Then there's the fiber addiction. I've been hand spinning since I was 14. I also knit and weave, but spinning is my real love.

Hand spinning as in a drop spindle? or do you have a wheel and everything?

Do you do your own dying?

Those were all wheel-spun. I have a wonderful production wheel and a way-cool antique wool wheel (the big ones that you walk and turn at the same time). I do drop-spinning, too, mostly at SCA events. I do dyeing, as well, although these yarns were all from commercially dyed fiber. I'm still learning about the 'good weeds' around here, but I've found some likely victims.

Since the hives are in full bloom today, requiring me to spend the day on heavy "knock you on your ass" antihystomines, I'm looking up places to sell my stuff.

Any one have any tips or links out there to find local craft fairs? Right now I'm just doing the google search thing.

Are you in the US? If so, this is a GREAT site. The subscription isn't cheap, but it's well worth it.

This one is spotty, but if your area is covered, it's pretty good.

I like this one, too, because it gives actual show reviews, AND there's an inexpensive online-only option.

Question for the crafty folks:

Has anyone here ever heard of or used the Tophatter auction site to buy or sell your goods? If so, what are your opinions of it? If not, is a craft auction site something you'd consider using? Do you know if there are any other sites like it out there?

I have a friend who is seriously investigating the possibility of starting a competitor site to this one. I'd never heard of it and I thought I'd drop in here to see if anyone else had.

Thanks!

I thought I had already posted this here, but apparently I hadn't. My in-law-ish people were remodeling their sauna in April and they had a lot of timber out and about, so I took the chance and built a box for growing stuff on the balcony.

laatikko.jpg

Sections from left to right: 1. spinach (new batch growing), 2. spinach (very little remaining, needs to be resown) 3. some kind of lettuce & onions 4. weird lettuce tree, kinda hacked up basil, spearmint and thyme.

The box is a bit large, or deep, for most of the stuff that's growing there, but I was originally planning on planting carrots there, so I would have needed the depth. I think I'm going to build a second, a bit smaller box for next year. Then I can plant carrots and onions on this box and put all the herbs, spinach and lettuces on the smaller one.

Very nice....of late I am in the mood for building something out of wood, so you have inspired me.:rose:

Catalina:)

Thanks! You should work with wood, Cat. It's so relaxing in a completely different way than anything else that I know. Also, getting to use power tools gives a buzz of its own. :)

LOL, yes, I usually get one of the men here to do the power tool thing, until recently. All the renovating, and not wanting to wait until they decide they have a moment to spare has seen me doing it myself. Working with wood might just be my next venture.

New to this thread and this whole section of the forums, but I thought I would try to post some of my chainmaille here.

The silvery one is a necklace made with aluminum in the byzantine weave that I made because I needed to use the rings and byz was about the only weave they were good for. It has a hook clasp that can't be seen in this picture. These were the first order of rings from a new supplier that I was trying out.

The copper one is a Jens Pind Linkage bracelet that I wear constantly. If I had the patience to do it, I would have made this a continuous chain and had it as a permy. As it is, I'm lazy and didn't have the time to figure out how to continue JPL at the time. So I finished it off with a simple hook clasp and it does it's best to turn my wrist green. These are the rings from the only order I have ever placed with Blue Buddha. Their rings are exquisite, but you pay for the quality. I haven't been able to order anything else from them.

If it matters to anyone, the aluminum rings are 18g 1/4" ID (I think) and the copper ones are H16 I believe (16g 3/16" ID). I could be wrong on the BBB number for the copper, but I know the bracelet is made with 16g rings and I like my JPL in this gauge right at an AR of 3.

The pictures are a bit odd because 1) they're taken with my phone and 2) I had to crop and scale the images so they would upload and didn't feel like messing with it too much.

I got bored a few weeks ago and made some cat5-o-nine-tails out of old cat5 cables I had lying around. Yeah, I'm a nerd.

This is the first one I made - 2 and a half feet long and (stupidly) with 10 tails.

I prefer my second one - about a foot and a half long, purple with a yellow handle, better grip and a D-ring handle - but I gave it away before I got photos of it.

I've got two more (red with black handle) in bits on my bench. I might get around to finishing them some time soon...

if anyone's up to it, I need some cosplay gear fabricated. PM me and we can discuss compensation.

And yes "compensation' means money or item trade ya pervs.

Unless you WANT "compensation' to mean "utterly destroying holes". then i'm all ears!

This is just for show, right? If not, those plastic RJ45 plugs on the end have pointy edges and can quickly cut flesh. I don't think I'd try using it on anybody, if it were mine.

But, as a novelty, it's great. Especially the name you gave it. I'm sure a non nerd wouldn't catch that.

Not so long ago I made an addition to a leather cock ring I have to give more sensation to my hanging bits. It proved to be a great modification.

So as not to offend  I did not link the photo into this post, should you be interested just click the attachment. :D

It's quite stylish and elegant! ;)

My first thought was, "oohhh nice place for weights!"

Looks like a stylish way to keep the flies away. :D

RedMonkeyButt, a very nice post on your Chain Male jewelery. I love the byzantine, it is such a complicated looking weave. The copper Jens Pind Linkage bracelet looks great. It is a little hard to see but the weave is Aspect Ratio is tight as is required with that weave. The closures look spot on. Very good craftsmanship and pretty jewelery.

A quick story about the 12g copper JPL chain wife made for me. When I first made the rings they were 7.5mm and the weave was loose and sloppy. The next batch were 7mm and the weave tightened up very nicely and looks great. Who would have thought a lousy half a millimeter would have made that much difference. (LOL)

I apologize for not responding to your PM. I recently got paid and shopping, Dr.s appt etc. got in the way. I will get back to you.

Yeah, it's a novelty at home and a threat in the server room at work. It's not a sex toy.

That said, I've no doubt that some daft bastard will use it as one. I bought half decent cat cable with snagless ends so that at least the catch is less likely to wound, but you're right - the corners could do you damage. Especially on the big one.

I agree about the connecters. For the one in the server room I'd be tempted to cut the ends off and dip the ends in red Dipit. (sp) A plastic coating you can buy pretty cheaply. Thus the ends look bloody. An even more intimidating look in the server room. (G)
