I was in Sydney last Februray and walked through the botannical gardens with a couple girl friends one day. We were really getting into the peace and serenity of it, when suddenly we looked up and realized the trees were filled with hundreds and hundreds of these bats. Our piercing screams shattered all the peace and serenity, but I managed to get a couple of really cools pictures.

Were those fruit bats, or some other kind of bat?

We have a range of varieties here......they were what are known as flying foxes that moved into Melbourne's gardens and have wreaked havoc in the ferngully......

you're my primary source for aussie info... at least in the sense of what i know from an actual person on the ground. i asked you earlier if you were ever tired of people asking you about your country and you said it was interesting to hear other people's perception of what australia is like. so i got to thinking... what is YOUR impression of the US?

This shouldn't be a hard question, but it is a pain in the arse to answer.
The impression I get from the tv is totally different from the one I get from the people.

does anyone know what states (in the US) are the northernmost, southernmost, easternmost and westernmost?

westernmost should be hawaii, northernmost should be alaska, southermost should be florida and easternmost, maine. however, since that seems so simple, i'll bet southermost actually goes to california thanks to the baja peninsula.

east most: alaska
west most: alaska
south most: hawaii
north most: alaska

alaska is the eastern AND westernmost state because the int'l date line runs through it. the rest is pretty much a gimme.
