Runners unite?

This thread's been very quiet. :(

I took advantage of the lovely weather in the south of the UK today and ran a practice half marathon, notching up a few PBs for myself along some of the sections of the route. :)

Any other tales of satisfaction or woe?
.

Working into the triathlon realm. Can't seem to get my pool swim speed to translate to open water. :/

But I do love race season. Some much motivation out there

I've got into the habit this spring of asking early (before 7) and doing a slow 6 km roughly every other day.

Suits me even if at that time there are few fellow runners out and about.

I did 8 miles today as I try to get back to half-marathon shape. I run with a group at least once a week and have a big-time crush on one of my running buddies.

I just finished my first 10k and am training for a half.. I had no idea this gem of a thread existed, but I'm delighted to have found it.

Most of the time I'm running I'm playing around with something in my head a bit naughty.. so it feels remarkably appropriate to say 'hi' here.

I agree with this last point. There definitely is a connection between running and naughty thoughts. Maybe it is all the sweat, heavy breathing and lycra.

I'm back to running today. It's been an off and on thing for the past couple of years. Two years ago I was in the best shape of my life and was running more than ever--but never have participated in an organized run. I would like to run at least a 5K by the end of this year and a 10K in 2017.

Im new here and very glad to find this thread. I love to run, and love sex (I know, who doesn't? P. Love to read the stories on here, and look forward to writing a few of my own.

PMs welcome.

Oh, I'm male, looking for a woman.
Ciao!

Yes, I run!

I've been running for about five years. I've done several five Ks, four halves and a full. Not training for anything right now, Just getting in 10 to 12 miles a week. I've gotten up as early as 4am to run while training. Run in heat, snow, ice and a Tropical Storm. Love morning runs but will run anytime. Lately, can't seem to roll out of bed early for anything.

Happy trails, runners!

Ha! Yes, definitely heavy breathing and Lycra... and lots of time for my mind to wander. I'm normally out running late at night, and need a bit of a release, too. At least it helps keep my runs fun ;)

Planning on a longer run tonight if the rain clears...

Always good scenery on runs. Also people so positive in races and events. Like a parade with yoga pants

To my fellow runners!! How does everyone avoid blisters on runs?!? I've never had an issue. But I just finished another half marathon and had some really bad blisters and a giant blood blister! I wear fitted Features (same brand I've worn for years and my shoes aren't new new- they still have a few miles left in them) Any suggestions or tricks would be helpful!! Danke! :D

There is a route I sometimes do that goes along a river, out of town and across this meadow before looping back onto the streets.

Obviously I do that route because it is beautiful, especially this time of year with the fresh greenness of the trees and flowers and such like. However, I have to confess that every time I pass through the field my mind thing, 'now, this would be a good place for a bit of outdoor nookie'.

Blisters

Blisters usually come from rubbing so did you change socks perhaps? Also I tend to use the non cushioned nylon socks and make sure my shoes are snug on my feet. I have had blisters with the thick sock (also lost a toe nail) on trail runs due to the steep downhills.

No, I wore the same type, brand and material. I usually lose a toenail on each foot but I didn't this race. It was just weird cause I certainly didn't feel my foot sliding around in my shoe. I even lace up pretty tight. Other weird thing is, is it only happened on the one foot.

where were the blisters? and what was the course like?

Ball of my left foot all the way up between my first two toes. The blood blister was on the outside and bottom of my foot. It was one giant blister. It just totally shocked me. In all the races I've done, I've never had an issue. The course was all concrete and fairly flat. There was a little downhill but it was minimal. I walk the downhill due to an old knee injury. I also train on the concrete so that my body is conditioned. The race was 5-7 and my feet are still healing. I just want to make sure this never happens again. It's quite the buzz kill.

I'd like to know the answer too, as I've started to have very similar problems with my right foot. :(

Over the years, I've completed several half marathons and other races using the same model and size of running shoes (different actual shoes!) and "twin skin" running socks without any problems -- until the last nine months. Now, on moderate to long runs (10-26 miles), I'm repeatedly developing a blister on the arch of my right foot (under the inside, approaching the ball) and blood blisters on both sides of my second toe, where the nail has also blackened, hardened and appears to have stopped growing.

There's no obvious evidence of friction inside the shoe or against the socks. I wonder whether it's possible to develop a weakness for blisters in certain areas or, more worryingly, if the arch of my right foot might be collapsing. I run in Asics shoes (GT-2000) which include some arch support and have always felt comfortable for long runs in previous years.

Any ideas welcomed! :)

Just ran the Brooklyn half in 1:24 which made me very happy. I love running, talking about running and find women runners with their lithe bodies, deeply attractive and arousing. Please feel free to reach out.

Ain't getting old fun? You might try a little powder before socking, or possibly taping the area. I remember when younger, I taped all my blister-prone areas before a run. I'm just the opposite now, I haven't had an issue in a long, long time. I usually run in Asics, but switched to Brooks this year, and my feet didn't go numb during the Mini this year. Go figure. Endeavor to perservere.

Hello you fantastic runners!

Does trail running count? I'm about to hit the trails and I want to run them with my dog. Just got these trail running shoes, and they feel great!

Other than running, I walk and hike a ton, like 2 or more hours a day most days.

You get half credit, but bonus points for taking your dog, so that brings up you all the way up to full runner status. :D

Sometimes before running long races, which I haven't done in many years, I apply vaseline to any place that rubs like to the bottom of my feet, toes, and between my legs. When I played soccer, I routinely got blisters on my toes. I have used various things that helped me such as cutting a piece of moleskin padding and putting them on the "hot" spots of my feet or around my toes. I have even use a simple band-aid or even wrapped my toes with sports tape.

Other than that, you could try different shoe brands or swap out your shoe inserts with new ones to see if that is the problem.

Yea I don't know what to say on the blisters. I have lost toenails on trail runs and gotten blisters in boots on hikes, and mostly from roller skates, rollerblades or ice skates, but never running. In all of those times the issue has primarily been bad fitting gear. Switched shoes or socks and over did it.

I'm not surprised! That's a great time for a half marathon, at any age. :)

No -- getting older sucks! Thanks for the suggestions, though. I'll go and find some tape, and perhaps some powder (presumably talcum powder as opposed to, say, baking powder or gunpowder ;)). I'm also due to replace my running shoes soon, so I'll take a look at some alternatives to the Asics ones -- and perhaps get a fresh gait assessment in case anything had changed since last time.

Other than that, you could try different shoe brands or swap out your shoe inserts with new ones to see if that is the problem.
The second one's easy for me to try! I have other pairs of running shoes that have worn out, but which still have servicable inserts. I'll identify a spare insert that looks in good shape and try it in the right shoe to see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
