There is so much more to focus on that's good. Go read my food poem from yesterday and get some ideas for dinner.

p.s. UYS I'm imagining you would look quite lovely in a collar. There may be a poem in that for me. Ta.

Heyyyy you're supposed to protect me .......Sir :D
I WAS! I do not enough info, yet to be very effective.
I agree with you that it was totally unacceptable to treat any woman like that, especially one as lovely as you, and he IS a coward hiding behind the mask of the internet.

If other people dont have anything nice to say, they should not say anything at all.

Part and parcel of the whole gender equality question is, well, equality.

In my neck of the woods, women seldom hold doors open for men, or other women for that matter. Indeed, they go through without looking about for others who might share a portal, never slowing down.

However, were a man to do that he'd be thought a cad - even by the woman who just let a door slam in his face..

M'self, I hold doors I've opened for others - whatever their gender.

There are many other areas in which our collective upbringing perpetuates disparate ideas of what's acceptable.

While it's unacceptable for most men to hit most women, should that not be prirarily a question of size and relative strength? If a 175 pound woman hits a 175 pound man, is that somehow more acceptable than the reverse? I doubt it.

If one of them has earned the Golden Glove, however, that's a cause for concern. One of my customers is a Golden Glove recipient, and I'd not want her to hit me.

I didn't see Senna attack UYS, but I suspect that such a thing would be in print over something she wrote.

That renders the participants equal, and any first blow in either direction is an attack and merits either a turned cheek or retribution.

Yes, Senna can be cruel and use words in a very unpleasant way, but males hardly have a monopoly on that.

So, is he in need of a wrist-slapping? Probably. But a coward? I'd not say so.

There are few regulations governing the use of superior intellect or linguistic skill to thrash an opponent, and in any event while Senna is indeed a smart one I firmly believe that UYS can hold her own, so may the best human win.

We cannot have it both ways.

No it wasn't anything I had written I came online to find I had been called obnoxious and small minded ... right out of the blue. Go to Dirty Thirty in Poets hangout if you want to see it. So I still reckon he's a coward and bloody unkind too to attack a woman for no reason.
Oh BTW I never burnt my bra and I open doors for everyone and you can open one for me anytime ...good manners cost nothing :rose:

Hmmm...

What with the masquing effect of the Internet, are we truly certain that Senna is indeed a man?

I'll stick to my guns about the use of the word "coward," but "he" can certainly be an ass of the first water.

Were I the recipient of his uninvited vitriol, I'd quote the fortieth President of the U.S. and reply "It takes one to know one."

On that topic, I couldn't agree more. I now move about my world with an upper appendage amputee sometimes. You'd be surprised at how many people don't notice that they've let a door go in his face or have left him to carry something without assistance. I used to put it down to their avoidance of the obvious horror we feel when we see someone who isn't whole but now, I realize that they are just plain rude for they are indiscriminate in who they ignore, make uncomfortable or fail to consider.

I have learned the hard way to look at a person when I pass by and to pause a moment to let the elderly or differently-abled beat me to the last seat on a bus or to step aside and allow them my place in line. It costs me nothing yet reaps the wonderful reward of knowing that I did my part in someone's small comfort.

What she said, in big, hairy spades!

However, "differently-abled?"

While the visually impaired tend to develop greater auditory acuity, and other disabilities can breed other compensatory skills and strengths, I chafe at this phrase.

To fail to acknowledge a thing does noone any favours. In the absence of better than OEM prosthetics, an amputation renders unto the amputee a disability.

As someone who worked throughout college with the Expediters, and who designed and prototyped the first fully functional Braille computer terminal, this is a thing about which I may speak with impunity.

That's why we make special allowances, such as the last seat or our place in line.

Politically correct is for the differently-brained.

Snood,
I do not know where you travel on Lit, but this has happened before. Senna has stepped out and ‘attacked’ one or more members and slither off without an apology or reason for the attack.
Yes, UYSpell can defend herself, but I had had enough. I was planning to quote another member on another threat that said what I was thinking and feeling, but I thought it was better to let it be known how I felt. I also hold the door open for both genders and if I see a member attacking another member (repeatedly) I will say something for both genders.

“I didn't see Senna attack UYS, but I suspect that such a thing would be in print over something she wrote.”
I take it you mean that she attacked him first. NO, she did not. I have included what she wrote and his reply from another thread. I cannot see why Senna broad-sided her.

“Yes, Senna can be cruel and use words in a very unpleasant way, but males hardly have a monopoly on that.”
I agree with the last part (I have four sisters), but this specific incident when Senna (after repeating) going after UYSpell that irked me the wrong way. Besides, there is nothing in the rules that said that I cannot verbally support her by responding to her attacker. And it is my firm belief that the member can disagree without including the personal attacks.

Have a good day.

Yes, I'm getting that. Not right at all.

I take it you mean that she attacked him first. NO, she did not. I have included what she wrote and his reply from another thread. I cannot see why Senna broad-sided her.

The only "attacks" I'd previously seen were his eviscerating poets over the merits of their prose, e.g. "Any moron could see that the tertiary thingamajig should be assonant, NOT consonant! You blithering fool..." yada yada.

I never thought that she'd attacked him, but since I'd not seen the actual incident I presumed that he'd simply treated her to one of his diatribacious critiques.

Again, he can be an ass of the first water, and were it not that he frequently gives excellent advice, albeit couched in snarky unpleasantness, I should think we'd all simply block him.

I suspect that he likes Bijou because she appreciates what he has to offer. Like any silverback, he's crotchety but also knows where the finest bananas are to be found.

Then again, UYS did seem to state that she was unapologetically obnoxious, and implied that Senna was a boring old fart. After all, he might have been talking about someone else in his initial post about small people. Myself, I'm an old fart and proud of it, but I try not to be boring.

So... who threw the first punch?

Anyway, I in no way meant to imply that UYS deserved to be attacked, or that Senna was her better. Rather, that the whole man/woman/coward question should be called into, er, question.

Now that I've seen the offending post, I'll say: Hey Senna, I weigh in at about 220, have an IQ in the mid 170's, my fist has gone through T-111 siding and I've been shot, poisoned, subjected to severe electric shock, snake-bit, stabbed, drowned been run over (literally) by an F-250 loaded with gear and fat guys et cetera coitum and shaken it all off. Further, I did very well in debate and am a member in good standing of Toastmasters International.

You wanna step outside?
