final draft.

BTW, it's Sunday here. I'm going beddy-bye. Too late for you and Lady to join me now. Besides, you guys wore me out last time! :rose: :rose:

Lit - you wouldn't want me in bed with you. I snore, talk in my sleep, thrash around and kick. Oh wait I guess if you're into pain then you'd like it :)

Erin

Actually, that sounds like a lot of unn, especially the thrqashing about and kicking. :)

Erin

I had a GF whose snores rattled the doors and windows. Her exhales fluttered the sheets. She wasn't too bad about thrashing, but my eardrums were sore.

But I didn't say we'd SLEEP anyway.

First Time Category

Erin, thank you for your comments on my stories. As per your latest comment on Patient Love, I did submit it as First Time, and for some reason it was put into Erotic Couplings. I sent Laurel a PM to ask her why. Perhaps, someone here knows why it would go into that category instead of First Time.
