Clyburn: Tim Scott Winning Senate Seat Doesn’t Count As “Progress” For Blacks Because He’s A Republican…

Shorter James Clyburn: Tim Scott wandered off the Dem plantation.

Via Mediaite:

On Tuesday evening, interim Republican Sen. Tim Scott won South Carolina’s special election to fill the remaining two years of retired Sen. Jim DeMint‘s term. Despite that electoral victory making Scott the first black senator elected by South Carolina, fellow South Carolinian James Clyburn is not impressed.

Speaking with the Washington Post, Clyburn, who is a black Democratic congressman, said:

“If you call progress electing a person with the pigmentation that he has, who votes against the interest and aspirations of 95 percent of the black people in South Carolina, then I guess that’s progress.”

Racist Dem Charlie Rangel: White GOP House Members Think They Have A Sense Of “Racial Superiority”…

More on this story.

Via The Hill:

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday charged that a handful of House members have a sense of “racial superiority.”

Rangel appeared to double down on comments he made last week that some Republicans think “slavery isn’t over.”

Rangel, in an interview Wednesday afternoon on CNN, said that despite the country having a black president and an “explosive number” of African-American and other minority members of Congress, race remains an issue among a “handful” of Republicans.

“We all know who they are and where they’re from. So maybe ‘slavery’ was the wrong word, but racial superiority, unfortunately, is the disease that a handful of people have, and they were holding back the Republican majority in the House of Representatives,” Rangel said.

Yeah well I didn't mean it that way in any shape or form, and I'm tired of liberals and other PC racists developing lists of innocuous words like "articulate," historically complimentary anywhere else, that all of a sudden white people cannot use to describe black folks.

If I said that Jimmy Carter was less articulate than Bill Clinton, nobody would put a racial connotation on it. It's because racists like Zumi and other PC types have already decided that black folks are not articulate, that they can even begin to reason that such a description has to have a racial connotation.

To be fair, she is more articulate than 99% of your racist cronies you give hall passes to.

That's all that means to be said, really. Intention is a big part of it. Sometimes all you need to do is clarify.

This sort of thing is not new to me, which is why it's on my radar. I had these conversations twenty years ago back in college, when I was a half-hippy stoner taking some sociology filler in school. ;)

Casual speech transforms over time, and while you may not have meant it that way, it's easy to see how it was perceived.

I tend to believe people over think this stuff, honestly . . . but it never hurts to just clarify instead of going on the attack.

I understand that, and I really don't care. Nor do I intend to allow myself to be held responsible for the flights of fancy that the lunatic fringe and the street hustlers concoct. The English language has already lost far too many perfectly good and useful words to the street urchins that thought it was clever to use those words as 'code words' for some other aspect of life. Queer and Gay are two such words that have fallen prey to the street slang artists.

So I feel no discomfort at all in taking back the language, even if it discomforts others. There is no sense or logic in allowing the lowest common denominators of society to dictate what words the educated can or cannot use.

The fact of the matter is that Mrs. Love IS articulate. She exhibits a broad vocabulary and knows how to use it. And does so unapologetically. Perhaps those that take umbrage with the word believe that vette was signaling that she doesn't have a noticeable south side Philly accent. But there are example after example of black Americans that DO have a noticeable south side Philly (or equivalent) accent and yet are still eminently articulate. How should we refer to them? "They speak gooder"? Gooder than what? Quite frankly I think that any word or phrase that a white person might use to complement a black person on their command of the language would be interpreted by the gutter snipes as some sort of 'code.' Fuck'em.

Ishmael

"Fuck 'em" is the problem. That's why we can never have these sort of conversations. Someone takes offense, justified or not, and the shit starts being flung. And no one bothers to clarify anything.

Reminds me why I stopped posting in these threads. :)

"Shuck N' Jive" Care, right, Ishy?

White people never get this shit. Ever.

Fuck you, fuck Vette and fuck all your fucking tossed cookies. There's your fucking interpretations.

I'm getting tired of those two presumptuous pricks, trying to play the race card on the word "articulate." Fucking stupid.

Harry Reid, in the early days of the Obama administration said that Obama is clean cut and speaks good english....or something to that effect.

Ted Cruz is articulate, Charlie Rangel in not.

Well if they're posting here they obviously have access to the on-line dictionary. And if they are in doubt as to what the poster meant they can most certainly ask for clarification as most reasonable people would do. But there is a core group here, and elsewhere, that are NOT going to ask for clarification because that clarification may not fit their agenda. So they act as mind readers in the most negative context.

No matter what you say or how you say it they absolutely "know" what you really meant and feel free to tell the world. And I know that you've seen that and I suspect that is just one of your frustrations with the GB denizens.

So with the above being the case why should I, or anyone else for that matter, give a rats ass about what they have decided to read from our minds? Unless they are remarking on the most obvious of sleights or slanders it's just so much gibberish to me.

