Gamers?

Once upon a time (until about 3 years ago) Luna was an avid table top fan. If it was in the WoD or D&D universe, I was all for it. Alas, my group has dispersed, moved, went away...and left me lonely.

*le sigh, le sigh*

NOW I still play an insane amount of games (Mostly console~think Sacred, The Reckoning, etc. etc.) but for the most part I can not (in good faith) call myself a gamer as I don't get to play what I really enjoy, anymore.

*see second statement in first paragraph*

Okay, I mentioned in an earlier post to this thread that I had a hidden agenda for starting the thread. The truth is I wanted to get a feeling for some good writers who are also table top, or paper, pencil, and dice type gamers for the group thread I am working up with Jack80, Cheska, and a couple others so far.

I know that group threads often do not do well on Lit, and I'm hoping that getting gamers who are used to the long campaign style of role play can improve the chance of success for this story.

We could still use a couple more female writer/gamers to join us. If you think you might be interested based on what you read in the OOC thread, send a PM to one of us mentioned above.

For those looking for a cheap, somewhat fun RPG game to play on their PC, Neverwinter Nights Complete is on sale for $7.49 on Game Stop's Impulse. This includes both Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, and all 3 expansions for the first one and the 3 for the 2nd.

Also, if you are into it, there are persistent worlds (online worlds) for both games still out there. Some are for role playing, and others are... well other types as well. I do recommend checking some of them out, you never know.

So did a guy just say I want to write a thread with like five female writers all by myself? Cause that's... bold...

Actually... yeah it was ;p

Nah, I was talking with Thyri about a her character concept, told her about an idea I had... and well.....

Yeah. I am so lucky..... man I hope I don't screw things up.

Just caught up with this thread and I too am an old AD&D'er since the early 90's Read Dragonlance books and was hooked. Kender anyone? lol Then once I got a pc I switched, played the old Sierra Quest games,FF7...(Woot, Best FF EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And when I got internet I got hooked on Evercrack and Warcraft. Any fyi Everquest is f2p now So if anyone is interested there I'm either Jalad or Scrubbin on the Nameless/Erolissi Marr server. Now back in day we found the AD&D sex manual where you could get diseases and pregnant, I mean if it was about anything sexual it was in there. Was pdf file but seemed legit. So we created a whole island where we could try all this stuff out with (Just in case we didn't get into it too much could always sink it or something) BUt we had silly sexy time with it.

I joke with a friend of mine all the time that he's training his daughters down the line of geekdom. They love watching him play games, and asking him silly questions like "Why did you have to shoot him in the knee, when you could've shot him in the back of the head when he wasn't looking?"

YOU HAVE NO IDEA how sweet and funny that was to hear. He had his mic open and we all laughed.

GM: "As dawn rises over the hill, you see a village, what do you guys do after your long walk through the night?"

Me: "I order my followers to follow me and attack the village, John can cast fireball into key locations and PJ will move around to the other side to kill any who escape!"

quiet pause......

GM: "Cheksa, you are the groups paladin....."

Me: "..... shit...."

I swear, the village was comming right at me, it was self defense.

Yes and no

Just wondering, how many Litsters were or still are gamers. Were you, or are you still old school paper, pencil, and dice gamers, like DnD? Or are you more of the computer/online type? Does it affect how you role play here? Did it bring you here in the first place, like me? Have you written stories/role plays for your old gaming characters here?

I play online games, usually free stuff, whatever is around. I do play board games once and awhile. I have never role played anywhere actually. No, I have never written stories as a gaming character before, that is interesting though. I suppose, I never thought about it really till now.

The caption would probably be more accurate if it read "You wish it were like that."

I see 4 girls and 3 guys (I guess 4 if you count the offscreen person). You'll pretty much never find a D&D session where the number of women meets or exceeds the number of men. You're pretty lucky if you have one at all that isn't just "The DM's girlfriend who doesn't really understand why these dice have so many sides."

My sister plays two table top games, one there's another chick besides her... the other usualy shes outnumbered 5 to 1.

I love pen-and-paper RPGs, and have played them for almost 25 years now.

They were an almost literal lifeline for a socially awkward chronically shy teenager (as I was at the time) as they gave me something in common with others, something that I could talk about, gave me the social interaction that I needed.

I've moved around a lot in the last few years which has made it difficult to find a tabletop group, and so I spent quite a lot of time playing play-by-post games in forums like these - something that I think helped develop my writing.

Unfortunately, such games seldom last for long, as players drop out or become sporadic. I did have one game of WFRP 2nd Ed that lasted almost 3 years, but that was the exception rather than the rule.

I'd certainly consider joining a group on the RP boards here.

Recently, after 10 years out of the country, I moved back to the UK and re-connected with my old LARP society. So now I get my RP fix once or twice a month fighting my way through hordes of orcs and undead in some local woodland, clad in some ( admittedly historically innaccurate) plate, a tower shield in one hand and a large warhammer in the other.

A fun social activity with fresh air and exercise :)

As for the male/female divide, it depends on the game. Vampire The Masquerade always seemed to attract more female players, and playing the live Mind's Eye Theatre version always seems to encourage them to dress to impress.

There are a fair number of ladies in my LARP society too - my last real life lover was one of them :)

I am a huge gamer, but it doesn't sound like the type of gamer you guys are referring to here...
