This is exactly along the lines I was thinking, Cutie. I was thinking that it's no easier than explaining why I prefer the ocean to the mountains, or why I love lightning storms. For me, it's not about what I necessarily 'like', it's what I NEED. I don't have balance in my life without a power exchange. But for me, it's also not just about sex, but about life. It's who I am, much the same way that I am calm, organized, smart, and outgoing. Variety is the spice indeed, but my point was really semantic.

A comment was made earlier on the thread about the "primal nature of the dominant male animal taking what he's earned". This analogy doesn't really make sense to me, because I don't earn the right to fuck the female by decking another male standing next to me in the bedroom.

Of course, the wild and unrestrained nature of rough sex can feel like dramatic conquest, as well as a celebration of raw, physical power. All very, very hot for me.

But the power I exert over a partner's free will is what I am referring to when I speak of "dominance" in a personal relationship. In contrast, rough sex is just brute force.
