So I dunno. I saw an interesting swapmeet thread somewhere a long time ago, maybe in the authors' hangout. And I've been thinking about a poetic version, particularly lately when I've noticed I'm harping on the same images and using a particular set of vocabulary over and over.

I need new meat, linguistically speaking. So I'll trade some of the words and images I'm using too much for something you have found you're over-using. It's just a noodle on a game, but let's see what happens.

I'd like to give the following words and ideas to someone else in exchange for your overused words or themes. Maybe we can all get sparked by someone else's poetic white elephants. Here's some stuff that crops up so often in my rough drafts that I really need to get rid of it for a while. Maybe we can even work this into a White Elephant challenge. Take someone else's themes and use them in your own new way.

So of my own overused images and themes, I'll offer:

spine, bones

arch, arching, things that curve like a bow

the concept of being in a group but completely away, distracted by one's own thoughts and fantasies, and feeling like one is on another planet from everyone else.

fabric against skin; texture of various kinds of cloth

the landscape of skin and the planes of the body

Anyone got anything to swap for that, that might juice me into new directions?
