Global warming and a country ran by Crude Junkies

Eventually we will loose all of the lighter gasses.

What the fuck do you think happened on Mars?

It's always been understood that eventually we would run out of Helium...

We can 'make' helium' if need be. (It's a by-product of radio-active decay and reactors.)

When molecules collide, the lighter ones move more, basic physics. That movement is only up a small percentage at a time. So the lighter molcules are going down more often and farther than the heavier molecules. The heavier molecules cannot accumulate at a lower spot in most places because the earth's rotation and heating cause currents. Plus, sometimes they bang each other up!

But eventually, unless replenished, all the lighter gasses will escape. It just takes an incredibly long time. I am for clean air, environment, etc., but all too often bad science is seized upon with messianic zeal by those whom worship their own wit and secular leanings over impersonal, long-term observation and experimentation.

It's called lower atmospheric mixing. It's a function of winds and thermal gradients. The higher you go, the less of this effect you see. At an altitude of 12Km or so very little of that is happening. And even less at the altitude of the Ozone layer, which starts at 30Km or so.

The lighter gasses don't so much escape, as they're blown away by the solar wind.

Yep and the sun is warming all its planets and stripping off more gas than usual in its current cycle...

;) ;)

Sean, I don't think it went by Ish at all. I brought it down to more of a high school level to make sure I understood it.

We still don't know who sold all those SUV's on Mars yet, do we?

ELF is working with the Chinese on a project to get up there and burn the hummer dealership down...

The Chinese are somewhat perplexed and trying to explain about Oxygen to them, but they were educated in government schools, so they're not getting far.

Now, Now, just because we haven't found them doesn't mean they are not there! They are probably just hidden in the sand or were shipped to Venus to hide them from US.

It was the evil GM corp. Everyone knows they've been trying to expand their markets.

I'm sure Ruminator will get to the bottom of that conspiracy.

Guess what Rob "the ignorant troll?" I have civil discourse with most people on the board. You're the pissant. I got tired of your shit and now you try to lay off on me your own MO.

Rob, you're a piece of shit. You've always been a piece of shit. You will always be a piece of shit. What's worse, you're a lying piece of shit. You might survive one, or the other, but not both.

Ishmael

Civil discourse, eh?

Pop quiz:
Go to the search function and see how many times Mr. Civil Discourse has used the word "idiot". 364 times by my count. (full disclosure: the word "idiot" shows up 25 times in my posts, mostly in quotes of Ishmael's).

Or search on the word "shit"....the search engine terminates at 500 entries for Ishmael, and 53 for me (and again, largely due to quotes).

Well, it might be because Bush said he supported it while on the campaign trail in 2000. Soon as he got elected though, he changed his mind and said he was against it.
The Presidential Debate

MODERATOR: What about global warming?

BUSH: I think it's an issue that we need to take very seriously. But I don't think we know the solution to global warming yet. And I don't think we've got all the facts before we make decisions. I tell you one thing I'm not going to do is I'm not going to let the United States carry the burden for cleaning up the world's air. Like Kyoto Treaty would have done. China and India were exempted from that treaty. I think we need to be more even-handed, as evidently 99 senators -- I think it was 99 senators supported that position.

MODERATOR: Global warming, the Senate did turn it down. I think --

BUSH: 99 to nothing.

That's pretty much what I remember. Par for the course as far as Rob's standard of accuracy goes.

Rob and accuracy together in one sentence is an oxymoron.

How would I go about creating a hole in the ozone over my backyard? I spent a lot of money on my in ground pool but I only get about 3 1/2 months of good summer weather here.

You are quite welcome. It was an excellent point by someone who deosn't partake much in the political threads.
I tend to find that most of the people who partake in the political threads a lot never make excellent points...ok, I'm really just talking about LT. But he makes at least as many posts as everyone else combined. *sigh* Putting the face of a moron on liberality.
Seriously though, most people take political posts way too seriously. No need to cuss someone out for disagreeing with you or being misinformed. But that's just my opinion, and I've always been a tad naive.

Especially if one can turn the endeavor into a conspiracy...

For years, the Bush family has been scheming on how they can destroy the environment in the name of profits for their buddies.

Our presense in space is provoking a war with China because it makes them feel insecure.

We are such imperialistic bullies!

My my my, what selective memory the residents of Wingnuttia have.

It seems like only yesterday (March 2001 to be exact), when we had the following headline:

On March 13, President Bush reversed a campaign pledge, saying his administration would not seek to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.

But then, George W. Bush was never really a man of his word...

(But I can see how that lack of conscience would appeal to people like Fagin, Ishmael and especially Gringao)
