For Those Who Might Be Wondering Why We Might Be In Ukraine

Zelensky doesn't seem to get it. The US will fight Russia to the last drop of Ukrainian blood. Ukraine joining NATO would massively increase the chance of a direct confrontation between the US and Russia, which is what Zelensky wants of course.
Horseshit....of course Zelensky gets it. His country is actively being invaded by a defined enemy of NATO.......his entire effort is a.political game to garner support against the invaders. And he's playing it masterfully

The US has been burned too many times by countries that weren’t fully committed to democratic change.

The US is giving Ukraine every opportunity to demonstrate that they are in for the long haul on democracy, and that they are willing to fight and die for it.

To their everlasting credit, the Ukrainians HAVE demonstrated incredible fortitude / resiliency in the face of a ruthless INVADING enemy with a significant military capability on its border. Their case for joining NATO gets stronger every day.

That ^ said: WINNING THE WAR is the first step in Ukraine joining NATO.

I would like to see all the current NATO members that are not meeting their agreed upon commitments to spend 2% of GDP on defense step up before adding new members. Only 11 out of 31 countries are meeting that threshold. There are some really bad apples, including our neighbors to the north.

Biden and Zelensky to discuss long-range missiles in Wednesday meeting, Sullivan says

by Mike Brest, Defense Reporter |
July 12, 2023 10:55 AM

Presidents Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky will discuss the possibility of the United States providing Ukraine with long-range missiles that the Biden administration has chosen not to give the country to date.

The Biden administration has repeatedly denied Ukraine's request for Army Tactical Missile Systems due to concerns that Russia could view that as an escalation if it enables Ukraine to strike targets within Russian territory. Despite the stance Biden has held for months, he has on multiple occasions changed his mind after previously declining to provide Ukraine with other weapons.

“President Biden will continue to discuss that issue with President Zelensky today. He has said he’s been looking at it and will continue to do so,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Good Morning America on Wednesday.

Sullivan's remarks came ahead of Biden's meeting with Zelensky, both of whom are in Vilnius, Lithuania, for the NATO summit.

If it is true that Biden is thinking about giving long-range missiles to Ukraine then it will be yet another reversal of previous public statements. He said, in the beginning, he wouldn't provide weapons that Ukraine could use to strike the Russian homeland, he said he wouldn't send Abrams Tanks, then he said no to Patriot missiles, he said no to F-16s. All of which he has either sent or is contemplating sending now. Either Joe or somebody controlling him has made decisions that make him look like an idiot and draw the US closer to war with Russia. If he provides offensive weapons systems that are capable of striking Russia's nuclear deterrent or Russian territory he is making the United States itself, its personnel or military bases lawful military targets. This is insanity. Ukraine is finished they've already lost this war, and they are out of effective combat personnel that could possibly make a difference in the outcome. Zelensky's only hope at this point is to draw the United States and Nato into this conflict. That won't work either.

Translation of “Right”guide’s pant wetting screed.:

President Biden’s analysis on / approach to arming Ukraine has evolved as Ukraine has REPEATEDLY demonstrated it is EXTRAORDINARILY capable of holding its own against a “superpower”.

Ukraine WINNING the war is now more likely a PROBABILITY rather than a possibility.

Cluste munitions, advanced armored vehicles / air defense, longer range missiles, F-16s, etc only increase the odds of Ukraine WINNING.

Top Air Force General In Europe Warns US Is Running ‘Dangerously Low’ On Ammunitio

MICAELA BURROWINVESTIGATIVE REPORTER, DEFENSE
July 13, 202310:10 AM ET

U.S. and allied stocks of ammunition have fallen “dangerously low” with no sight of returning to acceptable levels any time soon, the commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) said Wednesday, according to Breaking Defense.

Air Force Gen. James Hecker urged NATO allies to think seriously about munitions stockpiles and the number of fighter squadrons needed to maintain a strong deterrent in Europe at the Chief of the Air Staff’s Global Air & Space Chiefs’ Conference in London, Breaking Defense reported. The defense industry has not been able to sustain the demands of American and allied forces as well as feed the massive appetite of the Ukrainian forces in providing ammunition to Ukraine, he said.

