Runners unite?

Lady C pulled me out of bed at 0545 this morning. A quick breakfast and the 15 km in some very nice woodland along the creek.
We had to go early, because it gets too hot and humid later in the day.

Apart from deer flies (or horse flies?) and the fact that C Junior was jumping along 50 meters in front of us all the way wearing a happy "shouldn't you oldtimers get moving"-face, it was enjoyable.

Half-marathon next week and full marathon some time in September.

Gonna do at least 3 miles today...if I feel good up to 6 miles..

Feels good to sweat :)

Kudos to all the runners out there!

Hello you fantastic runners!

Does trail running count? I'm about to hit the trails and I want to run them with my dog. Just got these trail running shoes, and they feel great!

Other than running, I walk and hike a ton, like 2 or more hours a day most days.

Absolutely, trail running counts! Great job staying active!

I ran a practice half marathon yesterday. Surprisingly, my time was comparable with my race efforts. I was fine throughout my running, but I had a nasty bout of lightheadedness, nausea and faintness a few minutes after finishing. That's never happened before.
.

No running for me indefinitely. Sidelined with surgery and recovery. Let's hope I can start back up before the end of the year! :(

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. ;)
I'm on the way to the gym in a bit. The treadmill and I have a afternoon date. I despise the rat badtard, but it's way to hot to run outside. We have a mutual love/hate for each other.

Thank you for the well wishes! :rose:

Sorry to hear that! All the best for a steady recuperation and an return to running in due course.

I hate treadmills! I find it very uncomfortable to run on one for more than a few minutes. Perhaps my posture on it is wrong, or maybe I just get bored easily.

too hot to run outside here as well... use treadmill for interval training to bring my per mile times down.

Was that the half marathon in Atlanta? Did it live up to its "hot" billing? :D
.

Yup.
Nice warm weather (I am reasonably certain that there were no cases of frostbite).

It started at 7 in the morning. Probably both to annoy the traffic of Atlanta as little as possibel and to start in a reasonably low temperature (25° C). It got warmer, but there was a light cloud cover, and I think that helped immensely.

"Heat, hills and humidity" is not a bad description, but there was water for every mile and a great setup.

I had expected the first aid stations to be busy, but they actually looked a bit bored.

After that we picked up the kids, had a bath and a nice breakfast at the hotel, and went down to see "coca cola world" (pure advertising but interesting in a perverted consumeristic way none the less) and the civil rights center (everybody ought to go there once).
There were still runners finishing when we came back.
:D

I hate those "hamster wheels"!

Lady C and I will rather get up really early to run.

Running while the sun rises is fantastic!

I did 10km yesterday morning, a lovely loop including a long stretch out of town along the river.

Only trouble about running early in the morning is that there are less female joggers to ogle. Not that I do, of course, but I can imagine that one might.

I prefer to run outside but find Treadmills are useful in training. When i run outside i hit my usual pace and maintain it. I typically have to use my tools (garmin, strava) to check my pace. If i am trying to increase tempo i have to constantly look and modify. This takes away the Zen aspect of running i enjoy and makes it work.

On a treadmill i simply set it and off I go. Plus i can do a set increase in incline to train hills, i dont have to drive to a course to find them and go up and down. I always train distance outside but when i am trying to increase tempo i use treadmill to reset my "normal" pace. Maybe im lazy but when i run I want my mind to wander not be constantly checking and changing.

I'm glad! I gather that frostbite is a regular hazard in Georgia. ;)

I have a favourite regular route for long runs that takes me alongside a river for most of its length (twenty miles if I do the whole there-and-back loop). The only downside is that it takes me three miles of running through town to reach the river (and then the same on the way back).

Only trouble about running early in the morning is that there are less female joggers to ogle. Not that I do, of course, but I can imagine that one might.
I've found that the serious female runners tend to go out early in the mornings. :)

That's an interesting alternative perspective for me. Like you, I hate having to run hard on an outdoor route that I enjoy. Perhaps I could associate pain and suffering with indoor treadmill work instead. ;)

I don't know if it was the 'serious' female runners I was thinking about...

Had a really nice run with Lady C and youngest kid today.

We had decided on 15 kilometers, and Lady C had planned a route, insisting that it was just right.
15 k is also the most the kid had done so far.

She had made a minor miscalculation, and refused my objections about the expected length.
It ended up being a tad more than 20!

The Kid did it with style, but was a bit tired afterwards.

...... Had I attempted 20 k at 13, it would have killed me!

Not all kids today are spineless weaklings.
:)

Definitely not! I'm regularly amazed by the number of young kids who turn up for our local 5km parkrun. The organisers have even started a separate junior parkrun (2km) for 4-14 year olds, which is also keenly attended. It's good to see that so many people of all ages (in the UK, at least) are finding social running to be fun as well as healthy. :)

Ran 10 miles with my wife today. The humidity made it feel like much more than that!

At the end, we circled the Cutty Sark in Greenwich (19th Century British Clipper ship, which should be familiar to viewers of the London Marathon) and then went to a nearby café to share a large pot of tea. :D

Hi all!

Just been pointed here by MindFondler from another thread!

I started running just over two years ago and after a few 10k races (PB of 51:00!), I managed to finish a half marathon back in May!

Well done! I'm a couple of years ahead of you but I've been on a similar trajectory to you. :)

I've found that running with others (for example, in a running club) is a good way to maintain motivation and enjoyment.

I run with Lady C, our speeds match nicely.

These last months youngest kid has been running with us. He happily followed us (or rather ran ahead of us) on an 18 km trip this Saturday.
