OOC for "the River Runs Red"

The channel goes black and flickers for a second, the background for WKRP’s nightly news desk pops on the screen interrupting the Tuesday Night Movie of the Week, which was boring as hell watching a commercial censored gritty cut version of Kick boxer.

“Sorry for the interruption folks, we’re going live to Cathy Meeks at the scene of a … well words can’t even describe what we’re seeing on the monitors. Cathy?” The camera blips out the chiseled rugged features of the news anchor to an exotic looking middle aged woman standing before a three story brick building of some kind.

“We’re live here at fifty two ten anchor pier, with what looks like some kind of human trafficking or perhaps prostitution ring gone awry. The police aren’t telling any one much but so far the body count is at ten and I’m told there are more inside.” Her face grim, lips pressed together in disproval as her camera man pans over to the coroner’s vans, ambulances and bagged bodies resting on the grass.

“Sources say that several may have died of what appears to be over doses of some new drug as cases were found inside this old residence from Ver’idian Enterprises, company unknown at this time. Empty vials of unidentified substances, and unmarked tubes of a medical sort were all over several bedroom floors. Two bodies within were said to be hacked apart and one has to wonder if the Haven Park Killer is progressing into more violent tendencies as suggested last week.” She pauses so the news station can show a clip of Dr. Rick Stevens discussing how, if left at large, this man’s criminal behavior will escalate into even more violence than shown before. The camera man continues to follow the comings and goings of a few detectives talking across the crime scene, out of hearing distance of others and ending with panning across the river to the tall steel and glass towers of the Lafeyette Center.

“Not much is known for sure at this time, there is just so much chaos down here and it is said that the mayor is coming to check for his niece among the dead. Another source has stated that two intact bodies were found bloodless in the basement of the building. While we urge people not to panic, please remember to remain indoors after dusk until the curfew is lifted or the killer.. or killers caught.”

very nice, very nice, i can see this is going to be one fun thread

anyway, heres what i have as a character so far, still a work in progress, but it gives a good account of how he became a vampire

Name: Isaac Redgrave
Race: Vampire
Height: 6ft
Appearance:
Sexual preference: Straight
Age: 504
Profession: Trader/arms dealer/mercenary/shop owner

History:
During Isaac’s early human life, he was ostracized by what passed for ‘civilized’ society in those times due to his appearance, but luckily for him he lived in a port town, and eventually fell in with a group of pirates who saw a sort of kindred spirit in the unruly young lad.

A killer instinct and one hell of a violent streak helped him climb up through the ranks and eventually become captain of the ship, after the previous captain died to an infection. After a few years of terrorizing the seas, in which time he made quite a name for himself as an exceptionally violent man when opposed, as well as being quite a tactical mastermind, he stopped in at a port and stole the heart of the wrong woman.

He had hit on a young and newly turned vampire, and somehow managed to sweep her off her feet, she was the unwilling plaything of an older and more experienced vampire, and decided that she wanted Isaac for herself, she turned him that night.

He was rather confused when he awoke, but his ‘beloved’ explained it to him, slowly, and quite a few times until he understood, at that point he want sure how he felt about his new state of being, but his sires master did, as far as he was concerned there was just a little to much life left in his undead body and decided to do him a favor by stamping it out.

The two fought, at first it seemed Isaac had the upper hand, but the vampire knew more of their limits, and had more than just physical strength on his side, quickly turning the tide with strange powers. Isaac was used to playing the underdog though, so he adapted and bided his time, waiting until he had a clear shot before badly wounding the vampire and escaping in to the night.

Excellent beginning Kitten, I can only grin and imagine what kind of thread this will be with your character in it!

Present day, yes

General locations, central south United States, an arid country perhaps Utah?

And broomstick, hmmm... I think you might be a bit saddle sore, so take the red eye instead?

As for arriving, Talon will be in Lana's lounge when the "news flash" occurs, then will try to find out the facts behind the slaughter... So the thread will start there, if that helps you position your character?

Um... Hello? I was told to visit... and here I am.
She takes a bow...
I hope I may join the cast for this production of The River Runs Red and offer a bio for my character....

Name: Mayakavosky Romanov (Maya for short)
Race: Human (and possibly something else?)
Weight: 125lbs
Height: 5'5 (For those who don't "see" her visually)
Sexual preferences: Can be bisexual if the circumstances are right.

