Challenge: write your own "Shadow Theater" poem

Aha!

I'm on to your game, my little rollmop. You are trying to suck me into posting until I hit 50 and have to give up my virginity. Not now, not later and certainly not with you!

You may have the last word if you must, but let me appologize to the rest of you for this little hijacking. Please return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Ok, maybe not.

Settle for a candle in the window for you?

And Opi, good idea (although, I've already written five versions since yesterday. Now, I have to pick which one to enter. Ermmm...what if five new poets suddenly showed up for this contest?

;)
And if you think she was kidding, I wouldn't trust it...

:p

Okay, I am in.

Lauren,

I, for one, am glad you gave us a week. Being sick in bed, I had no time or inclination to check in.

Count me in.

Maybe I'll write a ghazal... :D

And Cord is a talented authoress, too! I bet she does well...AA

With all these Shadow Theater [re] poems, we'll be able to publish a whole book of them. Wonder what we should call it?

AA's butt

if AA's gonna drag his butt into this thread I say he has to write a Shadow Theater poem. :p

(Lauren, can you believe one simple question--What's that thing with the puppets called?--has grown to this proportion?lol)

um, you're not talk'n about puppet's things, are you ? :D

And Kdog, it matter's not what the book is called. No one reads anymore anyway :( , the real question is who produces the movie

Oh my goodness! AlwaysAwake shows his ....errrrr...... face in our little corner of the bulletin boards. Hi there!

And I agree with Angeline. I think you should submit a "Shadow Theater" poem with us. I have seen your writing, and I think you could do it.

Confidently,

Cordelia

Puppets' Things

Isn't that what we're supposed to write about?

Casting Out Shadows

What words can one bring to this simple poem
about puppet's thing alluded to but never known?

This mere suggestion in a shadow of assumption--
perhaps not mere perchance severe, but gumption

is necessity of this invention to know thy thing
begs a bolder intention than this poet can bring

to a simple poem.

Alas it cannot be known in this our wintry discontent,
so mannequin a mystery remains unless we reinvent

him, strut his truth upon the stage to have it understood
in this theater of absurd libibo: is he sporting wood?

sign me up/What the hell?

Hi!
Again, apologies for being lazy about checking this forum. Sign me up! How does this work? What's the theme and date for the next poem? (Just like me to bombard you with lots of hyper questions).

By the way.... (evil stare) ... I can work lavalamps into ANY poem! Just watch me! :D And the sound of my machete is not lugubrious! I would love to stay and chat more, but I must go catch some fish for dinner.

:D Xtaabay

Fishy fritters
flip and flop
in my frying pan.

filleted and fried,
flung with pride
onto floor and platter.

What's wrong Rybka!
You're not eating.
Is something the matter?

(to my LUGUBRIOUS fishy friend).

reminding:

The idea is for everyone to write a poem with the same title, but instead of posting it here, submit it to Lit in a predetermined day, so that no one will know how the others are approaching the topic. It'll be interesting to see the different results.

Shadow Theater is the title and no variation of this title will be accepted. It has to be Shadow Theatre. Not Shadow Rider and Dream Theatre. Or I'll Fuck You In The Shadow Of The Theatre. Shadow Theatre (or Shadow Theatre if you prefer).
The title of the poem may be mentioned in the body of the poem. That's your choice.
The poem must be submitted on 01/30 so that it is posted on the 31st. So make sure you submit it early enough on the 30th.

----
That's it. Lavalamps are allowed, and if they can produce shadows, they're completely workable into Shadow Theatre poems.

BOO HOO, not fair to fishes! (siffle, sniffle)

Hey! Can I do the next title? I think I have found an interesting one. :)

I wasn't allowed to bring the whip into the courtroom.

Lauren & Rybka -- thank you

Lauren & Rybka, thank you for invitation-information. I already have my "Shadow Theater" poem, and an idea for another, different one too, but just an idea at this time.

Angeline, I thought that "shadow theater" and "puppet theater" are two different things. One has shadows on a screen, and the other has puppets on the stage. Am I wrong?

Regards,

After all these months I finally decided you know everything, and now, Senna, you ask me if you are wrong? You silly poet! ;)

Of course you are right. But I did find some references to the figures used in shadow theater as "puppets." That may cloud things up a bit.

Then again, OT is neither puppet nor shadow theater figure. (Well his AV. OT is a person, lol.) His AV is an artist's model. A mannequin.

But I knew the difference all along. :D

I was harrassing OT. Just because.

Shadow Theat-er/re

S.J. - Shadow theater, as you are thinking of it is a play(?) seen in shadow, projected upon a screen (from front or back). What you see are "Silhouettes on the Shade" as per:
Artists; The Diamonds
Peaked at # 10 in 1957
Version by The Rays, released 3 weeks earlier, hit # 3
Another version, by Steve Gibson and The Redcaps, managed only # 63
Re-made by Herman's Hermits to # 5 in 1965
Written by Frank C. Slay Jr. and Bob Crewe

There are also quite a few other possible interpretations of "Shadow Theat(re/er)". I have found one (in short form). :)
