"On the Job" Story Event 2024

18 hours in pending and counting, guess my luck of being reviewed in under 8 hours ran out on the last challenge.

Then again, if there’s anyone deserving of a mental health break - it’s literotica mods, if not before - then after reading the two highly questionable stories that I’ve submitted for this event. So, not even angry, just curious to see if either of them will be sent back :)

I don't know if they're still adhering to this, but at one point Laurel was not releasing contest/challenge stories on the weekends, especially Sundays.

Having used the tag link, I can see five were pubished yesterday (20th) but possibly she has a day off on Sunday?

Two things you might want to know on this. There is only one submissions editor--Laurel--and she doesn't really have time to do more than lightly scan entries.

The more and more I do these events, the more I really hate the Lit rating system. I watch my stories slowly descend from 4.7s to 4.4s every time. Idk if its because people looking at event stories have expectations for themes or what.

Tbh if there was no red H as a mark then I think it would be easier to stomach. I’m willing to bet there are sour grapes out there that see the red H and downvote it in spite.

It is annoying... my 27 page epic was heading for an H (which would have been just as epic) then got 1 bombed and is just outside now.

My on the job one had a couple of low votes right at the start, but has slowly crept up. I didn't think it would get the H, but those votes didn't help any.

If the H threshold was slightly lower it would help counter the unobombers.

Making jobs sexy is harder even than making portable toilet sex appealing.
I actually once had sex in a portable toilet at an EDM festival, and it was actually pretty hot...not romantic, of course, but your comment certainly conjured up a nice memory. 😌

PJ - you’re not wrong. It is for the readers. You and I and every other writer exist, in one sense, to please them.

That’s not a bad thing, though. Yes, the jejune antics of the trolls are frustrating, but only to the degree we the writers allow ourselves to be frustrated. Meanwhile, we have an opportunity to spread the joy.

Hang in there. 🌷

Wise words <3 thanks for the encouragement :3

Idk, today I am just struggling with the idea of fuckit and realizing this site isnt for the authors, its for the readers and writing whatever :/
Just thinking out loud here: would it help, if this site had a separate authors-only questionnaire where every author who submitted a story would have to vote ("like"), rate (1-5), or review at least two other stories from the challenge, if they wanted their own story to be published in the final results? Like, the prize and places are still decided by the troll-prone user vote, but at least to themselves authors would have a second system with separate metrics to track their own progress.

Then again, it could backfire hard if someone didn't get appraisal they'd expected, and lead to even worse quarrels between authors, so, maybe that's not so good idea after all.

On an unrelated note, it probably says something about me (and nothing good apparently), that my first attempt at writing "on the job" story resulted in an Erotic Horror creation, that was rejected and sent back due to violation of "excessive violence / snuff" rule. And now that I think about it, I do feel like an asshole for forcing Laurel to review that kind of stuff.

Luckily, I had submitted a second story in "BDSM" genre, and at least that got through (even though I had my doubts about that one too), so there's some last-minute contribution.

Do scores matter much in these events? There's no actual winner is there?
