However, I am not sure I understand the relevance of these statistics. The vast majority of physical features that we idealize are uncommon. Look at any form of media or pop culture - the people there are usually rarer than 2 out of 100. That doesn't diminish our desire for the features that appeal to us.

Typically they refer to the average of all men across the world without regard to the meaningful variations by region and ethnicity.
