Are you seriously going to use the JFK assassination findings to prove your point? We all know that courtrooms are not the place for science, any more than a lab is a place for religion. I suppose you also think OJ didn't kill his ex-wife and her boyfriend? Or that Michael Jackson isn't a pedophile? A lawyer's sole purpose is not to bring out the truth, but to defend or support his own arguments. Don't be stupid.

First the elephant hanging from a flower and now this? Come on, do a little research and hit me with something better than that.
Just because you dont want to deal with the facts that science says it can prove these things, when we all know they are physically impossible, and I use them to show your faith in science is just as wrong as you say someone's faith in God is, does not mean Im stupid.

Im using documents that have been put up to prove something by using science. Dont blame me if you cant accept it. You're just too closed minded to allow anyone else to show you your precious science can be just as flawed as someones religious faith.

Documents? Where? What documents have you cited? You've mentioned an elephant hanging from a flower and the Warren Commission. When you say "these things," what things exactly are you talking about? Please cite specific examples of when scientists, not lawyers, have proved that something impossible can happen. I eagerly await your next post.

In the meantime, read this web site for more information on the Kennedy assassination, specifically this page about the Single Bullet Theory.

And for the record, I never said you were stupid because you believe in god. The way you're trying to argue your side of this debate is what's stupid, Stupid.

This is what you said:

... and what that says to me is that anyone who does take the time to study and understand the bible will come away with only a single view of it's meaning. I submit that no one can read this fairy tale and come away with the same meaning as anyone else. The vagaries are such that two people could read the same passage and it would mean two wildly different things to each of them. Of course, it also depends on who has done the translation and, since most people can't read the flowery language so often used, who has supplied the Cliffs Notes copy in the sidebars.

I do see your point, and to an extent I agree. There is a lot that is vague in the bible, and if someone desires, they can interpret it as they see fit. But when looked at in context, there are only a few ways it can be interpreted. It's when people refuse to acknowledge any other forms of evidence that things become tricky. I also argue that, except for a few fundamental truths, nothingis ever interpreted only one way. It's all based on what the person believes before hand and how open-minded they are

For example, if I read a very old science text that says the Earth is flat, and then refuse to take into account scientific evidence that has since then proven otherwise, I'm keeping myself naive.

It's an impossibility, if you look at the spread of life on Earth and the actual amount of water in the planets surface for the flood to have taken place and wiped everything away. But at the time, the peoples view of the world was much smaller, so if something like this happened, they would interpret it as God drowning the world. But people who refuse to take into account the peoples general knowledge of the time are keeping themselves ignorant. For all I know, maybe there is some asshole who decides on a whim too wipe everything away and then, instead of just erasing people and starting again, he triples the water on the face of the Earth over the span of 40 days and 40 nights. I doubt it, but then I wasn't there.

And again, I'm not really refuting any measure of science, only stating that it's foolish to rule out any idea differing than currently held facts on anything.

And yeah, as soon as someone says to me that they are a believer it does throw everything else they have to say into question. Not everyone gets the same level of contempt, however. I think that most people will say they believe in god only because that's what they think they're supposed to say or that's what they've always been taught to say. It's only that these people haven't taken the time to think about it that they still call themselves religious, but when you really put the screws to them they admit that they don't really believe they are going to heaven or hell after they die. (Besides, even people who do believe have usually done so many things that will get them an express ticket to eternal damnation that you have to question their loyalty to the faith.)

And that strikes me as being just as close-minded as the asshole baptist church I went to as a youth when I visited my grandparents. Any suggestion to them that you didn't believe in every aspect of the bible would immediately throw you and your opinions into question and they would refuse to concede anything. Even if you explained that homo erectus was not the same thing as a monkey, and maybe the Garden of Eden was symbolic, as the Earth was much older than that.

I don't doubt that a lot of people, when grilled, probably find it easy to renounce religion. Most churches are antiquated and vicious, and in this day and age, it's easy to see those faults. But remember, there's a difference between faith and religion. Faith is simply belief in what can't be proven. This can include God, the current theorems on matter traveling at the speed of light, practical applications of quantum energy, that I'll get a promotion tomorrow, etc.
Religion, on the other hand, throws dogma around trying to detail what you can and can't believe/do. Don't assume every person that believes in God to be religious.

Okay, I'm through arguing this. I can't do it anymore. I think I've said everything I need to say and I'm pretty sure anyone who reads this thread will likely know where I'm coming from. I firmly stand by anything and everything I've written.

Religious debates are silly.

First off I personally don't believe in god, and secondly if there is a God right now I feel that he does not deserve to be worshipped by the people of this Earth.

I think that the people who have beliefs along the lines of that "Answers from Genesis" website (there was a link to it earlier in this thread) need to be put in an institution for being backward. I really don't think that there are many of these people in the world, but I feel sad that someone can be brainwashed so easily.

The group of people who believe in god and jesus dying on the cross for the sins of mankind, but still understand that the bible does not hold all of the answers for the world are mostly useful people. The problem is that they are waiting for a god who hasn't really done much for his people in two thousand years. In modern times god has let wolves run loose amongst his sheep, and is doing nothing about it. So maybe there is no god or maybe he just doesn't care about us.

I think it's really funny that you made these two posts in a row.

None of the poll answers work for Buddhists - maybe you could add another option? I would like to suggest:

"I used to think I was an atheist, but I was wrong..."

:)

He wasn't interested in discourse, only pointing out how wrong everyone else was. And you're the same as everyone else who believes in a God, apparently.

Oh? How so? Please enlighten me....

How retarded is that statement? You see, the idea that I don't believe in god isn't because I feel I was wronged in some way by an old guy floating in the clouds, it's because there is no god.

But you are right; everything does happen for a reason. Planes crash because of pilot error or metal fatigue. Tidal waves wipe out entire populations because the earth's crust shifts every now and then and sends huge shock waves through the ocean that rise up and flood vast stretches of coastline. Babies die at an early age because of genetic defects brought on by smoking during pregnancy or by taking prescribed drugs that have unforeseen side effects. And every now and then someone gets the idea that his family needs to die by his own hand because some unseen power told him to do it.

Of course, that unseen power could also tell that guy that he needs to start weeding out the heretics and then you have The Inquisition.

"If you're so righteous and godly, what the fuck are you doing on a porn board?"

Wow... thanks. I would have done that but I couldn't give two squirts of piss either way.

So, when you're (not your) talking to someone do you sometimes use the wrong word and just not correct yourself, because you "[don't] give two squirts of piss either way?" I mean, do you use a word that has a totally different meaning than the word you meant to say? I'm curious because I've never been that fucking lazy and I need to know what your friends think when they hear your (not you're) gibberish in conversation.

I love how people get so defensive when you point out mistakes and then they go on the attack. Like it's my fault you're (not your) an idiot.

When you tell this religious freak that he's a hypocrite for being on a porn board, don't you think he's looking at your post and thinking, "That guy can't even spell. Fuck him." Think about what kind of impression you're (not your) making.

Or don't think about it and keep showing people what a lazy fuck you are. I hear the ladies love that.
