Good to hear.
Can I ask if you were told which strain of HPV you have which has lead to the cancer? I've just had my 3rd Gardasil jab. My specialist gyno suggested Gardasil over Cervarix, but my GP suggested Cervarix. I spoke to my pharmacist - she'd had the Gardasil, and that is what I selected.
Gardasil - recommended for the younger girls (protects against HPV types 11, 16, 18, 6 - where types 11 and 6 are responsible for 90% of genital warts).
Cervarix - recommended for older women (protects against HPV types 16 and 18 which are responsible for 70% of cervical cancers)
What I want to know is - why on earth couldn't they combine the two!?! The pharmacist basically said that it was two different companies competing for sales. Pity, it would be nice to think that pharmaceutical companies were trying to find metter medicines and save lives.
No they didn't tell me what strain it was. If Gardasil covers 16 and 18, and genital warts I'd say it's the way to go.
When I looked at why they don't combine them, this is what I found.
One of the reasons there is no super combo is because DIFFERENT antigens 1. May interfere with one another (dtap to HepB) 2. they often have different intervals between shots. 3. If a patient had a reaction it would be difficult, if not impossible to know which one caused the AE.
