Sir P. You seem to be so erudite and sophisticated. Is this really the case, or are you really a slob who sits around in his holey underwear, guzzling beer, belching, and eating Big Macs? ;)

This is the kind of post that makes me see that I shouldn't stay away from the computer when I am at my lowest. I may not have anything to offer, but a laugh can help you heal.

Just keep smiling, it may not help, but it makes everyone else wonder what the hell you have been up to. :D

Alcoholic-Wine (currently a Chilean red) or whiskey & 7-up (Canadian Club or Seagram's 7)

Non-alcoholic: depending on the time of day: coffee or ice water, but with most meals I've got to have milk.

Heading to bed now, so I'll leave a question for anyone who wants to answer & I'll catch up with you good folk tomorrow. I'm extremely tired and I know my questions are not grammatically correct, so fuck me and my ignorance tonight.

Do you think a person who has obtained a degree (i.e. college education) is "smarter" than well-read/self-taught person?

Do you find yourself giving more credence to someone who is degreed than one who is not?

I think "smart" is smart it's what you do with it that makes a difference. I'm sure there are plenty of people with degrees that have wasted what they learnt, just as there are plenty without that have made something of themselves. In short , no.

I judge people on their actions not their school/college level, I've never asked anybody whether or not they have a degree.
Admittedly I don't ask people much anyway.

Sleep well Den. :rose:

Goodnight Den. Sweet Dreams :rose:

as far as your questions:

I value education (for very obvious reasons) however, I do believe there is a difference between "learned" knowledge and common sense. Both are valuable!

My example with be Veterinarians:

I would much rather hire a veterinarian that has had practical experience versus someone whom is just "book-learned." As I mentioned, both are important but common sense and practical experience can beat book knowledge many times.

However, I do tend to place more respect to those who have gotten a degree of some type over some regular Joe on the street. (non Veterinarian example here).

There is only so much you can glean from books. At some point you have to get out in the real world and experience things and use that knowledge!

*I should take my own advice, shouldn't I?* ;)

Oh on a professional level, yeah that's a whole different kettle of fish, that would depend on the profession I think, brain surgeon, defintely a degree and them some.

Okay, Cate, I'll let the cat out of the, uh, sack.

The Sack Pack is an honorary society, membership in which is limited to male Litsters who have consumed an entire sack of White Castle burgers (that's 12 of the little buggers, btw) while simultaneously posting a truth about themselves in the "My cock is so big..." thread.

Sorry, guys, but the women around here have been torturing me over this all weekend. I just ..... couldn't take it.....any

longer. ;)

Oh Yank, I'm sorry but I must call bullshit here... well, on your account, I'll believe the other members. But you - YOU - ate an entire sack of bugers (or buggers)? I simply cannot accept that as truth!

I'm not even going to comment about "the women around here have been torturing me ... all weekend". I'll just skip off laughinggggggg.

 I hope you don't get desacked for this.

Question for all relates to guilt by association.

For instance: When I was in college, my roomate was someone that was disliked by many, many people. Her nickname was "the plague" and there was even a banner on one of the dorm floors that announced that The Plague was not permitted on that floor and that means you (name written in). Fellow students assumed that she & I were alike simply because we were roommates. We also had the same first name, so I'm sure that that did not help when trying to differentiate between the two. Guys on the dorm floor assured me that I was not the plague, but it was my roommate. It wasn't until the following semester and people started apologizing to me for leaving me out of get togethers, etc. because of her.

So my question is along that line: Do you judge people (be it fairly or unfairly) because of who they are associated with?

i do... i do so both unfairly and fairly... and accurately and inaccurately. frankly, i think everyone does this whether they're aware of it or not.

Having been on the unfair end of it, you'd think I'd withhold judgment. Not true. I do judge people by their friends & associates. I've walked away from mutual friendships due to my strong dislike of one person. No discussion about it and no regrets.

I've been on the receiving end and damn it stings. I know I've been guilty of it too. When it is a casual friendship/relationship I tend not to judge by association. If someone I love is hurt and I don't know that person well, then I sure do.

The quality of the situation matters. I try my best not to do it and when I see myself doing it now I do try to rectify my actions.

I also will lump groups of people together and dislike all or like all... as in I love nurses - so if you're a nurse I think very highly of you, even before getting to know you. Well, we all know not all of any group is good or bad but I still see myself doing that with certain behaviors/talents/education/etc.

As EJ mentioned, sometimes it's fair, sometimes not. Sometimes I'm more correct and other times I'm way off base. I just keep trying to come back to that one person as an individual.

I do and I don't.

I do in social settings. That is if someone chooses to be around a group of people that I *for whatever reason* do not particularly care for...I will tend to group those people together.

I don't in professional lives. Just because someone chose to be a Dr./lawyer/teacher/etc...doesn't make them a good (or bad) person.

Life is all about choices. If you chose to hang with people socially, there is a conscious choice made. Generally, there are things that draw people together socially and some of those things can be negative characteristics. In a career, we make a choice as to what we want to do...however, this does not generally influence personalities. *IMHO*

Oh, my. Well, I have a college degree, and I think I'm smart. :D

Seriously. There was a time, years ago, when I would have thought that people with college degrees were smarter because they had certain degrees/credentials. Of course, that was before I started teaching college students and working with people who have advanced degrees. And it was before I met my hubby, who never attended college but is pretty damn smart.

They were burgers, Cate, with an "r." And remember: when it's important, a man has to do what a man has to do. That's all I will say about eating the burgers.

As for the torture, you yourself were a participant so don't you even try to weasel your way out of that one. ;)

Gentleman, I am not ashamed to admit that I could not hold out. I simply don't have the strength or endurance to withstand such fearsome devices and strategies. They were so cruel, I can't even describe them outside the BDSM forum.