I doubt that Clyburn has a clue of what the interests and aspirations of the Blacks are.i

Ish is just impressed that Mia Love can get through a speech without calling someone a "dicklick."

Well, how many voted for him? That should be easy enough to check.

we aren't impressed that Obala cant say anything but UMM without a TP

It exists, Ish. You can argue that Vette did not mean it as such, but words like "articulate" and "well-spoken" have been used in an often unintentionally racist way for years. I've heard it time and again used to describe minorities. And even when meant as a compliment, the connotation is, "this minority is unusual because he speaks so well."

...and as soon as I see anyone on the left calling out Harry Reid for the racist buffoon he is who did mean exactly that I will consider taking positive "dog whistles" seriously.

Democrat and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said:
"He is a light skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one"

It took Reid until 2010 to issue an apology for the remark which was graciously and publicly accepted the very same day by the President.

Zumi argued with me for two weeks that some racial stereotypes, though clearly with a racial component are intended to be positive. Wrong-headed that they may be.

He gave zero fucks about RacistDownSouth's "racist trope" about how he has a black friend that made a joke about how blacks cannot swim.

Cry me some crocodile tears.

-----------------------------------------------------

I, for one, an delighted to have a conservative black woman from a lily-white state to be the poster child for how inaccurate the Democrats false narrative is... about them being the protector of black folks for the last 200 years as they claim.

They briefly re-branded and hurled mud that rightly belonged stuck to them and it worked, as a lot of advertising does.

It does not hurt that she is going to be far and away the most articulate of the 20 black women in congress, that she will be shunned by the "black" caucus, and that she is nice to look at.

Blacks are not liberal on a lot of issues. Plenty of blacks have a very conservative point of view. I don't happen to think the agenda of "social conservatives" is actually conservative, but blacks agree with those conservatives more than rabid liberals.

I suspect I will like her politics, but even if she is not of my particular stripe of non-liberal, the conniptions she is going to cause liberals is well worth the price of admission.

When did I argue about that? Oh wait...if this is about your Jamaal shit, yeah, you got your cards pulled on that rightly so. And it wasn't just me canceling your credit, either.

I know what Rob's about, though. You, on the other hand, love to hear yourself talk. Even when you're fucking wrong.

Crocodile tear that.

I wonder if the 'Congressional Black Caucus' is going to let her in?

Ishmael

Nope.

Is it just me who thinks her name sounds like a Thai Bond girl?

Ha.

Even better.

I just noticed something else from the OP:

She is a black woman under 40.

That’s all that matters.

I thought conservatives HATED this sort of thing?

The fact that that demographic votes lock-step liberal is the point of contention. Not their age, gender or race.

Seems to me the GOP is constantly fielding new rockstars, that they pour all their hopes and dreams into, until they get exposed to the elements that is national scrutiny and starts to corrode.

Mixed metaphors FTW.

By "national scrutiny" you mean an insidious campaign of smear, innuendo and backstabbing that will definitely be launched against her.

Something any good liberal should decry, but not only won't, will gleefully participate in.

You win the *Tin Foil Hat of the Day* award.

It's an odd day when i find myself in complete agreement with disgusted.

From the amount of wingnut jizz being spilled, I can see where you might have gotten that idea.

I laughed

On topic, it is impressive to me. I don't buy the arguments that she only won by x amount of votes, or it being an "off year". Winning is winning, and she's earned it.

But there is a lot more work to do if the Republicans really want to attract minorities to their cause. Just the fact that this thread was made and commented on shows just how far the GOP has to go. The goal is not just to elect minorities, but to be a party that minorities want to vote for. Without the latter you may never win the Presidency again.

Personally, I hope they do start to attract more minorities to their cause. There is a lot to like about conservatism, but the GOP has to get out of it's own way first.

True that. They get nowhere posing as Democrat Lite. The social conservative BS has to go. You cannot want government out of your lives and intervening the "right" way on social issues.

There is nothing liberals hate more than a conservative black female.

..unless it is a pretty and articulate, conservative black woman.

When did I argue about that? Oh wait...if this is about your Jamaal shit, yeah, you got your cards pulled on that rightly so. And it wasn't just me canceling your credit, either.

Yeah. I get it. Rob is on the approved racist list. Vette is not insulting Love, but he needs to be called out NOW, Rob IS insulting all blacks, but his little liberal dick is in the right hole.

As to the "real black" trope of yours because she prefers to straiten her hair for her own reasons, it just goes to show what a racist you are that you, alone, get to choose what is verity, as you articulately like to put it.

Toubab: And I do consider her to be black, despite her relaxed hair.

Unfuckingbelievable. Some of you can't follow a fucking thread to save your lives.

Read this, idiot:

"I bet she wouldn't have won if her hair wasn't relaxed. You fuckers couldn't stand real blackness if it put itself in front of your faces."
