Portfolio of a Wallflower

Thanks ^ ^; I dunno... I've had trouble with putting in abstractions, so I keep trying to edit out thing that can be too general and aren't strong enough..

There is a balance that can be hard to find when writing anything, especially poetry. Sometimes you can focus too much at what doesn't work, it can be hard.

Very nice. I started off questioning the poem a bit, then read it deeper, and understood, then at the end was confused. Which, as far as I am concerned, is a good thing in a poem.
Oh? is it a big question mark or just a little wonder that's like "hmm.. there's something bigger there, just don't know what it is"?

Hmm.. how do you mean? are you talking about selective ignoring so you can enjoy a piece? or...

Well I think stories are interesting creatures, they always seem to have a life of their own. Sometimes as a writer I feel like certain things don't work out quite like you planned them to, and you want to wrestle the story/poem into what you want it to be. Often, it is better to leave it earlier then you might think would be ideal.

Example in movies, Star Wars. The original is a classic, loved by millions. Lucas then makes a director's cut and many feel like he ruined a good thing. Is this true? If the special editions came out first would people say the originals ruined the story? I don't know. But sometimes just letting go is the best thing to do with a finished piece.

lol I understand. I suppose I relate that most to art. I paint, so that's where I can see that most applicable.

There is a great line in the movie sic degrees of separation, "What makes the kids in the second grade so good, matieses every one of them, the first grade sploches, the third grade, drips, but the second grade..."

"I don't have a secret, I just know when to take the pice away from them."

Really more of a paraphrase then a quote, but you get the idea.

The poem reminds of one of those pictures that captures time. A picture I could stare at for hours; recalling the smells, remembering the events of the day all that lead up to the picture being taken. The tear wells up in my eye longing to relive that moment captured in time and printed on film.

I agree that the undressing while wearing a kimono can be sexy, look at the scenes in The Last Samurai and Memoires of a Geisha, both had some scenes where undressing was sexy. I'm sure seeing you do it would be the same.

bleh... this is something I wrote in class and I think I'm gonna use it for my portfolio, but there's still more to write before then.

Poem. Blarg.

I was four, camping indoors and dressing up with my cousin,
passing time while our grandparents were out on a fishing trip.
We dress like fairy-tale ladies and put on faces
of our new outer-selves for the camera.
Carmen roars as the bride of Frankenstein
and grabs hold of me,
while I smile, knowing I can escape,
the pixie I am.
Mother tells us to pose as she holds the camera up,
face smiling at us and goading my smile
even as I envy Carmen's fierce freedom.

In the sunlight of one muggy summer day, she led me to the cellar
to take some Atomic Fireballs, her candy of choice,
only to get caught and punished by Grandpa,
the only adult she respected.
Later today, she plants her feet
when she's told wash her hands at supper time,
and Mother puts Carmen in her first time-out.
Her feet are ever-bare, proud of her calluses,
while I wear my favorite cowgirl boots
to protect mine from the gravel drive.

Since I moved from California,
she has always been my wild side
and my best friend.
Often I find myself thinking back on such childhood mischief.
Carmen is now in Alabama, studying marine biology,
going as far as living on her own to get her degree.
She sometimes comes up to visit during holidays or long breaks,
but she seems to have established a new character, more distant.
Now I feel like I'm the only one left in this photograph,
wearing a demure smile.

I'll never forget the Carmen that gave birth to the wanton child in me.

I don't know why someone WOULD want to steal this, but this poem is mine, don't do it. (just for clarification)

That's very good, Hana. :rose: I enjoyed reading it.

lol I'm glad I make you smile, tho I don't know quite how I do that xp

You're very funny and witty. I enjoy reading your posts as much as I enjoy seeing your hot, sexy body! :rose:

I hope today is a great day for you!

Good luck on your test and I hope you survive your long day at classes!

I agree. Her intelligence and sense of humor is just as sexy as her body. Which only serves to make her that much more irresistable. :D

Well... ^ ^;;... I did my best, and I remembered everything (except for one name) but I don't think I got a good score. The prompt was to give nine British acts/laws/policies enforced between the French and Indian War and 1776. Give the colonists' specific reactions and why they justified those reactions.

