Well, the bill of rights as penned by the learned individuals who formed the basis for our nation weren't necessarily "laws of the U.S.".

They are essentially a recognition of things that each human individual is entitled to by just existing. Things that when taken away from us create a wrongness and evil upon us all.

So, did we need to invade Iraq? Afghanistan? Should we be ignoring the strife in the poor nations of Africa while securing the resources of richer nations? Should our military still be occupying nations all over the world?
