Comment on 2 - clearly a lot of work went into this, I always respect that. I also was amused by the background because I think I recognize it from a museum mock-up of Edison's laboratory? :D One technical issue is that the lighting on the drawing seems to be a lot brighter than the lighting on the background, maybe darkening the drawing or lightening the background would make it look like it fit together a bit better, although it's not jarring the way it is. A Pygmalion and Galatea story is always cute, but I'm not sure this captures that emotion as strongly as it could - can't really see the inventor's face from this angle, and the gynoid is missing enough pieces to be a little creepy, although she has a nice facial expression. That little detail with the dripping is interesting, I like that.

Comment on 1 - I really like the concept of the kept woman, and the fact that the lock has been painted-over long enough ago that the paint is crackly adds a nice implication that her existence is a long-standing secret. I spent a few moments wondering why no screw slots were visible through the paint, but then thought perhaps they were nails.

heh heh.. I really don;t think it matters too much one way or another.
we can set up a poll and ask all participants what they think.

Er... what? Did I totally misinterpret what I was looking at or something?

I do not think so.

We are at a state of pending conclusion on revealing the illustrators' identities prior to the close of the polls.

so, are we dropping the pretense of anonymous submissions?;)

You're the one who told me I ought to comment on other people's pieces if I wanted comments on mine. I'm a lot more interested in commenting on new pieces than old ones.

Yes, I stand by that.

However, then it becomes very tempting for each illustrator to respond to those comments.

That's all.

I don't mind discussing techniques and what not in depth after each contest has ended, though.

that is my opinion as well.

discussion ahead of the poll closing can (should?) influence the votes.
I am willing to dicuss the ramifications of that too.

ok so I guess I jumped the gun, I thought we were gonna discuss, sorry bout that.

I want to encourage the people who just come to vote to comment - I'd way rather have a comment than a vote.

I'll be pretty thoroughly bored of each batch of pieces by the time the voting is over, including mine, but I do want to follow whatever rules the group agrees on, not trying to be a troublemaker. So people can either wait to respond to my comments or respond to them in PM I guess. Since I already voted I don't think it matters if I get confirmation now of which artist did what.

I think we can all benefit from hearing the responses.

I also find that be continuing discussion and commentary about all the challenges can keep them a bit more "fresh".

perhaps each illustrator can post an answer to "What the hell were you thinking?"as well as "How the hell did you do that!?"

heh heh.. I had to look back and note the title "Kept".

I love the voyeurism of this one. The crackle paint too...but I do not infer the "secrecy", only an old door. I never question the nails vs screws issue.

I would have like to see a bit more attention given to the figure. The contrast of flesh vs metal and paint I think is enough... the technique need not change, in my opinion.

everyone should take a look at xssve's version.

HA!!! I did not even SEE the brick in the "black" of the negative space before! I tilted my monitor and there it was! gives more a sense of captivity.. a "prisoner" in a "cell"

my 2 cents. I would like to keep voting and art anonymous.

Would love discussion afterwards about concepts, techniques, etc..

I agree with Irezumi, we can often guess the artist pretty accurately but the secret keeps the mystery.
