Embarras de Richesse

My foray into GM, "His Debut", got the anticipated bombing, but also garnered the funniest comment I've yet received: "You need an editor." From Anonymous, of course. I had a good laugh.

That is good for a laugh! LOL!

Back to the main topic. Three winners on 7/19.

First and foremost, Grandmaster dweaver999 is back with "Amber's Enchantment Epilogue". SciFi/Fantasy is rarely my thing, but this is a master of the craft.

Roden Addison has posted Ch 3 of "The Widow", which is getting good reader feedback. A good storyteller, building a real following.

A fellow Canadian, Jdeau, has posted "My Best Friend's Wedding". She got me to suspend my disbelief about the plot, her characterization being so well-drawn. Perfect mechanicals, a fine sense of pace. If you like Lesbian, this is worth your time.

To clarify, Jdeau and Roden Addison are both Canadians, thus the "fellow Canadian" comment above. I am not a Canadian citizen. Jdeau tells me she is planning to turn her story "My Best Friend's Wedding" into a novel, presumably for commercial publication. I wish her every success.

Roden Addison has Ch 4 of "The Widow" ready to post. An interesting plot twist, and some pregnancy sex make for a downscroller. Stay tuned.

ThatBlueCat has a strong story in "Oxygen", a one-pager that's hot and economically written; no wasted words.

Roden Addison has what he calls a "quicky", "Ginger--and Jack and Jill", set in New Orleans, and hot as McElhenny's Tabasco sauce.

And SilkStockingsLover is gearing up her entry for Summer Lovin'--everybody into the pool! Got to cool off from all that heat!

Nachthexe, a writer whom I’ve found to be inconsistent in the past, has a new novella cranking up, ‘Witch Bone and the Mongol Queen”. I like what I’ve seen of it. He and Saxon Stonedyke are telling similar tales (see Saxon’s “Lady of My Heart” series). Obviously, the woman-warrior theme is a popular one, whether historical or fantastic.

LaRascase has Ch 2 of “Living with Katrina” just posted. Good character work. Bar the slightly unrealistic account of parking cars in New York City, it’s an interesting tale. Too bad it isn’t getting the votes it deserves, but that’s an old story....

Roden Addison has posted Ch 4 of “The Widow”, and it seems to be a crowd-pleaser. I haven’t seen Ch 5 yet, but I expect it’ll have some interesting plot twists. A writer who first posted to Lit just four months ago, RA has surged in the race for “Rookie of the Year” honours.

JimBob44’s “Inferno”, a LW, drew the usual bombs, but also some cheers. A tough story in a tough (make that “killer”) category.

Just uploaded that story yesterday. It should be on by about Thursday. Quite pleased with it for a quick write, but the title has been changed. Watch for "Ginger, Spice and Everything. Nice!"

Thanks for the promo estragon.

Cheers people.

The copy editor is the last to know.

And eventually I might learn to spell LaRascasse's handle correctly. Some copy editor!

Haha all is forgiven as long as you don't miss stuff like this in the stories.

I might have inspired a radical prison-themed story in our mutual friend silk. Keep an eye out for that.

LaRascasse, see, I finally got it right. Silk is really busy right now; I just worked on a lengthy draft of hers, but she's already revising it extensively, so it's definitely a work-in-process. I expect it won't be posted any time soon.

I am delighted to report that Ilmonamour has a Summer Lovin' entry under construction, and the approvals should not be a problem, although it may take a while. And it isn't happening in Chicago.

Scotsman69 has posted "A Girl From Kenya". Nice Gleska local colour, but I had a problem with the plot. Or perhaps I could put it better: with how his protagonist dealt with the situation. And the plot recalled the late Dick Francis' fine novel "Forfeit," which I very much enjoyed, as Francis' treatment was superior. But then again, only around 60 million copies of his novels have been sold.

Heard from Saxon_Stonedyke that her Summer Lovin' entry is bubblin' along, but RL family concerns had her stymied with the conclusion of "Lady of My Heart". I'm really looking forward to the conclusion of the fantasy.

Joulie has posted "Bonnie from Clyde Side & Friends", and I stand corrected: the story shows good Glesga local colour. Could do with a wee copy edit, but, as Guide Michelin used to say, "nothing that need long detain the tourist."

