I think you should have split up atheist and agnostic into their own categories. An atheist has already made a choice where the agnostic is still on the fence. By putting these in the same group, you are almost saying all agnostics will eventually choose atheist.

Indeed, I agree, I knwo many peopel who were agnostic, who switched back over to a religious point of view. It just comes down to if "ther boat floats"

I agree with DVS as well.

I'm much more comfortable with "I don't know" than "I know it ain't true."

I agree. Agnosticism is far more common than atheism; I don't think 25% of Litsters are atheists!

Although putting "Godless heathens" on the list would have been more clear.

ya know no one is gonna wanna post anything about their religious beliefs here because its not bdsm correct on this forum to practice your religion and be who/what you are and actually be at peace with it.

That's not true in my case, hon. I'm a sadist, a Dominant, and a card carrying Christian. I make no bones or apologies about it. And I'm quite content and at peace with it. And I've even presented on Christianity and BDSM before.

I don't try to foist my beliefs on others but I enjoy discussing them in one-on-one conversations and in small groups. I enjoy learning other points of view and systems of belief, and sharing mine.

I've posted that I'm a Christian several times on this board. I haven't said anything here cause it seems to make several people uncomfortable and quite often sparks some kind of debate or the other.

I understand what you're saying about the social taboo, O'Mac. I'd also like to add this: After a really heated discussion of BDSM with some fellow congregants, it was pointed out that those who practice "this thing we do" elevate themselves to the level of (or worse yet above) Jesus. Their opinion is that to enjoy the percussive pain play involved, places us above the One who provided our salvation. The brutal punishment Jesus suffered at the hands of mortal man on His way to the cross was part of the burden He had to bear and we lowly humans ought not take pleasure in something that was part of the gift He gave - and endured - to save us.

I didn't say I agreed with them ... it's just another point of view that someone brought to my attention.

hmm..interesting way of looking at it for sure, never saw it that way, but somehow it makes sense, ya know? not enough for me to stop doing this thing we do..but still enough to make me go hmmmm

I feel very blessed. I am a spiritual person who has a religious affiliation that accepts my sexuality and my kink. My church has no problem with my bedroom or dungeon activities.

I believe my sexuality is a gift from God just like all the other attributes in my life. If I do not use these gifts I deny their importance and in effect deny God's gifts. To live a whole and abundant life, I have to integrate all of my different attributes, sexuality, intelligence, ethics, family background, spirituality, politics, etc. Otherwise I am living a partitioned life, my sexuality in one box and my politics in another and so forth. Living that kind of life is painful and counterproductive. Living a whole life means being out of the closet with both my sexuality and my kink, and being able to worship as a whole human being makes my experience with God much stronger. I know that there are lots of people in the BDSM/Leather/Fetish community who turn their backs on church and religion. To them I say, maybe you are going to the wrong church?

I regularly attend church services in my leather and club colors. Most people are not shocked, and to those leatherfolk who may see me there, I bear witness to our church's acceptance and affirmation of my life.

I spend a lot of my time doing workshops on BDSM topics and Spiritual topics. I even lead a leather circle at my church. Want to know more? Ask me.

Personally, I have little use for organized religion of any sort. The various forms of Buddhism are about as far as I could go in that regard. I dislike anyone who tries to force their believes on others. People should just worship the way they want, if someone is interested and inquires about their religion, tell them about it. There are to many different people in the world for there to be one true path. I tend to lean toward agnostic. I believe that there is a creator and a power beyond us but thats about as far as I go. I also believe that as long as someone believes in them, every god that ever existed is still around. Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" series has some great ideas on religion in that regard that made me realize exactly what it was I believed. He also put forward the idea that Hell is not a punishment from God nor is the devil spending his time trying to bring souls into his realm. It is more a punishment that people send themselves to due to feelings of guilt.

I can't help but wonder if you're Unitarian Universalist. That's the religion I was raised in, and it's equally open and welcoming. :)

Well you are partially right. I attended UU churches for a while but finallysettled on Cathedral of Hope UCC. It began as a Metropolitan Community Church and now is affilliated with the United Church of Christ. (this is the denomination with the great TV ads with the bouncer outside the church)

Our congregation is very leather friendly and since we have so many of our members who are kinky, it works out well. I do admit when a whole pew of leatherfolk show up in vests, hats, etc., we sometimes get some interesting looks, but no one has ever old us they were offended. Christmas was really nice since we had about a dozen guys in leather attend.

Don't know what to pick? Try this.

Here's an interesting web page. -- The BeliefOMatic quiz . You answer a bunch of questions about your beliefs, they match the answers against a bunch of other quiz takers of specific beliefs, and tell you how closely you match each of them. Give it a try.

My top 5:

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Secular Humanism (89%)
3. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (87%)
4. Liberal Quakers (86%)
5. Theravada Buddhism (69%)

Which is totally not a surprise to me, because I was raised Unitarian Universalist - although I'm surprised Secular Humanism wasn't 1st with UU 2nd. I guess I would consider myself more a secular humanist than anything else, with UU a close follow-up.

My top five:

1. Liberal Quakers (100%)
2. Reform Judaism (96%)
3. Neo-Pagan (92%)
4. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (90%)
5. Unitarian Universalism (87%)

Fun little quiz to take when still trying to wake up...so here's my Top 10. Better not tell F Catholic came in at number 27 with a 13% rating! Since I am Buddhist though, it seems to make sense to me in my half asleep state.
