This was the Black Widow spider that lived outside our garage last summer. My son named her Fifi.

Yikes.. I'm glad there's no black widows where I live.. I'd freak out. I got bad arachnophobia.

Here's a few pix:

Awww.. Kitty's so cute.

Here's my addition for the week.. Bloody school's been taking up my picture time. :(

Couldn't resist taking a picture of this lovely creature. It kept following me, so I took it as a hint that it wanted to be a model for my pictures.

I was told that, in the pacific north west, there are no poisonous snakes or spiders. Still, I'm not overly scared of spiders. I can sympathize with those who are, though.

It's a Freesia! They smell heavenly.

There are two, and they're just wonderful.

Sheesh! Thanks for the great shots!

Desert Lanterns

I participated in a performance that took place in the Mojave desert. Some of the organizers created a beautiful stage area with a VJ projecting against the rocks, and some glowing lanterns.

And here's a shot I took of a performance of a rather famous guitarist performing some experimental music at a local store.

The thing he's using is called a Thingamagoop. (I swear!)

You get a prize if you can figure out the guitarist.

STC, hang in there. I know you're facing some real challenges right now, but I know you and your community will come together and discover a new strength to see you through these tough days.

Wow! What a beautiful creature!

Those jets are amazingly loud! Did you get any sonic booms?

When your down, you get kicked harder, and you try to get back up, and sometimes you can't. I understand why suicide is the best option, i understand when all hope is gone, i understand what it feels to be empty inside. I cry nightly, i feel so hopeless. I toss my energy to things to try to control my mind. I need the escape, i need the control, i am nothing more then a fool i know. Never forgetting the pain i have had, never changing the way i am, help isn't really helping, its just slowing the process down. I don't understand the pain i have found, i don't know the proper things to do, i don't want to live, but i don't really want to die too. One will win, i don't yet know which, but i hope the choice is coming pretty damn quick. I am lost and i am confuzzled, i don't want peace, i don't want to move on, i just wallow in my misery, the same ol song. I watch time as it slowly slips on, second by second, all day long, waiting till exhaustion takes me to sleep, waiting for death to come take me, someone killing me, would not be bad, it might be the best thoughts i every had. I have thought of death as my friend, from the beginning till the end. If i had the choice i would let the reaper take my life. My soul has been killed under the weight i don't think i can bare. I don't understand my rage, i don't really care, i wish i could get rid of every part of me, start over, but that isn't to be, i am stuck with what i have, no matter if its good or bad. my choices i made are all my own, nobody to blame, nobody to hold. wake up at night crying from a dream, of someone i could have been if i had only seen, it kills me to be like this, relying on someone elses bliss, to feel the pain of my life and see others happy, that may yet be the death of me. i live and die every time i think, no mater how i try to not think. Help i have tried to get, but remember is making it harder to forget, never have i felt this helpless and that is saying alot, i have been down before, but always gave life a shot, i try to be brave, i try to be ok, i am not sure i can lie anymore, i think i am done with the game i play. I don't like who i am, and i like most others less, fake people suck worse then the rest. I am just floating through a nightmare, paying homage to a different time a different year, today is already a waste, tomorrow may come, but what difference does it make. Never one to be controlled, never been one to ever be let free, i hold myself back and i know i do it to me, nobody to blame for my inner daemons, nobody to blame for my hate, my rage is building hard, and when i snap others need to be afraid, i am not going to be the way anyone wants me to be, i am just a fucker with out a gun, i hold some sanity someplace in the back of my mind, i don't really want to go postal, but you never know. It feel like my emptiness will never be filled, so what am i doing living in this world.

*i wasn't going to post this, but i think i need to*

I know you're going through a tough time, STC.

Here's one for you to ponder:

A crustacian with a borrowed shell decorates it with seaweed and sand, coral flakes and scales from passing fish. He takes pride in his work, building a miniature masterpiece of seductive splendor. Each season he grows, his small body becoming cramped inside his mobile home, and so must abandon his efforts and start anew. He does this without regret, knowing that the work goes on, and new inspiration is always around the next turn. He does not yearn for old shells that no longer fit. He sits inside, trusting that the next perfect pebble is just a step away. Like this little fellow, we too must grow and, in doing so, let go of the past, no matter how cherished it may be. We are able to start anew, from whereever we are, and can choose to cherish life in all its aspects, without judgment or sadness. What is the song you sing? What is the story you tell? What light do you bring to brighten this world, when all around is darkness? In each of us, in you and I, we have a strength to see ourselves through the worst because we thirst for hope.

If you can't help yourself, help somebody else.

I don't know if I'd call these pix 'art' but I had fun taking them, and they look cool...

Cool thread

I'll pop my lit cherry.

Spider in my garage last summer and a mantis in my backyard. All taken with a macro lens, full sun believe it or not.

Great pictures all!

Welcome to Lit, KTM! I am humbled and honored that you chose our humble thread for your first post.

Your shots are breath-taking.

I've never seen a spider like that before. If you don't mind my asking, what part of the world do you live in? Do you know what kind of spider it is?

attachment.php

The mantis is beautiful, too.

Is there some sort of back-story, where the mantis and spider are friends that occasionally go on adventures together?

Just curious.

What else have you found in your back yard?

BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of macro photography.

Peace!

Thanks!

Thank you for the kind compliment, but I've never really thought of them that way! Just a side hobby.

That is a sub-species of a jewel spider. They come in all shapes and sizes; I've attached another that was a short-term resident in my garden (though not a very good photo).

The mantis is beautiful, too.

The mantis was an interesting subject. I have many photos of him and he was almost performing for me, even with a lens less than two or three inches away.

I live in Atlanta.

Thanks again for the kind words.....

Well, that's ok. There's nothing wrong with being a hobby artist, but your work doesn't have the 'hobby' feel to it.

They're some crazy looking spiders! I've not seen anything quite like them around here. We have more ordinary spiders here. I love them, though, and am always thrilled to take good shots of them when I can.

That mantis was a complete flirt! Amazing shots!!!

I live in Atlanta.

I've never been to any part of the South. I must go sometime, if only to see the exotic creatures.

Thanks again for the kind words.....

Thanks for sharing these great shots!

We used to have a feeder, but it got all nasty after a while. We should get a new one.

Thank you Ff

Here's a macro hellebore, one of my favorite seasonal flowers...and the spent bloom of a coneflower.

I've enjoyed your landscape photos upthread.

I am a bit obsessed by macro photos of flowers. I've taken many, but this one is gorgeous!

This second one is also great:

The 'spent' quality of the flower is quite evident!
