Canada from Eh to Zed

We're famous!

Canada on 30Rock...

Liz Lemon: "I really enjoyed watching MTV Canada with you."

Gavin Velour: "They just can't seem to get anything right up there, can they?"

:D

Did anyone see the Poutine Truck picture on Nathan Fillion's twitter account? Too funny.

Can't say I have. Link?

So, last weekend L and me drove to the "big City" to watch "Contagion" in the theater. At one point in the story, when the pandemic is wiping out swathes of the US population, a character comments on how they're running out of body bags.

"What about Canada?" another character asks.

"They said they want to wait and see what happens," the first character answers.

It wasn't a funny moment but everyone in the theater, myself included, chuckled at that.

I told my writing partner about this (he's Texan) and that my feeling was we found it funny because it was so typically "Oh let's not get excited, let's just wait and see what happens" Canadian.

He said, "No. You Canucks had your eye on some warm, southern real estate. You were just too polite to say so. That's why it was funny."

I have to admit, he's probably right. :D

I generally like those end of days, we are finally all going to be wiped out kind of movies. ...Armagedon, Independence day, the one with Will Smith were a cure for cancer inadverdently turned humans into mindless violent cannibals...
How did you find the movie? Worth the price of admission or should we wait for the DVD?

I actually really enjoyed it, though hubby didn't get quite as much out of it as I did, (probably due to lack of high speed chases and explosions). What I liked most was that it was one of the more accurate (and I do know it is only "Hollywood" accurate) portrayals of how a real pandemic might play out.

One of my biggest pet peeves with "end of days" type movies set in America is that, inevitably, the protagonist never seems to be able to find a gun - even if he/she is in NYC or LA. Seriously? You want me to believe that millions of Americans have dropped dead/been abducted by aliens/been eaten by zombies, left their houses unguarded and none of them owned a gun? Give me a break. Anyway, this movie didn't do that, in fact it did just the opposite. That alone was worth the price of admission. :D

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, to all my fellow Canadians. Hoping you've got lots to be thankful for.

Our Thanksgiving was wonderful! But dang, awoke to a frosty world this morning and I know that winter is so close. Last year was one of the worst so I'm not looking forward to the snow.

Hoping that other fellow Canadians had a great thanksgiving as well. :)

Mine was very chillaxed. Lots of reading.

BTW, Environment Canada has said the west coast of Canada should expect one of the coldest winters in 20 years this year.

May I be the first to say...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Hello and bonjour!
Fellow Canuck who is happy as heck to see this thread. Nice to see so many nice things about our great Country.
Thanks Keorin!

You are most welcome, Minalick from the neighbouring province to my left!

Got the block heater out and ready for winter? ;)

What a great thread Keroin...as another Canadian I must say thank you.

As well, you really shouldn't make comments like "The Leafs? Win? Oh please, don't ask those sorts of questions when I have a mouth full of liquid.", when I'm having my morining coffee...damn near choked when I read that.

I'm currently living on the West Coast of Vancouver Island & love the wild rugged beauty over here. However, there's a serious lacking of "fun" & strong willed men to play with here...even in Vancouver...it was filled more with yuppie-esque posers. Desperate for some fun here to keep the winter chill away.

God, we're being overrun by Canucks. Did somebody leave the gate open, again? Eh?

Ooo! I lived in Ukee for awhile. Loved it...until October, when the rain started blowing in sideways, every day, and night. But yeah, hubby and me are diehard fisher people, so we've spent a lot of time on the West Coast. If you're anywhere near Ukee, make sure you pop into Matterson House and have a bowl of their seafood chowder. OH MY COD, it's like angels orgasming in your mouth!

God, we're being overrun by Canucks. Did somebody leave the gate open, again? Eh?

Resistance is futile, eh.

Have no fear. I don't know if we are capable of overrunning anyone, DVS. We're so polite. ;)

Psst...WW, you forgot to apologize and say thank you. :D

OMG! You're right. Appreciate you helping me out like that Keroin.

DVS, my utmost apology that my fellow Canadians and myself have made you feel over run in what obviously is rightly your place. We shall try not to make our presence so obvious in the future. Thanks for pointing out the error of our ways.

*Keroin...quick, start a few more threads with Canada/Canadians in the title :D*

I'll be right there . . . !

I guess I should expect this in a thread about Canadians, started by a Canadian, for the enjoyment and amusement of fellow Canadians...eh?

Canadian senator wants polar bear as new emblem.
Are you folks gonna dump the cute little beaver for a man eating killer? Sure, the polar bear is pretty...all white and majestic, but I see a beaver almost every night where I work. He's calm, not easily frightened by humans, likes to swim, builds nice stick houses, and isn't a killer.

In Alaska, they have bus tours to drive by the polar bears for pictures. From inside the bus, they are beautiful creatures in their normal habitat. Large white bears with huge paws, sometimes with a couple of cute little cubs, going about their business of catching and eating fish. I'm sure the tour guide makes sure he tells everyone to stay inside the bus, though, or it would be a different scene.

Is there a bus tour to see beavers in their natural habitat? Probably not. Are they sought out to watch for their cuteness? Nope. Are their young cute little creatures that people would love to take pictures of? Maybe, but they usually stay within the nest, like smart little babies. Mamma doesn't parade them around like cute little picture fodder bait to catch humans off guard for a nice snack.

If Canada drops the beaver, the poor little guy will probably develop a complex. He'll lose the only real recognition he has in the world, except for the odd hockey team mascot. The polar bears? Their cuteness will keep them in vogue for quite a while.
