Hehe.

You're discussing American societal views with one person not from America and not understanding of the prejudices in general, and another who couldn't give two shits less about societal prejudices and acceptable rules.

haha that would be me, I have no clue what I am talking about probably :D

1. the things I'm discussing happen everywhere
2. Its easy to not care about societal prejudices when you are on the 'right' end of them. How convenient and pleasant for you.

We are probably on the right end of the societal prejudices, maybe that's why we can't see if something is actually wrong.

I guess we are all here to have fun and enjoy ourselves, solving the problems of the world is most likely beyond our capacity, so let's enjoy our time and while we're at it, maybe we can get back to the actual topic of the thread, and Seranova here can be so nice and tell us about his adventures :)

Why do I even bother some days...

1. Every country's culture is different, as are their social developments and practices.
2. I'm never on the 'right' end of anything. I think politically correct is a joke, the current education and labor practices a sham, the government (both sides in our country, at least) are a bunch of incompetent morons (and thus, conspiracy theorists even bigger morons), and don't believe anyone of any race, religion, or gender, is greater or less than anyone else.

The point is, I always have a different opinion than most everyone else.

Because it is fun for us to read?

Another new face in the thread, welcome welcome :)

Yeah actually minx is to blame for all this. We should hunt her down

Since you offered articles that summarize the topic so well, we can read them and see what's your point of view in more detail. For me I will read them.

BTW, its this same attitude that says rape humor is A-OK.

It is ok??????????????? Geeez......

I was going to comment on your writing, Vail, but things took a different turn...

For the record, I have used terms that I have been less than proud of, but constantly work to rectify that. The permeation of ways of thinking into culture mean that you don't know what is right and wrong - especially if it doesn't suit you. If you're white, educated and a guy - most times it won't suit you. But you need to realise that you have relationships with people and it's hypocritical to say "he/she's not bad for a ......(insert minority or oppressed group). If you don't open your eyes and thinking to how it feels to be labelled or even ignored in certain ways, then how can you honestly say you can value your mother/sister/wife/girlfriend/friend/daughter/son etc etc etc if they are female, of a different ethnic background, of a different socio-economic scale, disabled and so on?

I obviously can't argue it as eloquently as Vail - as I was always on the "right end" of it - but I noticed as I grew up - eventually - that some of my friends never got the same breaks or kudos. If I was smart or good at school it was because I worked hard and was intelligent, not because I was hot-housed by my parents (Asian friends), if I was good at sport it was because I worked hard not because I was just made that way (my black friends) and if I got a good job it was because I worked hard and was good at it not because it was given to me (my female colleagues). A guy is family oriented if he takes time off to look after his kids, but a woman is just a liability and not committed. All these little things add up.......

And why should a woman take it as a compliment that we use a term that means "young" to describe her? Fuck me, I've said good girl probably 456563 times - doesn't mean it's right. So "young" is a compliment, so mature is a....uh oh. I don't want anyone to think I'm young - I earnt every scar, wrinkle, bit of knowledge I have the hard way - I want you to know it!!! ;)

It took me a long time to try and make sense of all this and I still don't fully because I'm on the other end of the stick - the "right end". And I appreciate the Vails of this world giving me a little kick up the ass to remind me - we need reminding - I do anyway.

I was going to write about writing (and try and stroke Vail's ego because I need another Rebecca fix) but then felt compelled to put my 20 cents in.

Sorry.

Back to fluffy shit................

Vail - Write a fucking Bec now, or I'll get really offensive and refer to you as a "painfully slow writer."

This is exactly my point. Society (women and men being just as guilty on this one) have glorified age with males, as wisdom, intelligence, character... but done the opposite for females, glorifying youth, vibrancy, fertility...

This is why I stand by the fact that society is led by fucktards.

Nothing about society should dictate how two people view phrases shared between them. Hence there is nothing wrong with any phrase that concerned parties accept and enjoy when referring to each other, nor should anyone dictate that there is.

Extreme case in point, using Vail's example. Let's say a black and white man are blissfully ignorant of the prejudiced connotation behind the word boy, and use it on a regular basis amongst themselves, back and forth. What happens when a third party hears the white man call the other boy? They get up in arms, proceeding to inform them of how wrong it is, creating a prejudice where before there wasn't even a shred of it. Did either party do anything wrong? Not in my opinion. Will their friendship be potentially damaged beyond repair? Its quite possible.

Granted, extreme example.

The context and intent I ever use "good girl" in is with people that I know, understand, and know that they are comfortable and accepting of it. I use it in an endearing fashion, and I have never once had a problem with it. Try to tell me that's wrong? I will say go fuck yourself every time.

1. Yes, if everything were perfect and everything happened in a bubble, then yes, everything would be perfect and everything would hppen in a bubble. However, neither of those is the case.

2. It is also obvious especially fmor your last sentence that you aren't actually reading what I'm writing, so I guess that explains quite a bit.

I did read what you wrote, and that's what confuses me the most. On one hand, you say its okay between two people, then you turn around and say it's only okay because society says it is, and that makes it wrong?

This whole thing started because one person would have been offended for his own reasons. And he's entitled to them, and should be respected for them. But it seems that during this discussion the entire phrase was generalized and classified as wrong because of societal view. Which is why my point in this discussion is that society should never, ever have a say in how two or more people enjoy or mutually understand each other.

As far as why society has accepted it? Who cares? Let society do its own thing. They've certainly fucked up enough to make me believe that they're never headed in the right direction, anyways.

Thats not even remotely close to what I said.

That was entertaining.
Vail's right BTW, just so y'all are aware.
And I am trying to make my way back here, I'm currently writing with CT, The Fighter, and I'll prolly pick up one or two more. I would love to be working on Massacre, but it's not my turn right now. Though I could create another char (which I wouldn't mind). I don't think that thread should die.

My dead threads are all in my signature, go crazy.

You don't call, write, or visit. Are we breaking up?

Scratches my head at all the hububaloo.

Getting back on topic how many slow posting long term threads do people have compared to the quick posting ones? I'm just curious as to the average ratio.

Out of the 17 active threads i have I would say 3 are definite long posts, the rest are more medium to small depending on what i have to work with.

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll that was a fun read.....
