Quote of the Day

The definition of a beautiful woman is one who loves me."
-Sloan Wilson :rose:

It is said that to have a mastery of words is to have in one's possession the ability to produce order out of chaos and that command of vocabulary is a true measure of intelligence.

. . then black despair The shadow of a starless night, was thrown Over the world in which I moved alone.
Percy Bysshe Shelley

Desperatio magnum ad honeste moriendum incitamentum.

Quintus Curtius Rufus (Curtis Rufus Quintus)

Not really a quote, but this came to me (in a newsletter from my mechanic, no less), and I thought it was a great little story and reminder:

Years ago, a 10-year-old boy approached the counter of a soda shop and climbed onto the stool. "What does an ice cream sundae cost?" he asked the waitress.

"Fifty cents," she replied.

The youngster reached deep in his pockets and pulled out an assortment of change, counting it carefully as the waitress grew impatient. She had "bigger" customers to wait on.

"Well, how much would just plain ice cream be?" the boy asked.

The waitress responded with a noticeable irritation in her voice, "Thirty-five cents."

Again, the boy slowly counted his money. "May I have some plain ice cream in a dish then, please?" He gave the waitress the correct amount, and she brought the ice cream.

Later, the waitress returned to clear the boy's dish and when she picked it up, she felt a lump in her throat. There on the counter the boy had left two nickels and five pennies. She realized that he had enough money for the sundae, but sacrificed it so that he could leave her a tip.

"A relationship is like a rose, How long it lasts, no one knows. Love can erase an awful past, love can be yours, you'll see at last. To feel that love, it makes you sigh, To have it leave, you'd rather die. You hope you've found that special rose, `cause you love and care for the one you chose."

Just can't keep from playing this song lately. It is better felt when heard. It is my song of the week it seems lol.

Carlos Santana
Supernatural
Put your lights on

Hey now, all you sinners
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you lovers
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you killers
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on, you better leave your lights on
Cause there's a monster living under my bed
Whispering in my ear
There's an angel, with a hand on my head
She say I've got nothing to fear
There's a darkness deep in my soul
I still got a purpose to serve
So let your light shine, into my home
God, don't let me lose my nerve
Lose my nerve

(lots of good guitar licks right here )

Hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now
Wo oh hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now
Hey now, all you sinners
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on, you better leave your lights on
Because there's a monster living under my bed
Whispering in my ear
There's an angel, with a hand on my head
She say's I've got nothing to fear
La ill aha ill allah
We all shine like stars
We all shine like stars
Then we fade away

Before you speak, ask yourself, is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence?

Two quite different Quotes

Q: Is sex dirty?
A: Only if it's done right

- Woody Allen

All life we work
But work is a bore
If life's for living
What's living for?

Henri Nouwen:

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

To understand reality is not the same as to know about outward events. It is to perceive the essential nature of things. The best-informed man is not necessarily the wisest. Indeed there is a danger that precisely in the multiplicity of his knowledge he will lose sight of what is essential. But on the other hand, knowledge of an apparently trivial detail quite often makes it possible to see into the depth of things. And so the wise man will seek to acquire the best possible knowledge about events, but always without becoming dependent upon this knowledge. To recognize the significant in the factual is wisdom.

Lump in my throat too....which brings to another quote:

Feeling a little crazy today so...... heres one for all who might have a few problems in life. Web credits it to Gary Allen but I'm pretty sure Bruce Robison wrote it. He has written lots of good stuff that a lot of artists have recorded. Anyway just a portion of the whole song.

What would Willie Do?

You know sometimes I wonder when I ain't gettin' nowhere
What would old Willie do when it all gets too much to bear
And I can see him on his lonely old tour bus
And he's got his problems just like any of us
Well he'd just take a deep breath and then he'd let it all go
And he'd take another deep breath and let it all go
And he'd take another deep breath...and he'd hold it
Ah and I bet he'd feel hungry in a way that seems strange
Yeah hungry for all the things that he just can't change
Like the time he passed out in is own bedroom
And his wife sewed him up in the sheets and beat him with a broom and he forgave her
And you think that's rough, well then the IRS came and they took away all of his stuff
They took his golf course and his recording studio, and he just went out and did another show
So when it's all coming down on you
You better ask yourself what would Willie do

This should be posted at the top of every page.

Sex isn't an athletic contest and it isn't about satisfying an ego.

Having orgasms needn't always be the goal of sex.

While a partner brings pleasure to us, we basically are responsible for our own sexual satisfaction and should take responsibility to teach our partner various ways to pleasure us.

Elizabeth Drew:

The torment of human frustration, whatever its immediate cause, is the knowledge that the self is in prison, its vital force and "mangled mind" leaking away in lonely, wasteful self-conflict.

Ashley Montagu:

The deepest human defeat suffered by human beings is constituted by the difference between what one was capable of becoming and what one has in fact become.
