Republicans are quite simply un-American

Which means if you live in a red or blue state, whatever you vote is meaningless. Your vote only matters in a swing state.

It is the same in the UK with our first-past-the-post system. If you are in a Conservative majority constituency, or a Labour one, whatever you vote, with a few rare exceptions, won't change anything.

Yea...there are some places so super majority partisan from to to bottom it's like that.

But the complexity behind "it depends" gets pretty deep pretty quick in most places.

Very few places are actually so solidly partisan from top to bottom for that to really be the case. And who's on your city council is a whole lot more important to your daily life than who's in the WH.

Here, here! Hopefully we won’t see anything like the last four years ever again!

I disagree.....given the fact that it's inevitable crazy will happen, I like the fact that when it does, it doesn't get to do much. Needing super majorities of both chambers of congress vs Vetos and for doing constitutional amendments.... it practically locks our government up and keeps reactionaries/radicals of any and every variety from doing anything too silly.

I'd rather have a gridlock than active radicalism. I truly believe that to be the lesser of the two evils.

I'm glad to see the system working at keeping crazy of every brand from doing a whole lot.

Tuesday can’t come fast enough.

Yea....same way getting a tooth pulled can't come fast enough LOL

Other than that the "at least it's over for now" relief we'll get for a couple months before the 2022/24 campaigns kick off in January it doesn't make much difference to me.

Trumpists whose party controls the White House, the Senate, and the Court, are practicing civil disobedience days before a national election.

Right now Trump is rejecting American democracy and demanding that the states stop counting the votes. He wants to chuck democracy and just be declared the winner while millions of votes haven't even been counted yet.

This is about as un-American as it gets.

He is trash. I want him to lose just to see his humiliation. Sick of his ugly face.

I also hate that many of these uneducated people vote against their best interests. Don't they know Dems are better for them than these Repugs? Stupid, evil, or both?

Come on, Biden, get to 270 this morning!

^^^ has rejected American democracy for 4 years, will continue to reject it until it goes her way.

Currently Biden is ahead of Trump with 238 electoral votes to Trump’s 213. Neither candidate has the 270 needed to win just yet. Biden could still be our next president.

Donald Trump tells us that the United States Constitution is a “really bad thing” and expresses frustration that the Separation of Powers keeps him from acting like a dictator.

Shortly after the election of 2016, Trump attacked leaders from America’s Free Press and berated and bullied media big shots during an off-the-record Trump Tower meeting.

In America, the media has the freedom to investigate America’s political leaders and political candidates. They have the freedom to report on their findings. The United States Constitution specifically states that the freedom of the press shall not be abridged.

Donald Trump seems to think that he’s living in a dictatorship and that he can tell the television networks, newspapers and cable outlets what stories off-limits and what photos they are prohibited from publishing. He attacks news anchors and network chiefs for covering the “wrong” stories.

Trump has gone so far as to declare war on America’s Free Press and incite violence towards investigative reporters. And he has also taken an outraged and hostile attitude towards the First Amendment.

With an openly hostile attitude towards the Constitution of the United States, Trump has threatened to eliminate the First Amendment protections the Supreme Court has built into our nation’s libel laws – and has suggested that he will soon start revoking the FCC licenses of media outlets that he doesn’t like.

And yet despite the fact that Trump hates American values, he wraps himself up in the American flag and tries to claim that nobody is more patriotic than him.

126 Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have so much contempt for American democracy that they signed onto an amicus brief, supporting a ludicrous lawsuit asking the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out the votes in four states in which Biden won in an effort to ignore the will of millions of American voters and to just hand the election to Trump, weeks after Trump lost.

This lawsuit was childish and frivolous, nevertheless it was an attempt to piss all over the Constitution of the United States and the system of government that those 126 Republicans swore an oath to uphold.

Congressman Bill Pascrell makes the case that those 126 Republicans are guilty of sedition and makes a compelling case that those Republicans who signed on to the Covenant of Sedition should not be seated when the new Congress opens in January.

“Stated simply, men and women who would act to tear the United States government apart cannot serve as Members of the Congress. These lawsuits seeking to obliterate public confidence in our democratic system by invalidating the clear results of the 2020 presidential election undoubtedly attack the text and spirit of the Constitution, which each Member swears to support and defend,” Pascrell wrote.

“Consequently, I call on you to exercise the power of your offices to evaluate steps you can take to address these constitutional violations this Congress and, if possible, refuse to seat in the 117th Congress any Members-elect seeking to make Donald Trump an unelected dictator,” Pascrell explained.

He makes a compelling case. Attempting to throw out millions of legal votes and installing Trump as an unelected dictator is un-American and clearly in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Will these 126 Republicans lose their congressional seats as a result of their sedition?

I for one, am eager to see how this plays out.

Democrat wants to use Civil War law about traitors to ban 126 Republicans from being seated in Congress

Rep. Pascrell believes Section 3 of the 14th Amendment should be invoked to keep the Republicans from holding office.

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof,” the 14th Amendment reads.

Pascrell offered his analysis as why such a move is necessary.

We shall see if Nancy (and or Kamala) will actually invoke the 14th Amendment prohibition. I look forward to seeing if Nancy will act or just whimper.

This is about as un-American as it gets.

I try to refrain from using the term un-American. I mean, what does that mean? What did it mean to Joseph McCarthy? What did it mean to Bull Connor? What did it mean to Dick Nixon and Spiro Agnew?

One time the Grateful Dead was picketed as being un-American. Band leader Jerry Garcia responded by saying that they were as American as "apple pie and lynch mobs".

We work toward change in the definition of this term American through the ballot box. Republicans lately have become the anti-democracy party, preferring instead to take power by trying to nullify the election results in four states. Their fascist movement is firmly entrenched in our society now.

Having now failed in the courts to have Trump succeed in a hostile takeover of the nation, their only option left is through violent acts of intimidation or revolution. If that happens, their political party will be dead forever.

Most of the wimpy Republicans who supported Trump's ridiculous claim before the Supreme Court are probably silently praying that their nutcases don't cross that line.

I tend to agree with this. Thing is though, these Republicans are very much laying bare the fact that they care more about their own wealth and power that the good of the country or our democracy as a whole. Their priorities have been on clear display over the last 4 years, at the very least, and they have made it increasingly clear that they are willing to use any means necessary to consolidate their power. Moral, ethical, legal, and constitutional concerns clearly don’t limit these efforts. These are assaults on our democracy and the American public at large. That fits my definition of un-American, and I do not use such terms lightly. It is important to recognize that not all Republicans (or Republican voters) are supportive of these attacks, though few of them have had the balls to actively defend our basic democratic principles.

Lets see what tune you play in four years

Yep, very Cogent points... something to watch out for. Jan20 can't get here fast enough.

Right...not all Republicans are in support of such irrational behavior....it's time to reach out to them.

Kasich said in an interview last week. I didn't leave the Republican Party...it left me. He wouldn't even say he was a Republican anymore. I do not think there are any Republicans left to reach out to.

Regrettably, I don't think what they did rises to that standard. Since they didn't actually take up arms against the country, the question is whether they "gave aid and comfort" to those who did. By my reading they didn't quite do that either, they just suggested secession.

I would love to witness that political farce. By 2024, their might not be a Democrat left in the House, and by 2026, not a Democrat left in the Senate.

That would be great!

:)

But will you have learned the difference between "there" and "their" by 2024?

Will you have learned the difference between fantasy and reality, Spy Pilot? Fact vs Fiction? Lies vs the truth?

:D
