Matriarch's Gallery

Kcar, thank you so much for your comments.

Glad you enjoyed my work.

You've made me realise how slack I've been, time I put some new ones up.

:)

I look forward to seeing more of your pictures!

I also have some artwork in here. :) I'm 51, btw, so I'm a bit of a matriarch meself. :D

Thanks for sharing ...

Matriarch ... just ran across your thread. Thanks for sharing your work ...

Does anyone else find that with representational subjects in drawing and photography, they feel like they are good at capturing "things" or "people" but not both?

For example, I do fairly well photographing (or sketching) people ... but absolutely suck at things like architectural photography.

Just musing ...

I know what you mean. I always felt that way about my drawing work, people, plants, flowers, fruits were all pretty ok, but when it came to buildings I tended to get bogged down in the minutae of the piece. Not so if using a camera. It takes care of all that, and I can simply concentrate on angles, light reflection, etc. I don't think it works out too bad either.

This one was taken last May, during my visit to New York.

enjoyed walking through your gallery

will drop back by and hope to see more

At last a few more.....taken around Rose Cottage in the last few weeks. Some on an evening walk across freshly harvested fields, and one in the garden.

I've been kind of busy getting married and hosting visitors to take many.

Enjoy.

Pics 1, 4, and 5 made me drool... I lived on a place like that when I was young. Those sprawling feilds of mowed wheat and wild grasses. Very, very beautiful...I also love the light...that grey blue over the pale ochre fields, the long shadows.

5 is just so charming...nice mood in it.

Thank you, but not upcoming, happened on 3 September. There's two threads, 'Affirmation of Love' by Lucky e leven, and I've started one 'Min and Mat's wedding. By request', which is still a wip.

A few more for the gallery, mostly taken on recent walks around the surrounding villages.

Next village along from us, has a most unusual church. Very old if the stonework is anything to go by, a beautiful example of a lych-gate at the entrance, and a most unusual bell-tower, rather than a spire, where the two bells are quite visible outside. It also had a gorgeous old stone wall, generously covered in ivy tendrils. Made a delightful picture.

Yesterday the annual ploughing match was held in a farm nearby, so we included a free view from the road as we passed, on one of our walks. It really was a bizarre sight. Lots and lots of tractors of all ages and sizes ploughing up and down their allotted piece of field, watched intently by the spectators. These two pics show just a small part of the proceedings.

I found the surrounding fields and houses much more to my taste. :)

Hello Mat,

All of your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I love the pastel drawing too. What type of pastels did you use? I have a set of oil pastels that someone gave me that I'm tempted to break out.

Hi Catalina, My apologies for not responding before, I just don;t seem to have had the time to drop back in here.

Thank you, the sunset is one of my favourites, as are any of my pictures which involve natural light. Can't beat nature.

Went for a walk around a local botanic garden today with my eldest sprog and his all singing, all dancing camera.....I just had my point a click digital, but it works for me. In the process of resizing some of them, I'll be posting them later.

Hi Gentle, my apologies to you also for my late response. All the pastels I use are oil based, easy to use, but my chosen medium is still pencils.

Get them out and go for it. It's great fun, and the results can be more than you expect.

Very nice picture, are you using a UV filter?

Never use any kind of filters whatsoever, I just use a simple Fuji digital camera. I like the fact that I can point the camera at the sun and it doesn't cause any problems with the result.

Some new pics taken on a walk round a local botanical garden today, accompanied by my eldest sprog.

The south border of the garden runs along a clifftop looking down over the sea, and from a viewpoint on the cliff edge, under the trees, there was a wonderful view of the cliffs and rocky bays. We could hear a lot of cheering and clapping, and a closer look of the further bay showed a wedding party in full swing (picture 5). If you look carefully you can see people in formal clothes all along the promenade. What a fabulous setting for a wedding party. The weather was glorious, bright blue, cloudless sky, sun glinting on the still, blue water, brilliant sunshine.....

Thank you, glad you like them. It's a lot of fun taking them and seeing the results.

Well goodness me, i t's been an age since I posted on here.

Wife and I took a road trip today and visited Stonehenge. Some of our zillion pictures attached.

The day was bright and sunny, if somewhat cold, but the sun gave us so much scope for pictures, as we circled the whole site, getting shadows in all different directions.

Picture 5 is one of the Avenue stones, and Min decided it looked like a giant foot, looking at the sole, with the heel stuck in the ground..........you decide.

:)
