2009 News & Views: Discussions and Announcements for the Survivorphile

ScoreBoard has been updated and all needed score cards have been created. Sorry it took so long on the board update, but life has been incredibly chaotic here the past few months. Things are looking up, and I promise that from now on, things will get updated more quickly.

Just a heads up that we've only got a little over a month left for new entrants. After October 31, the contest will be closed to entry.

As always, if anyone has questions, please either post them here or send me a pm!

Thanks, Crim, and you don't need to apologize for anything. You have your own life and a family, and we know this strictly unpaid volunteer work takes up a lot of your time as it is.

Yeah no worries about the scorecard not being updated daily or anything. Obviously real life has to come first and formost.

Has anybody else been having a hell of a time with the Censor Gods this year? I'm not sure if I should be pissed that they are holding us to a higher standard than real porn, annoyed that they are nitpicking or just flatter them on growing brains but I swear I've written like seven First Time stories and best case scenario is they get shunted into another category but more likely they just get rejected. The basic explanation I've gotten after asking a few times is "There are no 18 year old virgins in this country, certainly none that live with their parents. Ergo your story is about minors and cannot be posted on Lit. We welcome you to submit your story to a site that accepts stories about minors." Its beginning to get frustrating.

I haven't had any problem at all for quite a while. A couple of years ago, I wrote a story about a woman who had gotten married at 16 and what happened on her wedding night. This was accepted but, when I later submitted an edited version, it was rejected because of the underage sex. Since then, I have always made a point of mentioning the young person having passed his or her 18th birthday. No problems since then.

You don't have to mention it directly. You can mention something about voting for the first time or being in college or having received a legacy on her 18th birthday or having an unlimitrd drivers' license. It really shouldn't be a problem.

You can meke references to past sexual experiences, as long as there is no description of them.

RE Literotica Rejections

I too have received a few rejections lately although most were in the Erotic Horror and Non Consent Categories. Both of these venues have a fine line between what is expected and what is allowed and after rereading I realized I had crossed that line. I also have had a couple of stories filed under a different category than I selected and I felt it was more of a 'potato, patahto' decision than anything else. All in all I'm very happy with our crew here and I can't believe how they put up with our drivel for so little return. So rather than complain I will only say thank you and keep up the good work.
Regards, Bakeboss

Something occurred to me today about something some of us should watch out for. If you are at the point where you have three stories in a category, there is something to remember. Management chooses the category in which a story is posted. Usually, they will take the author's sugggestion, but they don't always do so.

This could be a problem if you have three stories in one category, and another story is assigned to that same category. You will not be able to count that story on your scorecard unless you manage to fill every category with three entries or an immunity.

In other words, for an example, if you have three incest stories and one anal, and you write about a brother and sister having anal sex, it will probably be posted in incest, and you probably will not be able to count it on your scorecard. If you have three lesbian stories and you write about two women sharing a strapon and try to post it to Toys and Masturbation, it will probably be posted to Lesbian, and you will not be able to count it on your scoresheet.

Of course, you can write whatever you want. Personally, I am here to write dirty stories and winning contests might not even be as high as secondary. If my muse wants me to write a story about two gay men and I I already have three stories in that category, I will write it anyhow, even if I don't get to count it.

Curious...are things slower than usual for this time of year? I know that last year the winners wrote something like 300 stories, but I will be lucky to cap out level 1 in all categories this year. Real life sucks, but I am proud of what I accomplished just by taking part.

I think it's the new rules that are keeping the score low. In the past, some authors used to fill all the poetry categories with ten poems and write fifty or sixty stories or chapters in some other categories. Besides that, immunities no longer count for a score. :D

Now that we need an immunity or three entries in every category before we can include more than three anywhere, the scores are lower. Eliminating brief chapters from most of the categories helps too.

I first competed in 2003, and the winner that year had just over 200, while second place was about 170, so we will beat those scores easily.

Box made some good points. It's also possible that not everyone has updated score cards, and they have many more stories than what is currently showing on their cards.

I don't think so. We might have some sand baggers though. Granted I've only been perusing the top five or so people but it I'm not seeing a lot of people who haven't updated their score cards reasonably well. I could be wrong though or watching the wrong person. Or heck there might be some guy at the bottom who's just never updated at all.

Two years ago the first place winner was a guy who posted a lot of stories during the course of the year and entered the contest in December. He filled his scorecard with all the stories and it was enough for him to win. He took everybody by surprise. That 's why the deadline to enter the contest is Oct. 31 now.

Personally, I consider sandbagging to be unethical, although it is not against the rules. That's why I would never do it.

Three years ago I did that same thing and landed like seventh place. I know all to well about the ninja technique. And like I said you could acheive much the same goal by simply NOT updating your score card all year. I mean how many people are in this contest? Fifty? Sixty? I doubt anybody is checking more than the immediate competition. So as long as you aren't in prize territory you may as well be the guy who entered December 31st cus nobody even knows your there.

If I had one complaint about the current rules its that I really wish that the audio and illustrated portions were eliminated since I'm sure I'm not the only person finding them to be huge stumbling blocks but hey it's still a blast. I have to admit overall the new rules worked much better than I expected.

ScoreBoard has been updated. Most are whatever scores your cards held yesterday, since I did most of the checking yesterday evening.

Posting on Scoreboard

I have 41 points. How can I show that on the scoreboard. I have filled out my scorecard.

CrimsonMaiden usually updates the scoreboard; the contestants don't do it. She checks the individual scorecards and updates the board when she has the opportunity to do so.

Crim does a lot around here and in her offline life, so it sometimes takes a little while for the board to be updated, but rest assured all scores do get counted.

As Karenna pointed out, the scoreboard is updated by a mod (me). I try to do it weekly, but sometimes real life gets in the way, and it doesn't get done as often as I'd like. Since we are closing onto the end of the contest, I will be doing my best to keep it updated on a regular basis. Once I do the next update (sometime this week), your score will be listed in the appropriate place on the scoreboard.

We are in the home stretch of this year's contest. Please take a moment to refresh your memory on the information regarding last minute submissions and deadlines for having your scorecard completed (all of which are found in the rules post). Good luck to all!

Where is that info? I don't recall any special rules other than it had to be this year.

The rules post states information needed for last minute submissions if you want to make sure they are posted within the deadline. It also states the dates for submissions allowed and when your scorecard must be completed.

Was just a friendly reminder for everyone so any last minute submissions get posted on or before the 1st and so everyone knows when they must have their scorecard filled in.

Another stupid question...

So the story I am writing for the Holiday contest has taken a couple of odd twists. First of all, it is fast approaching novella length. And secondly, it seems to have spun off a completely separate idea (my confession...my husband has me watching too many SG-1's with their alternate universes). My question is...I know that we can submit more than one story to the contest. But if we do, is it the first story that is accepted that counts or do we get to pick which story to count towards the contest points and which to use for a category? Obviously, I need the two points for the novella. So do I have to submit the other one first in order for it to count towards the contest category?

I don't believe there is anything specific in the rules, so you can allocate them as you see fit. :) I hope you know that Dec. 7 is the last day to have a story posted in the contest - not submit it, but have it posted - and today is the third, so you are running out of time.

Why not wait until after the seventh, and allocate whatever stories you enter in the contest so the score is the most advantageous.

Thanks Boxlicker. Thankfully after almost a month of moving and being away from the computer both of these stories seem to just flow from my soul. I will probably finish the first one tonight and the other tomorrow. They always seem so nice about posting contest stories quickly too. Good luck and congrats.