Bio/abilities:

1. A latent awakening has given her the curse as a 'Faceless Witch'. No one remembers her original appearance anymore. Instead, one will see the person they most want to see. (Whether it be lover, relative or enemy... or someone else.) This is something she cannot control.

2. If she sets up a perimeter, her "Secret Garden", upon entering the area, one will see the person they most want to see in a place they most want to see the said person.

3. Given a personal item, depending on how close the item was to a person, she can find the said owner. Within her Secret Garden, she can visually show (briefly) where the person is and what they are doing. It is a line of business for her, a way to make a living.

4. She manipulates memory under the consent of the client. She can take memories away from a client, if she maintains physical contact, amplify specific memories, and insert memories taken from somewhere else in. (Inserting memories can be removed if it is too over powered.) A lot of times, in addition to a financial payment, she will demand a payment in memories as well.

Maya has set up an agency of sorts where she helps clients search for hard to track down individuals. She is the embodiment of "believe what you see". The illusions she gives affect sight, sound and smell, of which the strongest would be sight.

I wasn't sure if this is too much for a character to have. I was hoping to balance out the lack of 'superhuman strength/speed'.

From this standpoint it would be safe to say that she'll be a minor character. Though it stands to reason that she can stir up a helluva lot of tension if she feels up for the task.

Fantastic beginning VT, leaves plenty of options and avenues...and....

Welcome:rose:

I thought to clarify... what someone would see...

Probably the only sort of person that will see her normally is someone who's blind, who doesn't have the preconceived notion of what they think she looks like.

Think of it as your mind filling in the blanks of what your eyes see, ears hear and nose smell.

An example -

Once more he entered her Garden. His entire being relaxed to the familiar smell of incense in the air... even being told that none of this was real he couldn't help but admire the heavy columns that supported the rising eaves of the small temple. It was where he first saw her.

The priestess that stood before the altar turned to greet him. The whisper of her hakama broke his control as he rushed to embrace the woman he loved. The soft fabric just as he always remembered, and the silken hair as he rested his cheek upon her head brought tears.

"Are you prepared to pay the price for this search?" Maya asked in a voice that was none other than the Tomoyo he'd been dying to hear.

The question was received with a jerky nod as he pulled the red ribbon from his pocket. Tomoyo was never without it... until the day the temple was destroyed and she disappeared.

Maya took the ribbon from his hand as she placed her other hand upon his cheek.

Upon contact, the room vanished to reveal the woman he called Tomoyo. Events flashed through the room as they watched the slavers shackle the chains around her wrists and collar...

Time moved forward at a rapid pace, skritching to a standstill as the bars appeared in the room. The man watched in utter disbelief as the brute before him savaged the priestess he had so cherished. He reached out to stop the scene before him but his hands merely passed through...

"I cannot maintain this connection for long...." There was a touch of strain in Maya's voice, "go search for clues of where this place might be."

The man forced himself to look away, turning instead to the small window to search for a landmark.... and saw the sign Carnal Knowledge across the streets.

"I think I can find her." He spoke between gritted teeth as he hazarded one more look at his Tomoyo... before everything faded back to the temple once more.

Maya's hand lifted to his forehead and with a soft flare of light, a gem coalesced in her hand. "There. I've taken my price... and you should have just enough to find your Tomoyo."

He dropped his head into his hands as he suddenly found blanks in the timeline of his memory. Why did this temple feel so important? the woman before him precious? Somewhere in the depths of his being he remembered loving her, remembered the emotions that were tied to her, but he couldn't find a single piece of that within his memory.... except for that last moment the faceless witch has shown him... bars... Carnal Knowledge... and the brute that ravaged the woman he cared for - Tomoyo.

_________________________

OOC- Reading memories is merely being able to see things that occur. It does not mean the thoughts or the process that goes behind those movements are apparent.

'Search' is an illusion. It merely allows sight (and sound) of whats happening. As seen in the example, you cannot touch the events that occur.

However a difference is the first entry into the Secret Garden. The clothes he thinks Maya is wearing feels completely real, had he turned to touch the altar or the columns, he'd be able to feel the grain of the wood... etc, whereas she will only see him as touching something invisible. Maya cannot see what the Secret Garden looks like in his eyes unless she enacts a search.

If he steps out of the perimeter she's set up as the Garden, the entire location will vanish and he will see only Maya in whatever form he saw her as. (so even though you might see an endless desert, should you wander too far, it'll just vanish.)
