Some velvet morning when I'm straight ........

Ah...Siouxsie...haven't thought about her in a while...my generation of Goth too!

*Now I have Peepshow running through my head*

Then you would like this. It's funny when I go to their shows as I'm usually the only one dressed in something like jeans and a button collar shirt.

P.S. No one ever messes with me either. Last time we were doing shots with the band, nice guys.

I've been to a Combichrist show. Probably won't go a second time - don't really enjoy their music played live. VNV Nation? Yeah, sure. Speedy J? Hell yeah!

They suck live? Booooo!!

Went to the club last night. Particularly enjoyed it as the DJ was in a rivethead mood so he was spinning a lot of the stuff I like. It seemed like better than half of what was spun was stuff that I have on my hard drive :D

Lots and lots of excellently dark eye candy too.

And, yes, I dress mundane. I go there for the music and the eye candy and don't give a fuck about fitting in.

I didn't enjoy them when they played here. They come here often too so... it's not worth my money. Their music is too faux-aggressive - too juvenile. VNV Nation has no pretention about that and they can be as airy as they want. But for real aggressive industrial, look for the industrial techno, power electronics and the industrial hardcore. I love me industrial hardcore.

Part of my problem is that I have no awareness of genre. I was a ska fan for ten years before I knew it was called ska. Same with the various subgenres of electronic music, or whatever it's called these days. I know the sort of sound that I like to hear, and have no damned clue how to find similar. And frequently, when someone says a given act is genre x, and another that sounds extraordinarily similar is genre y, I get lost.

The long and short of it is that I like certain sounds to compliment certain moods. One of those moods is served inordinately well by aggressive Industrial music. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

This is a mix of both industrial hardcore and industrial hardcore. You can't really tell the difference except for two tracks that have beautiful breakdowns which clearly indicate that they are more industrial than techno.

Whoops, wrong file. Not the file I wanted to upload. Oh well. It's all hardcore techno if you wanted to know.

I'm slowly starting to fall in love with this whole goth thing, y'all.

Goth Girls

Ok, for this thread Ill have to make a rare appearance! I LOVE Goth, have considered myself goth since highschool, some 20 + yrs ago. I grew up w/ Siouxie and Joy Division and of course New Order (aka Happy Goth) I adore VNV Nation- they put on one HELL of a good show. My wardrobe consists of alot of Goth-y tpe cloting as well, those who know me will testify to this, and I now am sporting BLUE, yes blue hair- LOL. Who says goth doesn't live on for those of us who are 40(ish) :)

Goth didn't magically pop into being in 1980. The goths were heavily influenced by the glam movement, and the granddaddy of goth, david bowie, still walks among us and even makes records from time to time. See also marc bolan (covered often by bauhaus) and others.

I'm amused to see that the Swans were namechecked, but they couldn't find room for the Birthday Party.

Here we go, a proper industrial mixtape.

"Proper" is the right word! This started out exactly as I was hoping it would.

Thank you for all of these links.

If anybody wants to purchase serious, industrial hardcore, "turn that shit down" music, let me know via PM. My brother in law owns a store that caters to that very market, but he's closing it in March, so he's selling stock cheap. Let me know what you want - either by album or just "gimme something good" - and I'll pass it along to him.

Any chance that it's in the DC area? I'll be up there next month. I wouldn't mind a side trip if it's in the area.

*only here to read through and add my vote for the love of gothica*

I went from punk/sk8r girl in the late 80's to semi-gothic/vampiric fetishist in the early 90's. *sighs* Obviously at 35, my lifestyle has drifted away from that particular mind set BUT I still love the music/ look. I will have to see if I can find some deviated pics from my friends to show you what I mean...
