One thought I had on Stark's alcoholism exclusion in the film series was RDJ's previous substance abuse - it may sound minor but it definitely is a major factor. I haven't read into this, so I'll poke around a bit.

Even if there isn't any proof of this, the thought is very sound. I really enjoyed RDJ as Stark, as well as his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.

I feel the primary success to the Iron Man movies has been due to RDJ and his, from a straight perspective, very raw attraction, and his ability to pull from this very issue.

Though I will always be more of a Captain America guy myself ;p

I'm really starting to look forward to Monuments Men.
That looks pretty good to me.

I watch Scandal and feel only two things about the characters
Absolute disgust
Continual disappointment

And yet I can not stop watching this trainwreck of incredibly horrible people.

Sounds like how I feel about Game of Thrones.

Except on Game Of Thrones, they are interesting and unpredictable.
Complex, even.

Here, they are just lousy people, and the only thing that sets them apart from other lousy people is that they can't understand why no one has any sympathy for them when they do lousy things.

interesting and unpredictable and complex...yeah
But still assholes who need to get what's coming to them...same problem I had trying to read the books. The interesting and unpredictable and complexity to their characters is outweighed by the sheer magnitude of how much they deserve to be punched in the face (and in case of some: repeatedly)....too many episodes happen without balancing those two factors.

It offends my sense of justice.
So watching it becomes a war of how interesting and unpredictable and complex it is and how much I want to just ragequit on the whole thing.

A good show is not supposed to do that to you.

I don't know, I think a good show should do those things. I mean, that's pretty much what life does to you... and I really hate reading predictable characters. I think part of the problem with writing professionally makes it so I always know every damn plotline before it happens. Game of Thrones? Nope. That's really refreshing for me.

Scandal, on the other hand, just throws you a bunch of plot balls for no fucking reason and they all suck. How they've treated Kerry Washington on that show is horrific, and don't get me started on Abby's character.

And if I hear one more person say that it's just a second-rate Sorkin because Sorkin "knows how to write women," I'm gonna bite someone.

Intellectually I would agree...emotionally no way....people who deserve to be punched in the face should get punched in the face in a timely fashion.

Like I said I can agree with your points, which is why I kept watching, but eventually I just didn't care...I just wanted somebody to take certain characters down a peg.

It seriously tests me. Using your own reasons I try to watch it but leave each episode not fully satisfied emotionally...do that enough times and I say your credit is up no matter how amazing the show is.

I just started watching The Killing the other day, no idea why. It's okay, mostly Joel Kinnaman is delicious and I want to lick him, but...

The plot's kind of dragging. I'm two episodes into season two, has anyone else seen this show?

I miss a good space opera show...something like Farscape, Babylon 5, or even the star trek shows. Something with aliens, and robots, and spaceships, and laser guns...Are we ever going to get one on the air again?

I think there was a show called Defying Gravity a while ago about a bunch of astronauts on a tour-of-the-solar-system mission slowly all doing crazy and getting corrupted by a McGuffin their ship was carrying. What little I saw looked pretty good.

THis.. SO much this!

I loved Babylon 5, Farscape. And I would include Stargate SG-1, just because!

I devoured the first two seasons, and have had two false starts on the third season.

I don't understand why what's-her-name that's the lead has to be so... drab. Is the city not already dreary enough?

I'm sticking with it, for now. I like how she's presented. She's just trying to do her job. And her job is complicated and dreary. The fact that they manage to smile at all is incredible.

Yeah, SG-1 totally deserves to be there too, but only the first 8 seasons or so. Once they brought in the Ori as the big bad guys the show seriously went downhill.

Beats of the Southern Wild. Yeah.

I waited way too long to watch that movie. I've been listening to the soundtrack since I finished it.

I'll give you the last two seasons were downers. It also took me a bit to get into SG-U. I just don't understand why there isn't a good sci-fi show in that area being made these days. I want SPACE OPERA DAMNIT

In many ways I want a Honor Harrington Movie made, but in many ways, I don't. I am so torn.

Dude, David Weber is like my favorite author. I'm rereading Apocalypse Troll right now, trying to get my Dave fix before the next Safehold book comes out next month.:)

He is great isn't he. I haven't started that group of books yet but have read Dahak series, Honorvese of course, Hell have no fury, and Starfire.

Timothy Zahn is my other favorite author.

Mini rant for a sec. Does anyone else HATE becoming a fan of a show? Or game series, or film series, or comic, or book, whatever? You know that annoying realization as you're sitting and internally talking shit at whatever it is you're watching/reading, "Oh, come on, ________!" Then it hits you that you have become invested in something that you never meant to care about in the first place.

And that's pretty much been my whole damn history with Supernatural. (Plus like a ton of other series of things but FUCKING HELL, SUPERNATCH. I HATE YOU.)

The Winchester brothers frown at your shenanigans

Okay, maybe its smirking....yeah they smirk at your shenanigans

It really is telling that I know exactly what episode that picture is from.

Its alright. Its the Winchester's charm.

Damn freaking show. Damn them, Damn Castiel, damn Crowley!!!

I don't have cable, so I am not up to date on season 9. Don't make me watch seasons 1-8 again on Netflix because I will!

By now I've read everything with Dave's name on it, hell reread it a couple of times. Totally top of the list would be Honorverse series with the Safehold one a close second. The Dahak series I liked too, Mutineer's Moon still is one of my faves of his overall behind Honor of the Queen and Field of Dishonor and Armageddon Reef and We Few and Old Soldiers and At all Costs....I can just keep going on and on here. The only one of his I thought was meh was Out of the Dark and the War God's Own.

I keep meaning to pick up those other books, but just haven't gotten around to it. One day I will, just rereading Dresden Files right now. And might start Mistborn after that.
