turning attention

chitter, chirp

In dawn's colors
I wrap myself in nature
consumed by life

that bright colored cloak
life in all her glory sews
gift to everyone

---ahhh, coming to this thread is such a sweet breath of air for me... : ) thx!

all heads turn
toward the morning sun

A haiku is not a poem, it is not literature; it is a hand becoming,
a door half-opened, a mirror wiped clean. It is a way of returning
to nature, to our moon nature, our cherry blossom nature, our
falling leaf nature, in short, to our Buddha nature. It is a way in
which the cold winter rain, the swallows of evening, even the very
day in its hotness, and the length of the night, become truly
alive, share in our humanity, speak their own silent
and expressive language.

Haiku: Eastern Culture, 1949, Volume One, p. 243.

the sinking sun
sets the river on fire
blaze orange

RIVER
A river without islands is like a woman without hair. She may be good and pure, but one doesn't fall in love with her very often

Mark Twain

I wasn't sure where to put this... so I'll put it here, first

flap
flap
flap your wings

pelicans
pelicans
on a south bound wind

tickle the sky
with feathers out wide

pelicans
pelicans
flap flap and fly

boyant in air
as you are in the water

pelicans
pelicans
going where the air is warmer

flap flap flap away
pelicans
pelicans
of Pelican Bay

do weep evening sky
sunlight slips beyond your grasp
beat back by your tears

sun slips toward sky;
light painting its way across
these morning shadows

small islands under my foot

strawberry scented
dark waves cascade down her back
and through my fingers

- or -

strawberry ocean
scented waves cascade across
her soft white shoulders
