excuse me... can someone please direct me to the people in charge? i'd like to make lit EXACTLY how i want it... for no particular reason other than i prefer to be the standard for all of civilization.

Seriously, I don't think I'd change much. I guess it's more a matter of getting rid of annoyances, and the only ones that I'd really like to change are:
1) The creepy, persistent and just disgusting Unsolicited-PMers
Yes, I can iggy, but some have been bad enough that I'd rather not have heard from them in the first place.

2) Outrageously long, distracting, packed and cheesy sig lines and wretch-worthy AVs
I wish we could just turn certain people's off without iggying, instead of seeing all or none.

3) Posts that are nearly indecipherable or just plain irritating due to many typos, piss poor grammar/spelling, no paragraph spacing, nonsensical capitalization, loud colors, etc.
This one isn't as big, but perhaps a reminder that this site is based on writing, and an integrated spellchecker or Word Autocorrect-like feature would be nice.

how does one pick nits. In fact, what is a nit?

Isn't a nit what lice is? Those tiny pesky things you can get in your hair. You can pick them with your fingers...but most people use a comb for efficiency.

A nit is a baby lice, and of course is therefore very small. Prior to shampoo-like treatments, parents used to have to comb out the nits if their children's hair was infested. It's excruciatingly painstaking work and hence the term "nitpicker" refers to someone who insists on attending to details at a level that is below rationality.

A synomym for nitpicking that I've always enjoyed is "picking fly shit out of the pepper."

My Lit would resemble EJ's in a few regards. A good bar with a solid selection of single malts, ports, and red wines would be a must and the wait staff must be capable of inspiring prurient thoughts in all customers of all persuasions.

I like the idea of being able to turn off signatures and avatars on a selective basis. I generally leave sig lines off because I'm tired of wading past strolling animated characters and pink lines of gooey adolescent poetry but I know that here among the HT regulars are some that are both witty and instructive.

I would also like to see an RSS feed to alert me to posts in certain threads as an alternative to receiving email notifications for subscribed threads.

Finally, how much would it take to make the buddy list function the way it used to? When I first joined the buddy list actually did a few things but now it's merely a list.

Hey EJ, how's the card games going? You haven't said much lately.

haven't really had anything spectacular to report... had a few great hands but nothing dissimilar from what i've already posted about. every day's a winner and i've funded two (albeit brief) vacations with poker money. gonna post pics of my bike if/when i get my hands on a digital camera too. next purchase will be a laptop i think.
