Snippetsville: General Discussion

contest prize

I'm doing this because I saw a need and decided to fill a gap. I think the majority of us are working hard for the SG and any rewards should be shared equally.
Sweets and Alex:
Yes, 'some' of us are working hard for Snipps, but no one will ever catch up to the work you and Alex did getting it going (all those PMs, the maps, the threads, etc.) I don't want this to be an argument, I merely think you two deserve the first prize if won. Then after later contests we can discuss divying up any loose change.

That's only my opinion, and Vas's. I'm presuming Gauche was being gauche but then he's also krassniye (which I'd presume means he'd dole the rubles out to the homeless of Snippettsville  ).

I'm with Perdita and Vas on this one ... the reward for me is seeing the stories posted and reading them, knowing all the work that went on behind the scenes. I'd just blow the money on beer anyway.

Snippetsville is a great exercise, I brought it up at a weekly writer's group I attend and they were all enthused about the idea ... of course I didn't mention that it was a (gasp) erotica site.

By the way, super photos, Perdita very vibrant. I wonder about including the fortuneteller's one with the phone number though ... I don't know if there are ramifications with that sort of thing. In any case, please post more.

Thanks, Zack. All the photos are from my immediate neighborhood so I suppose one can easily find the area code, but then for those who will the read posted Snipps who knows what area code a dodo would guess at. I do have more but I want to hear if it's worth posting them, from others I mean.

Perdita

p.s. Everyone I tell about Snipps thinks it's a great idea and project. A friend who is a renowned academic (18th c. is her area, and when she attends MLA meetings 'everyone' knows her) thinks Snipps is wonderful and loves my and Gauche's stories; she has to be selective in her readings, haha. So, yea us!

Wow. Snippettsville known by someone in those kind of circles.
We're not worthy...
Speak for yourself, buster! I know how hard we're working!

Perdita - great pics. I'd like to use some of them as either 'footers' or 'middlers' for the 'Tales'. I like the abstract effect of selective imagery. I don't like to use the 'Palm Reader' pic unless someone can doctor the 'phone number. Maybe take a leaf out of US cinema and make it a '555' code!

Alex

Alejandro, thanks, you are welcome to use any. I have more that might fit Snipps too, and a lake to photograph (just 3 blocks up my street; for Pierce who knows SF it's Mountain Lake at 11th and Lake St.) Will post soon.

If anyone wants to doctor the phone no. I can send them the jpg file, it'd be cool to have a Palm Reader in town, e.g., plot bunnies.

Ah yes, gueess they got that pesky alligator out of there by now.
Pierce, that made me feel so connected to you. Yeah, it was funny. Do you recall that a real alligator hunter from Australia finally got it? Last I heard it had a home at the SF zoo.

Remember the two swans? One went missing and of course the rumors centered around homeless Asians who might have eaten it!

I love my neighborhood, but my dream home would be an apt. or flat overlooking the park and lake. Very expensive dream.

I like the children's play area too which is always surrounded by old Russki men playing chess and the babushkas chatting while the kids play.

Think I'll go take my pics now.

cheers, Perdita

That placid little playground is where the Zodiac killer hid out after killing a Yellow Cab Driver at the corner of Cherry & Washington.
Well, uh, thank you very much, dear. It's a little scary too that you recall those details. ;)

Must take my photos before dark.

Perdita

p.s. 'twould take a lot to break the connection. :)

Hi all, my apologies for my lack of postings recently.

I've been busy with editing work and with getting Issues sorted for the SG. I'm on Issue 10 as I post this. I have a couple of stories that I need to run checks on through the Character database, which will explain why I've bumped it up in the SDC again. (I'm unsure which order they should go in just off my head, so need to check).

Remember, time is almost up on the Masquerade Ball stories - closing date 31 October.

Nice to see some Christmas stories coming in now. Excellently easy to find them with the note 'Christmas Story' inside too, thanks so much for doing that! :) - closing date 30 November. I need one story from every author please. Looks like I'm going to have to send out another SG PM to everyone.

Perdita I've seen your photos! :) I like them. :) I'm thinking along these lines:

1. Yes. The arch and blue door.

2. No. I think we should not have the phone number of a real place in our fiction stories. Yes, only if the number is deleted or changed.

3. Yes. Perhaps there is a section of Snip where the houses are indeed all bright colours. The alarm itself has me wondering. Just thinking of the ambience, would houses in Snip be alarmed?

4. No. Door and Latch. I think this is just a little too abstract for a website story reader to realise what it is, though I'm open to discussion on that.

5. Yes. The red, white and blue certainly brings us up to date with America. I love the reflections of the houses across the street in the glass.

6. Yes. I love the colours.

7. Unsure - leaning towards No. I can't see this in Snip unless it is an area on the other side of the tracks so to speak.

NB: My knowledge on what kind of architecture and building materials that would be used in a town like Snippettsville is zilch. I have no idea. Does the plumbing that shows up in some of these photos fit with the kind of plumbing in Snip and will it hold up to the kinds of weather Snip has? Are house buildings in country areas likely to be on different levels?

Are there any bridges around that you could take photos of? We could do with a bridge or two.

LOL. Sweets, do you remember where I live? Ever hear of the Golden Gate Bridge? the Bay Bridge? Can't think of anything smaller near me.

I'll post more photos soon, took some of the lake down the street. I leave it to others to decide what to use or not, do not at all mind rejection here.
-----------
Pierce: I do not recall it but was it Phil Bronson? He also went into that cage at the zoo and got bit (can't recall the animal). FYI to others, the ex-Mr. Sharon Stone and editor of the SF Examiner.

cheers, Perdita

Hey, Pierce, never heard of that house. Here's a pic of mine. It's definitely not Snipps style, just fyi. Above the middle arch the middle bay window is my bedroom (where I am at the moment). To the left is my living room bay window (though the bay is not outside), to the right noisy Russki neighbors. I took this near twilight tonight on my way to Mtn. Lake.

'night, Perdita

edit: deleted pic per Sweets' warning.
