Darn can't get webshots to work

Guess I will have to start a my space page, or try some other website for posting pictures.
Darn MAC. It is a love hate relationship. So for now I am stuck to saving out small jpegs.
I took this one from the car this weekend when visiting my sister. With the small
camera, not much of a zoom *pout*
They had a light dusting of snow, But got pounded yesterday.

i never used myspace, but i'd think a real webalbum just for photos is nicer than those sites like myspace. but maybe i am just prejudiced... i like flickr - it isn't so nice layout wise, but you can join photo groups, and there is a lot of photo discussion going on. webshots i don't like as much since they (at least used to) make the photos smaller (in flickr they store them in original size)... layout-wise i always thought pbase looks kind of nice... but of course there are lots of others, these are just the ones i know best...

Thanks I will definitely check them out.
Webshots is ok. And the my space my friends have been hounding me about.

does webshots store them in the original size these days? because the problem with how they used to downsize them wasn't only the quality when i posted them somewhere, but also that if i lose a picture for some reason, on flickr i can download it from my own site, and have it in the same original size again...

as for myspace - that is exactly the reason why i avoid it. all those sites that friends and acquaintances keep telling me i need to get (myspace, facebook, etc.) i don't want to get. they look like time wasters to me (and i waste enough time in forums etc.) and i just think that whoever wants to keep in touch with me can do so without some site to help them...

but that is just my opinion, of course...

So far I have been able to upload to webshots about an 8 meg image. I haven't tried larger. But I haven't been able to post the link to the image in this site yet. But If I lose the quality then there is no point. Saving out the images as small little jepgs suck. Still a work in progress.

As for the my space page I kind of agree with you. I really don't want another place to check for mail etc... I am on a few boards and that is enough. I spend too much on a PC as it is at work.

and the 8 mb picture you uploaded, is it the same size on their? because the once i used to upload where big (well usually not quite that big, but biggish) but they ended up being downsized automatically there. but that all was years ago, i've been on flickr for ages now...

Here, another flower:

Damn your good. I have never tried close ups or flowers. Need a macro lens. Now I am going to have go and check.
But it seems like Flicker maybe the way to go.

thanks! your pictures are very nice too!

yeah well i like flickr... btw, if you chose flickr and want to post pictures - delete the last few signs of the adress (?v=0), else the picture won't show up...

flowers are actually quite easy to take pictures of, provided there is enough light and all... this and some other pictures i took in my mom's garden last fall, and i was quite happy with how they turned out... i don't have a macro lense either, they were big enough to take with a normal lense... i guess the important thing is to spend some attention to the background so the colours come out nicely, and the composition - in rest, if the flowers are nice, the picture will be nice...

Here is another one from the same day...

That one has a quality to it that makes it look like it's an entire bouquet of flowers, all wrapped up in one singular flower.

Well I am trying flickr now. And will try to post a pic.
I am always rushed when I take pictures. When I take my time and am alone I get good shots now and then. When I travel I am mostly with friends etc.. and they can be inpatient. So I snap pics when I can. I have just started taking digital pics the last year or so. I have slides and film.

Nope no luck this I what I tried to paste

nice picture... where is it? can one climb that rock there?

what you should do is: go to the flickr site that shows the picture (not all sizes, just the normal picture), left click. If you are using internet explorer, go to properties, and copy the address from there. if you are using mozilla, go to "copy grafic adress" or something like that (don't know what it says in english)... then go back here, click on the image icon on top of the reply box (the one that shows like a little postcard with mountains on it, in between the link and the quote icons), and paste the address there, and delete the ?v=0 part...

at least this works when i do it...

Thank you . I figured it out. It is different for me I am on a MAC. One button mouse etc.. I was trying to use the options
menu on here to upload. ARGH. Yes you can climb the rocks. It is Zion Park in Utah. I have friends who live there.
This pic is Gruyere,CH. Ummm cheese, plus the Gieger bar is cool.

How's this one much bigger

And at this size you see the lighting was soft, as was some of the focus.
Have Merry Christmas :)

Thank you. I really should spend more time taking photos.
My friends and family bitch at me because I don't give
it my full attention. Right now I am trying to learn some 3d programs and it's kicking my butt.

I like hiking myself, not to much into drastic rock climbing.
I have no problems with heights though. I have sky dived and bungee jumped a few times. No repelling yet some day.
Hope your holidays were good.

And because I am a smart ass, and have a warped sense of humor. I just have to say this.If you fuck like you take pictures, I am sure you have no problems.

thanks...

That is some rock! More power to you.
That whole hanging by your fingers tips, nope not for me.
Here's a huge rock ,and you can get to it when the tide is just right.
Though I don't think anyone climbs it

looks cool! Wonder if the water at high tide would be deep enough for deep water soloing... though that isn't something i'd ever do, I don't like the idea of suddenly falling into the water...

The thing is, you don't actually hang that much on your finger tips. well, it depends on the route of course, on difficult ones or on overhangs you do sometimes, i suppose... but else, you climb a lot with your feet, and the hands are often more for balance... in the beginning one does rely a lot on the hands of course, but with the time you learn to rely on your feet instead...

Okay, this time not a rock:

Water soloing? Do mean like snokeling? (sp).
I don't mind climbing really. It's the over hangs
I can do without.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this
picture was The Potato Eaters series by Van Gogh.
The whole peeling thing. It is a very good image.
What is she peeling? Looks like a tiny pearl onion
or something.

This image is same place as the last.
It rained almost the whole time I was there.
Only a day or so did it clear up for a few hours.
I loved it.

wow, that is a beautiful picture! I like the clouds, the waves, the way the rocks look, the whole atmosphere!

deep water soloing is climbing above water, without ropes, so if you fall, you fall into the water... not something i'd do, as i said, much to scared for that...

yeah overhangs are tough, i am working on managing them better (indoors, so far), but i can't do them very well yet either.

yes, it was a small onion she was peeling...

Thanks. Those are my favorite kinds of pictures
I love it when it rains or storms. And by the ocean even better.
Right now that area has a ton of snow.
I am dying to go back.

Ah... Without ropes and no partner. I see now.

Here is one from back east, an old bridge pylon on the Potamac River.

I do love photography, though I am quite new to it. Hopefully in time I will get better, but here is a small sample. A Rose of Sharon blossom, probably the last one of the season.
