2008 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

You didn't mention anything about all your PM's I posted here, Erin. Did you forget that you wrote those? Did you forget that you stalk me? Did you forget that you are a fucking insane bitch?
Did you read back, Boston?

There are no PMs for Erin to read.

First you give me a anonymous 1 bomb, then you post a glowing comment with a higher score.

1 bombs are from readers, not authors. Any author who has participated in any contest knows that 1 bombs disappear when they do sweeps. So, if an author wanted to hurt your score, they would give you a 2, not a 1.

There are trolls out there that occassionally fling 1 bombs. For awhile, every new story I posted was 1- bombed at least once... not that it matters.

Good Morning!

:)

So, how is everyone?

Has anyone else had problems with cords for laptops from Dell? This is my 2nd replacement cord in 2 years. The wire was visible through the rubber covering at the one connection in the original cord. The second cord frayed at the end that plugs into the laptop.

While I was waiting for the new cord, I was left with my spare laptop (which is actually newer than this one, but not as good). I don't write stories on that laptop. It doesn't even have MSWord. So, I've gotten a few emails from readers who are getting impatient for the next chapter of my Mind Control series. I'll have to get back to work before they break out the whip (though that could be fun).

How are you all doing? My new class started last week. The professor seems a tad anal-retentive. His syllabus was 30 pages long! His guidelines for papers include rules like: "No contractions!"

That class should keep me pretty busy. Besides the fact that I have a new assignment from my client. I'm just happy to be done writing foot health articles. I was running out of topics.

Hi Lady. I'm pretty good, things seem to be looking up for us, though I'm not counting chickens just yet ;)

The only problem I have with laptop cords is my cat likes the play with them! But I don't have a Dell.

No contractions? That'd kill me!

My daughter and I are often scolding the cat for playing with the laptop cord.
"Bad for kitty!" LOL

Which reminds me... where's kitty????

Sorry... I just realized that all the comments I left for someone have been deleted. I wonder how long that took to do. I mean I spent a good amount of time reading their poems and stories. I seriously need that much time on my hands.

Erin

Seems he's deleting all comments on his latest chapters, unless he's written them. Though I did notice a couple on his early instalments that I seriously doubt came from his keyboard.

Yeah, my scores bounced up a couple of days ago too.

This morning they're all down again. How odd. Wonder if it had anything to do with my above comment? I mean, my scores only fell with this latest BOSTONFICTIONWRITER brouhaha.

No, couldn't be. Freddie doesn't stoop that low *cough*bullshit*cough*

Really? I've never tried to leave anonymous feedback.

I think you can vote more than once only if you've got multiple IDs. I do know that once you've voted the stars stay gold, it's handy in competitions so you know who you've voted or already.

I have a bunch of stories that sit just above or just below 4.5 as well. And another bunch that have less than 20 votes, so any 1 hits them hard.

I don't worry about it anymore.

I know what the people who actually read them think of the them. The petty jealousies of less than stellar writers with their heads stuck up their asses really don't concern me. And I know that's what's lowering my scores, because they keep rising again.

One seems hell bent on trashing my name and reputation on this site if at all possible, but even if he does manage it, I'll just change my writing alias so he can't find my stories anymore.

My scores are down again. I don't have time to keep track of the number of votes but considering some of my scores were 4.52 and 4.56 it would take a lot of 1's to drop the score down alot.

There is only one red H left and thats for a story that got 4.59.

Anyways I'm not upset that I don't have any red H's. What I'm upset about is the fact that I did have them at one point. I mean I have a lot of stories that aren't anywhere near to 4.5 but thats fine. I know they aren't good stories. I just thought it was nice that the readers on this site believed that certain stories of mine were good.

Now with the scores dropping I know it's one or two people doing this on purpose. I mean regular readers don't have time to revote on my stories.

The other strange thing is that I can only vote once on a story. Once I vote I can't revote so I'm curious as to how other people do that. As well, I can only leave a registered comment, I'm not allowed to leave any anonymous feedback. I tried but it didn't let me.

Anyways I'm working on my Halloween story at the moment which is fun. Back to writing.

Erin

I may be mistaken, but I believe that, if a vote has been swept, that same person can vote again, because there would be no record of their vote having been cast. I have one story that had 11 votes, and was at the top of the TS & CD category. Somebody hit it with a one-bomb and it sank. This happened six times, and each vote was swept away.

Nobody, except management, seems to know exactly how the voting works. I think it is computer and ISP combined. On any one computer, a person can vote only once. If you have two computers on the same ISP, you may be able to vote more than once, but I doubt it. If you go and use somebody else's computer, there would probably be no way for the site software to identify somebody if they don't sign in.

I have a laptop and a desktop and it doesn't matter which one I use, if I've voted for a story it shows as voted for on either machine. They are linked on a home network, don't know if that's a factor, though.

Starr, your attitude is wonderful. I think you should be looked up to and not shot down.
 ah, gee, Dani, thanks, but I don't think I'm anything special.

I just try to operate by the fine Aussie concept of not letting the bastards grind me down (sometimes more successfully than others).

It's those people who don't really think they are anything special who always come out to be the winners and the true friends in the end...

I just read a great little story. Short and bittersweet. Lost love and all that.

It's in non-erotic and it's called Aileen.

Sadly, the author has turned off voting.

Hello. My laptop is a used laptop I got for $450. It's an HP and I want it to last at least a year.

Yes Lit has been quiet. Probably re working his subway slut story.

My kids are driving my crazy at school. They are so immature. Blah. Oh well. I haven't written anything in over a week I've been so tired and busy.

Erin

LIT hasn't seen a notice of new posts here since 9/9. And he has been hacking [coughing & wheezing, NOT computor] for over a week with all the other fun stuff. He says he's chasing his eyes and nose [cuz they be running!].

He's also been switching from his DELL C600 to a D600 laptop which he got on ebay for $256.

I'll tell him you asked about him when I think he should know!

You can't tell that unless you have 2 ISPs. I'd bet they depend on COOKIES. When I wipe them out, I'm not automatically logged on either.

Lady, here's a tip that will cure your cord problem or at least greatly extend their lives: use electrical tape to tightly wrap the part that bends sharply, usually at the laptop end. If the power connector isn't too big, or if the other end unplugs, you can get some 'shrink wrap' and slide it over the tape if you used it. Use any heat source to warm and shrink it.

You can also keep pets and rodents away from them if you spread some cayenne pepper into a non petroleum paste and slather parts of the cord in it. They HATE it.

Is it illegal to whip your muse even when she DOESN'T like it? I'll keep a eye on her so she doesn't post for me again.

I've had the same issue with the cord for my Dell. Very frustrating. And they are not cheap to replace. I found a website online to purchase from rather than from the local stores around here. I feel for you.:(