I looked at all the little policies inside the acts and thougt I had more than enough, but the prof said it didn't work like that, I couldn't divide the acts up into policies. =(( I only ended up getting six (or seven...)
Stamp Act, then that got repealed and then the Declarative Act stating Brit could tax the colonies, then the Townshend Acts that taxed luxury goods and enstated vice-admiralty courts and moved troops over to the colonies, then some act(s) I don't know that outlawed smuggling and trade with the Floridian French (friendly, main source of rum, most sanitary drink at time) and allowed Brit officials to confescate any suspected 'smuggled' property (violating Englishman's rights of private property and privacy, led to lots of using the law for crime), then the Tea Act to buy out the EIC and only sell English tea in the colonies, putting local tea merchants out of business and monopollizing the industry (hence Boston Tea Party to boycott and protest), then meanwhile, there was the Quartering Act meaning Brit soldiers were to be housed in colonists' homes. Then when England found out about the Boston Tea Party they flip and try to intimidate the colonies (Coersion Acts/Intollerable Acts)by totally shutting down Boston Harbor, sending more troops, and closely monitoring the town meetings for any other upstart-ish behavior. =(( then we made the Declaration of Independance and that's that. I don't know what I'm missing....

>.> Totally feel in the mood for risotto.... no idea why.

I had turkey and rice leftovers for breakfast after a long night with nothing but monster in my tummy. It. was. heavenly.

Haha! That's great! lol I wonder if I need to have stuff yanked away from me. >.<

Oh, very poetic yourself. but yeah, it really is. I have the photo. I'll try to upload it so you guys can see if I accurately depicted it. (I try to paint with words too, not just brushes and fingers lol)

Ah! Right, thank you very much for speaking up! I'll be sure to refer to those and get some guidance.
That's very good, Hana. :rose: I enjoyed reading it.
lol thanks ^ ^; I try, but it's not always so successful. I'm glad you like it.

LOL well I'll just keep what I'm doing then, I suppose. I get confused too easily to try to pick at what exactly makes me charming, and I'm running off fifteen minutes of sleep, so I'll just take your word for it lol
Good luck on your test and I hope you survive your long day at classes!
Yeah, I'm gonna get picked up by mom here soon. Calling it an early day. I can get the lesson online, I just like to go to class.

lol irresistable. I do think that's the first time I've been called that. Thank you very much. I appreciate your kindness lol. :rose: :rose:
Good luck today!
TY!! I needed it lol I really do think I did the best I coulda done tho. =/ we'll see how I did tomorrow... (can't possibly get an A because it's a make-up exam. Hope I get a B, but know it's probably more like a C or... we'll just stop there >.<)

lol blade ^ ^ long time no see.. or more like "relatively long time no post here" lol ^ ^
:rose::rose:

How you doin' dear?

Wel, I am sure you did fine on the test. Sometimes things seem more dire then they truly are. It sounds like after a stressful test taking some time off is a good idea.

Hope the rest of your day is a relaxing time.

Meh....

Tired; still trying to get over being sick. Someone needs to lock my 'puter at 9 p.m.; to get me in bed at a decent hour.

I'm now part of a support group here (informal)....we kick each other whenever one of us succumbs to the urge to argue with an idiot.:)

Teknight had to save me from myselff a few nights ago; I returned the favor this morning! *silly trolls*

soooooo tired... T-T... I feel like passing out right here. Mom's gonna be another 45 minutes... I just wanna sleep...

I lied. I wanna eat rice, then sleep. Like the perfect happy ending....

Heh, if only. I have another test tomorrow, and I probably have one on friday u.u no rest for me. Then I have to write a story and edit it, then I have to understand probably ten videos and write seven programs (correctly)

Then it'll be time for finals. u.u

When were you sick? =( You didn't tell me this....

Oh! sounds like it'd be great for a lot of guys to do. ^ ^

=/ I don't like that attitude... I really feel like I know my stuff and it's really frustrating because the math doesn't add up, and I racked my brains....

I'm the same way. In my A&P classes, I'd get pissed off when I missed ANYthing. And it was always seemed to happen on questions that weren't written well, or the picture being referenced was vague. I'd always go argue my point with the instructor about it, and often got the points awarded back. :)

These aren't even finals? Sorry to hear you are over worked right now. I know what that is like.

Hiya, H! I really enjoyed your poem. Very well written!