Roden Addison has finished his series "The Widow", and Ch 5 has the plot twists and interesting characters we've come to expect from this talented writer.

Saxon_Stonedyke has finished "Lady of My Heart", but internet gremlins have locked the final chapter somewhere in the Great Smoky Mountains. I hope I'll soon be able to take a sneak peek.

Waiting for my dsl to come back online. If it doesn't soon I may have to resort to carrier pidgeon. My smart phone does not seem amicable to intercourse with my new laptop so I can't send it that way either. Does Laural accept submissions by carrier pidgeon?

Just uploaded Sunday evening. Should be approved and on site by Wednesday or so.

Cheers, all.

Saxon_Stonedyke's DSL came back to life, and so Ch 6 of "Girl of My Heart" came singing through the wires. Dragon gets high, Ames gets high, the fight goes on....

I like Tara_Neale’s essays, and “Raw Emotion, Hot Sex and Laughter” is another good one.

Nachthexe has a new draft of "Witchbone and the Mongol Queen", labeled as Ch 2. Nacht did adopt some of my quibbles to Ch 1, but the present story is five Lit pages, and at 2:15 a.m., local time, that's a bit much for me to deal with.

DG Hear, MFG, started on what might become a Summer Lovin' entry, although it's early times yet.

Jdeau has an illustrated story of East meets West, "The Pearl Ring Ch 1". Long on pictures, short on story. Pictures promise an interesting Ch 2, though.

MdiGirolamo has an interesting debut, "Anabasis", only it's just two and not 10,000. The first page and a half were interesting, but the seven-page length put me off. However, at least two readers went the distance, and were complimentary.

Jdeau promises more and better in the following chapters of "The Pearl Ring", but says it will take a while to get there. We shall see.

Roden Addison has posted the conclusion of "The Widow." Hope his fans like the story as much as I did. And his Summer Lovin' entry is sitting in my inbox.

Saxon Stonedyke has overcome DSL, the Internet and RL to post the conclusion of "Girl of My Heart". You go, girl!

Got to get weaving this evening, because SilkStockingsLover has a Summer Lovin' entry for a quick copy edit, and off to the races.

Writers, keep 'em coming (pun definitely intended)!

I Should Just Keep My Big Mouth Shut

or rather, keep my keyboard quiet. The entries are tumbling in.

Just finished copyediting SilkStockingsLover's Ch 4 of "What Mom Knows". Not an entry, part of a five or six chapter story. SilkStockingsLover wants to make sure her fans don't get antsy, or start worrying she won't finish the story. As Don MacLean sang it "Eight Miles High and falling fast...."

Then Roden Addison sent me a Summer Lovin', DG Hear, MFG, sent along Ch 2 of a story he might be entering as a stand-alone, and Sandra_Mustard (no, she isn't the alt of a professional writer, she's just someone who tells a good hot story) sent me a prospective entry as well.

I'm gonna be a busy laddie, but it's all worth it. Can't wait for the moment when the field is in the hands of the starter, the pace car comes by, and the dude with the checkered flag starts waving it, and I hear those engines roar--guys, that's show biz!

No roaring engine, but jjcole, an old-time regular on Lit, has just posted "Daffy', a first-timer. He's an inventive type, who's solved the apostrophe problem that plagues so many authors by simply using none at all.

I think George Bernard Shaw did likewise.

Anyway, his heroine reminded me of my first wife, after all these years.

Just When I Thought

I had the stack under control, LaRascasse has sent along Ch 3 of "Life With Katrina". I feel like I should be sitting in front of a radar screen in the tower at LGA or ORD or LAX...or even worse, at ATL.

Got two off the ground, Roden Addison's (and look for the ending, it's really great), and DG Hear, MFG's partial. DGH,MFG's, story is in his typical style, but I get the feeling his narrative has a course change coming up.

Good reading ahead.

I was right, there was good reading ahead, and not all of them were entrants for Summer Lovin'. Bucky Duckman, a regular contributor to the AH BB, has a truly hot Lesbian story in "Picture Perfect." Good characterization and a believable story line make for good reading.