“Now you add that we’re giving a lot of munitions away to the Ukrainians — which I think is exactly what we need to do — but now we’re getting dangerously low and sometimes, in some cases even too low, that we don’t have enough. We need to get industry on board to help us out so we can get this going,” he added.

The U.S. has provided Ukraine with more than $41 billion in weapons and other warfighting aid since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to a Department of Defense (DOD) fact sheet. The Pentagon has pulled more than 2,000,000 155mm artillery rounds, 7,000 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds and 500,000 105mm rounds, as well as tens of thousands of shells belonging to other munitions classes, primarily from existing stocks to help Ukraine fight artillery-heavy battles.

This is the incompetent Biden administration setting us up for WWIII and defeat in Europe.

This is a great business opportunity for American munitions suppliers to step up and increase.production. And a great need for new.workers to learn a valuable skill.

They've received about 2 million rounds from our stores. The production rate is about 14,000 a month. So figure it out, it's about 11 years of production to catch up. Not in time for a war with Russia, North Korea, or China.

Pootin has just realized 2/3 of his defense budget over the years has been pilfered. That is why he has nothing left either.

It's not when production is ramped up properly.

It would just require gun nuts to not buy as much ammo for a short bit.

But great for American businesses

He's welcome to his opinion. NATO is a defensive alliance and is open for countries to apply. Russia and China threaten the stability of the global economy daily.
Wrong. NATO was formed in 1949, the Soviet Union applied to join NATO in 1954 and was refused. In 1955, in a highly provocative move, NATO invited West Germany to join just 10 years after the end of WW2. Following this, the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries formed the Warsaw Pact.

Ukraine War: Zelensky Embezzled $400 Million Allocated By The US For Purchasing Fuel – Seymour Hersh

By

April 12, 2023

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars that the US allocated for the purchase of fuel, according to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh.

In his blog, Hersh writes – The Ukraine government, headed by Volodymyr Zelensky, has been using American taxpayers’ funds to pay dearly for the vitally needed diesel fuel that is keeping the Ukrainian army on the move in its war with Russia.

It is unknown how much the Zalensky government is paying per gallon for the fuel, but the Pentagon was paying as much as $400 per gallon to transport gasoline from a port in Pakistan, via truck or parachute, into Afghanistan during the decades-long American war there.

The issue of corruption was directly raised with Zelensky in a meeting last January in Kyiv with CIA Director William Burns. His message to the Ukrainian president, I was told by an intelligence official with direct knowledge of the meeting, was out of a 1950s mob movie.
The senior generals and government officials in Kyiv were angry at what they saw as Zelensky’s greed, so Burns told the Ukrainian president because “he was taking a larger share of the skim money than was going to the generals.”

This story is all over the foreign press but is being surpressed in much of the US.

No, it doesn't. History shows 100% that NATO is not a "defensive alliance", but the Warsaw Pact was, after NATO had refused the Soviet Union's attempt to join only to then invite WW2 enemies West Germany into NATO.

History doesn't show that. Accepting one application over another doesn't indicate offense versus defense.

History doesn't show that.
Of course it does. NATO formed in 1949, the Soviet Union applied to join NATO in 1954 and were refused, NATO invites West Germany to join in 1955, the Soviet Union and Eastern European states then form the Warsaw Pact. NATO proved by refusing the Soviet Union and inviting West Germany in that NATO was all about anti-communism and anti-socialism, and about the US controlling Europe. These sort of actions from NATO are always more telling than any words are. And at the time, McCarthyism was poisoning US politics domestically.

None of that demonstrates offense or defense.

We didn't fight over Georgia or the Crimea. Fuck Ukraine.

We're not Mike Pence, we realize that we have more pressing problems at home.
I don't know anyone killed by the Russians, but we all know someone in our community killed by the Mexican cartels with help from China. Maybe it's because the Ukrainians are, ahem, white people....
