I totally agree with you there...I'm an elementary school teacher and oh my god is respect missing these days. I remember when I was little and if I even said one bad word in front of my mom.....whoa...

if my mom caught being disrespectful i would not be able to sit down even now that im 33

I know, I know...I've answered too many times, but I finally came up with what I truly would want to pass on...lol

The knowledge that no matter what they had, or did, or said....or whatever became of their life, I would always love them unconditionally.

After all, everything else is just window dressing for that.

I'll be quiet now. :)

The last sentence....:D j/k:eek:

Just two things...

Tolerance and acceptance

With those two qualities, there would be no wars, no religious fights and we would all get on together.

LOL....man, abused by people left and right.....geeeeeez...

Common sense... so many people seem to lack it. When it can help them utilize their abilities to the best of their advatage.

I've always wanted children but do not have any. However, I was a nanny as a teen and have raised my brother...the importance of honesty is something that I would teach any child in my life. We are only as good as our word, and without honesty there is no trust, without trust there is nothing.
Also, if I had children of my own and wanted to pass onto them something of me, it would be to always balance logic with passion.

sacrifice

i am only twenty and my son is just about two. While i regret nothing that lead to his creation i would like him to have my understanding of sacrifice. I've given up a lot for him and would do it the same way a million times over, he is my life and the greatest thing that ever happened to me. However i did miss a lot that life has to offer me.
Hopefully he will grow up to be a much more responsible person than i am with an appreciation of what it means to be a parent and an adult.(whatever that means).

One thing I would want to pass on to my children is the ability to believe in themselves so they can choose the lifestyles and desires that will make them the happiest.
I would also hope to pass on honesty, tolerance, empathy and the strength to stand up for what they believe in.

answer.....

If you could pass one thing on to your child(ren) what would it be?

I am trying to teach my son, ( who is 6) to fight for what he believes in, right or wrong no matter what anyone tells, him, and to never give up till he gets it, or settle for less than what he wants......
I think if I can I still that, I've done my duty as a FATHER to prepair him for life.

There are many things i'd like to pass on to my daughters.

love of your family - You don't get to pick your family, but know that the love is unconditional. I tell them that while I may not like what they are doing or the choices they make...I will always love them..

The love of the Sea and the Outdoors- Treat them with respect it all we have.

a quote from Jimmy Buffett sums it up simply:

And some of the things I've seen
Maybe she won't have to see
But there's a lot I want to pass along
That was handed down to me
