However, your original post was "ack" worthy in that you defined a slave as a submissive who wanted to play that role. i think Catalina described it clearly enough so that her definition of a slave was apparent to all and i am in agreement in how she defined "slave" in relation to her life with her Master.
I think I see the rest of the misunderstandling, lara. For one thing, what I said made it look as if I was saying that a slave is just a submissive who uses another label. Not quite what I meant. I was defining a slave as a subset of submissive. All slaves are submissives but not all submissives are slaves.
Furthermore, it was too easy to misinterpret the phrase "play a role." That could easily sound as if it referred to something that was "just play-pretend" and not serious. That isn't the way I meant it at all.
I intended the phrase in the more academic sense. We all play roles. Most of us play multiple roles. I am a father, a Dom, a small business owner, an amateur magician, a writer, etc. Those are all roles I play in life and many of them are very serious.
Slave is another role. catalina_francisco plays that role. She plays it the way she believes it should be played, with utmost seriousness and dedication. Others play it differently. All they need have in common is that each has a role in their life which they believe to be the role of Slave.
While those of us on the outside of a relationship have our own means of judging and deciding what we think should qualify as a proper way to play that role, ultimately, the decision for each relationship is independent of all others. The critical basis is how the chosen way of being a slave makes the participants feel and helps them relate in a matter they, and they alone, find satisfying. The definitions matter only within the relationship.
This swings both ways. Just as there are those like the apparently casual submissive I've defined above who choose to call themselves slaves, there are those who live much as catalina_francisco does with her Master but who would be offended if you called them "Slaves." They may call themselves "serious submissives," or even (heaven help us) "real submissives." Because while the physical activity might be identical to catalina_francisco's, the headspace is different.
